  1. Hi, is this thread still active. I started a Precident Stampe kit in 1981 (ish) bought from a shop in south London. It did not survive the move to New York when about 1/3 built. Last week, overcome with nostalgia, I bought a SLEC Stampe from Sussex Model Center. Maybe this was not the most logical step. However, buoyed up by this thread here I go.
  2. Litho arrived today "as described" as the e-Bayers say. No complaints, the vendor says he will have some more in by next week. I am not an expert on litho but it looks all right to me. On with the motley.
  3. I have just started building a 1/4 scale Bristol Fighter from the Gary Sunderland plan so I think I may need more in the future.
  4. Posted by Matt Jones on 22/05/2014 12:56:25: Cheers Ioan, ordered some. It show 5 bought in the last hour so I think you've helped a few people Hi Matt I am glad that I ordered some before I posted the link He seems to have sold out. That listing has been there for quite a while. Ioan
  5. David We have had this discussion before. The planet is 25,000 miles around and bright blue and green. How can you not see it?? Is it that hard to miss?? Ioan
  6. Hi all Here is an e-bay item number for litho. It is in the form of A4 size sheets and the listing is for 10 sheets. I have today ordered a set and will report back when it arrives. 331207962485 Copy the above number and post it in the e-Bay search box and that will take you to the listing. Regards Ioan
  7. I have had a new carpet for my workshop (spare bedroom). This meant taking everything out, painting the walls and woodwork, laying the new fitted catpet, adding new shelvs and fitted worksurface. Then a week before Christmas I got that flu bug and was laid up for several days (still not completely over it) and have just finished the room off today. Now for a 1/4 scale Brisfit and a Jerry Bates oversize Astro Hog. Happy Christmas and New Year everyone. BG
  8. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 01/07/2012 18:33:09: FCC is the US authority - a Yankee CE. The FCC is the Federal Communications Commission, they regulate the airwaves in the USA. Their "CE" is the UL, Underwriters Laboratories. They test stuff and issue compliance notices, just like the "CE" compliance. I will admit to being a committed FrSky fan, and have checked their right to claim CE compliance. They are genuine; use with confidence. BG
  9. I like cheap as much, or more, than the next bloke, and I know the problems that come with the LMS, I used to own one. However... SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MODEL SHOP!!! One day they will all be gone and then you will have no choice but to buy from HK. At least your LMS is reachable on the phone, or you can "pop" over and grumble. BG
  10. Hi Mark The thing with Church StrettonR/C Model Club is we are closer than you think, Ludlow is a mere 40mins away. Also our fees are VERY reasonable. Is the Welshpool club a bit closer, although across country on unpaved roads?? Shropshire Model Flying club wa full at last time of asking, but talk to Kit, their secretary, you never know. PM me for details of Stretton. BG Edited By Biggestgerbil on 16/06/2012 23:33:41
  11. I refer to my earlier post, READ THE HANDBOOK!! Also available on line are the test standards, they are not a Masonic secret and are there for anyone to down-load. There is no mention of a different test for turbine power. Gary; your examiner sounds like a complete idiot, show him the handbook and ask him where the "A" test differs for turbines. I have seen one ot two guys become national socialists as soon as they pass their examiners test... BG Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 15/06/2012 11:01:29
  12. Hi Gary It's all down to the indvidual club, committee and members. I beong to three clubs; two do not allow turbines for various reasons and one has no problem. As for "A" or "B" etc, most clubs want at least an "A" for safe solo although there is no BMFA requirement to hold any rating. I would imaging, but aren't certain, that most turbine models would be over 7kg anyway. Read your BMFA manual for fine detail. The LAW says the pilot must be reasonably certain the flight can safely be made, yes the CAA recognise ALL aircraft regardless of size and weight. So your Mpx Fox is subject to much the same rules as a fully loaded Jumbo Jet. BG
  13. I am in awe of the network/jointer guys working on live cables in a hole in the ground in the pouring rain... Ben has a good arguement, folks like me who flaunt all regs to get power to the workshop. The farmer, who owns the yard where I have my workshop, had a problem with his supply. It kept tripping his ELCB, but only when he used his 3 phase MIG welder. Sent the welder off to be serviced and, if required, fixed. The MIG folks fitted a new cable and one or two other things and sent the welder back, with a largish bill. Plugged it in and same problem. Then we noticed that the bench grinder lead was smoking when we used the MIG on the (steel) workbench. Unplugging the bench grinder cured all the symptoms. But not, of course, the problem. 14. Tony I have never had a problem. This does not mean that you will not have a problem. Mostly, I only ever fuel proof around the engine bay and associated parts. I went through a phase of using house paint (Dulux Trade, the runny stuff) but this is not particularly glow proof although it is OK with diesels. Funnily enough, I think that it is the oil that does the damage. When I used castor based fuel I had much less proofing trouble than the synthetic I now use. Mmm, I may start a thread. BG
  15. Mike In all fairness, I have all due respect for skilled tradesman. I really do see the need for gas and electricity regs, both are dangerous. I am (was) an auto electrician and know what havoc can be wreaked by 12v. I get the feeling that Ken is going to DIY it whatever is said on this thread. We all want him to be safe and not get hurt. Many years ago, as a favour to a friend, I went to move his fathers piano. It had a heater inside it to keep the temprature constant. He said that he had unplugged the heater and the extension needed pulling out of the piano. So muggins here put his hand into the piano to retrive the extension. Next thing, I am across the room on my head. The extension had a 13amp plug ON BOTH ENDS!!! I was lucky that time. There have been more serious events at the hands if the "amateur sparks" BG Edited By Biggestgerbil on 13/06/2012 00:59:30
