  1. Went through my box of covering and the only one with a white paper backing is Hanger 9 Ultracote which is actually Oracover (printed on the backing). My roll of transparent red oracover has a clear backing. So that doesn't make it any easier! Sorry Bob.
  2. Noticed a month ago that E-flite dropped the price in the US to a little over $100US but when I hit the buy button they had all sold out (3 seperate online stores!!) Checked on Horizon's US website and it has been discontinued??? along with 2 or 3 other planes that were knocked down in price. Haven't found an explantion as to why, I assume they weren't selling well enough but the original price was obviously a prime reason for buyer resistance. Pity as I had my eye on one but at $269.99US PNP & no retracts just too dear for a foamie.
  3. Chris.....You can make one quite easily out of some scrap steel plate and some bolts of the correct size. Search the forum under Wire benders, plenty of info & advice on here
  4. Yep had similar behaviour from a couple of HXT900 even with low miles. Four days ago flying my E-flite Sea Fury it started twitching in flight just managed to keep control, then it suddenly did a rapid roll to the right, caught it and landed. On the ground it was fine, until I reconnected ESC again the right aileron servo went to full up, wiggled the stick and it settled again. Dirt or moisture in the pot apparently. So I replaced both aileron servos with Turnigy XDG-9 digitals problem solved. You could dismantle them and blow out the pots but at US $2.69 not worth it plus the risk of a busted plane.
  5. Sounds like it is the same covering HK sells can take plenty of heat espc. when stretching round wingtips, cowls etc. The white line is the adhesive left when it shrinks back from an edge. You can remove it with a little thinners on a cloth. Doubt it is fuel proof, but have painted it with Humbrol enamel after a light sanding.
  6. Sylvain, your covering job is superb what did you use? Oracover?
  7. I think I will be studying this plan as a possible replacement for my much loved but now deceased RCM Pelikan Tucano which went from straight and level flight to an inverted spin before passing through a tree! Cause unknown. Although mumblings of Bermuda triangle were heard amongst some club members. But sorry Peter I would have to do a Lectric conversion.
  8. Welcome Panther, good to see another from downunder joining even if you are from across the ditch. Looking at the forumites map this forum world is definitely top heavy so the more the merrier to balance it up. We will get along fine if you don't mention the Cricket and I won't talk Rugby!!!!
  9. Oh thats impressive, when it comes to watching aircraft the Vulcan is up there with the Spitfire & Sea Fury. great piloting skills too a bit of turbulence & crosswind to deal with espc. in the second Video Congratulations to David Johnson.
  10. I have always used Tamiya masking tape and Tamya Polycarbonate aerosol paints with great results. PS-31 Smoke is great for window tints just spray successive coats to achieve the result you want. Used it last night on the rear windows for a DHC2 Beaver. Used to paint my sons R/C car bodies with them before he discovered girls, never peeled or flaked even after the most horrendous smashes when the bodies were a right off!
  11. No one was injured, plane wasn't broken. Maybe those standing on a raised road so close to the runway perimeter are that part of the human gene pool I am convinced we could do without anyway! Oh no lets blame the Luftwaffe, the police, the airport authority and anyone else in authority plus drum up what was really a fairly ho hum incident and sell newspapers.   Edited By David Ashby - RCME on 31/12/2012 05:17:53
  12. Hi Scott, thanks for the idea!! Nah we get a lot of wind at this time of year -warm though. Sorry but Winter gives us the best flying. A lot of club members say Summer for building, Winters for flying and unfortunetaly I think it's true here.
  13. Damn you Guy's did all right, anyone know of a plan using socks, undies & BBQ cookbook????
  14. Tony H Use denatured alcohol (Methylated Spirits) on a paper towel to clean off any excess epoxy. If you use pin type hinges apply a small amount of thin silicone grease along the hinge where you don't won't glue to adhere
  15. 8am Xmas morning here in NZ, Santa's been but must have been travelling light due to remnants of Cyclone Evan over North Island as there is nothing large enough to be a Spitfire, Hurricane, Xtra or anything else on my wish list under the tree. So if anyone's short of socks n undies maybe we could swap???? On the plus side though it's BLUE SKIES, Temps going to be in the high 20's and light winds, SWMBO might let me out for a fly - YEA RIGHT. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
  16. Some late model cars have mist spray nozzles instead of the old water jet type. Probably the spray pressure is higher but adapting a pump and nozzles would be easier and less complex than using air pressure. Switched by a separate channel would be easy and in 40 years working on cars I can't recall burning out a pump motor (unless it was the old Lucas type) when the bottle was empty!
  17. Ahh, Erflog trust you to come up with that analogy probably a bit harsh but a certain amount of truth in it. Simon, what I referred to was that prop selection is more critical with IC, have seen more than one IC powered plane stuffed in with the wrong prop. CS, I respect and congratulate you on your enthusiasm especially regarding Concorde but unfortunately and we see so much of it these day's, restrictions on everyday life and our enjoyment of such due to the PC brigade, OSH and all sorts of beaurocratic nonsense (a man can't even build his cave/shed with out all sorts of Red Tape, correct Mr Hooper and others?) means that IC aircraft are probably going to be Museum pieces sometime in the future.
  18. When I took up model flying again three years ago my club consisted of predominately "commited" IC flyers, which mean't I got a barrage of "Oh another one that's gone over to the dark side" , "Let the smoke out", "Why don't you get a real engine" and other unprintable Jests. We fly from a sight that has no real noise limitations, apart from those self imposed by members with respect to others, so noise is not a real issue. Why then have all those IC members over the last 3 years converted, acquired, purchased, begged, swapped, built and borrowed electric planes, helicopters, quadcopters and anything else you can stuff an electric motor in and I don't get the comments and snide remarks anymore? BECAUSE they are more convenient, cheaper to buy and run, aren't smelly, don't leak, destroy covering & airframes, are not so fussy about prop selection or fuel etc etc etc. Don't get me wrong I do think the right IC motor espc. 4 stroke multi in a scale plane sounds fantastic. But I have a choice along with everyone else and for the above reasons plus others I choose ELECTRIC.
  19. What determines a planes speed? why at some point in it's life it's GRAVITY!!!
  20. See this is what happens with IC'ers tis cos of the fumes building up in their sheds.
  21. Hi Erflog, I use a Turnigy 3542/1000kv on my Tyro 150 3s batt. using a 10x8 APC pulls about 330w in flight at approx 9600rpm no problems flight times of about 12 mins easily. Plane weighs 1400 gms.
  22. Thanks Chris,BEB & Graham, my wife heard me laughing so much she read the thread over my shoulder, I am now grounded for the weekend!!!! However what she doesn't know is the forecast is for Rain, Winds & Snow down to 700metres!!! So I will spend the whole weekend in the shed trying to finish winter projects which is what I planned anyway!!! As for the Special can't wait even coming round to thinking about the Havard, but still want a Whirlwind TONY.
  23. A scale pilot is probably first call to add realism to a model, getting hold of one thats realistic enough seems to be a problem without spending a lot of flying dollars is another. A bit of paint goes a long way when modifiy some of the cheaper ones. However my biggest problem at the moment is that my wife is insisting my next pilot should be female and PC to boot so big boobs, blonde etc is out!!! So if anyone knows of a source of something fitting the bill I would like to know. Got to keep the peace so I can go off to the club without being told my models are based around some chauvanistic ideals!!!
