  1. Phil I would, if it were me, bolt some 6mm MDF inside the angle at the back and sides, this would increase the rigidity no end. It also has the added advantage of preventing things falling down the back and sides. We all have the under bench gremlins that steal things and hide them under the bench, don't we?
  2. Hi Pete just shows how SWMBO can interupt a posting and you miss a vital post. Had a look at your link it is all starting to become clear, well clearer. Many thanks.
  3. Hi Pete Being a bit of a numpty and a beginer I have no idea what the aux settings are used for but according to the manual the SAFE system will not work properly if the transmitter is not programmed as per instructions. I will sit down in the morning with a reasonably clear head and go through your instructions and see what happens.
  4. Hi knowledgable people. I have just aquired an e-flite apprentice, having a DX7s it is a bind and fly. I come to set up the transmitter as per e-flite's instructions which say go to switch select and set gear to inh,fm to inh, flap to gear and trainer to aux1, all fine until we come to the last when we find trainer has not got aux1 only aux2. The DX7 manual is of no help but it shows aux1 in the illustration. How do I find it? please. I also need to reverse aux1 (when I find the little so and so).
  5. The name Allbon comes from a guy called Alan Allbon who was an engine designer in the 1940/50s he had various connections one being with Davies Charlton. I believe that he started out making engines somewhere in West London before moving North.
  6. One more thing Andy, make sure you have a witness to the incident where the plane crashed who is able and competent to say the plane was being flown in a competent manner. Without such a witness you are on a hiding to nothing as it will be just your word that you did not just stuff the plane into the deck.
  7. Hi Spicecat Yes it moves, I understand that a lot of their trade is the import of cars from the continent. Ther is a large area which is stacked with cars adjacent to the dock. How often they come and go I am afraid I do not know. No 1 daughter imported a car some years ago and we had to go to Purfleet to collect it (Purfleet being the location of the dock). Despite my little brother living a short distance from Elmsett I have never been, it always seems that I do not need anything when I go to visit (well you always need something, but cannot justify its purchase I find). Oh well of to Lakeside with SWMBO this morning.
  8. Nah, thats not messy, it looks tidy to me, in fact very tidy I can see bench.
  9. You can also try fleabay under Egg Crate Foam. I got mine, just in the nick of time so it seems.
  10. Gents If you do receive one of these please, please, please contact the relevant organisation, in this case HMRC. Most if not all have dept's that deal with fraud and fraud prevention. By informing them they can take steps to help prevent this type of fraud.
  11. Phil 9 Do not silver solder. The heat required will soften the piano wire. The first firm landing and the u/c will take on a form that will bear no resemblance to the original shape, it will be next to impossible to straighten. Stick to the soft solder, it works. Piano wire is hardened by the drawing process during manufacture and cannot be restored once destroyed.
  12. Simon I seem to recall a post some time last year about the length of wires from battery to ESC and ESC to motor. From memory I think the opinion of those who are far better qualified than me is that you can extend ESC to motor wires but not battery to ESC as it has a tendency to fry the ESC. I have tried to find the post without any luck.
  13. Many thanks I said I had been looking in the wrong place. In answer to your question Robin I have as yet not got an iMac, it is time my present confuser was replaced and the iMac is my prefered option for a number of reasons. If I need to lob out another £200 to £300 to obtain the various add ons it might be I will need to take another look. It pays to look at all the options before you purchase.
  14. Gentlemen (and of course ladies) Do any of you know of a simulator that will run on The Apple OSX operating system. I have looked and been unable to find anything, plenty for microsoft windows, appears to be a gap in the market! or have I been looking in the wrong places.
  15. My last order was 4 weeks via Staines
  16. While I do not claim to be an expert I have done a bit of airbrushing. Airbrushes themselves are not good for large areas, a small touch up gun is a better bet. You will need a larger compressor to run a touch up gun (the voice of experience) . The most important thing is if you intend doing detail work the compressor has a resevoir, this smooths out the pulsating of the compressor and helps maintain the pressure. Many people try to airbrush at a much to high a pressure this can cause splatter, I spray thinned enamel at about 20psi with an airbrush. The secret is the thinning of the paint and practice practice and more practice. I generally use a ratio of 60/40 paint to thinners as a starting point. Absolute cleanliness is essential in all spraying equipment especially airbrushes. When you have finished spraying take them apart and clean them ( I use cellulose thinners) . Before you use them again take them apart and clean them again, you will be amazed at the amount of muck that can come out on this second clean. Acrylic paint is another problem, this sticks to the inside of airbrushes like the proverbial, an ammonia solution will come to the rescue but do not let the acrylic harden. My advice is have your cleaning equipment set up before you start spraying..
  17. I am sure someone out there will know the answer. I have a Spektrum dx7s mode 2 as I am a beginer I am buddied with a mode 2 instructor. I have aquired a mode 1 dx7 can I be buddied to a mode 1 instructor with this set up using dsm2 receiver. The reason being is that I have access to more mode 1 instructors than mode 2. If this will work then I can get more flying time in.
  18. Hi Phil I had the same problem, I suspect from the same supplier. I think the damage is caused by the bag of bits and bobs floating about loose in the box. They eventually sent a replacement wing and collected the damaged wing. They will want a photograph of the damage before they send a replacement. Part of the problem is that the covering becomes brittle in the cold, which is when I suspect the damage occured. I did need to make a couple of phone calls plus two e-mails to get the matter resolved.
  19. I have been flying mine for a few weeks now. I (or rather my instructor) found that the 400w motor i had put in was a bit lacking in power for take off's 50yds to lifting so I have now installed a XYH3548 900kv , its off the deck in 15feet now. It is pulling 540watts on a 11x5 prop with a 4s, on half throttle for most flying it is about 220watts. I am getting about 8mins flight.
  20. I use B & Q plastic dust sheet from their budget range to cover plans, it is cheap and cheerfull you get a million miles of it in a pack, well almost. If you need to throw some away it will not hurt, well not much. Like all modellers I hate throwing things away, they might come in usefull one day.
  21. Hi Jim I have the plan for the long nose version, but I will be hacking that down since I found out that only three were built, that will restrict coulor schemes. I do like some variations to chose from. If mine turns out as nice looking as yours I will pleased.
  22. Well done fella's How come I never found that site? It has all the info I will need to create a masterpiece. I just need to find the skill. I can see that unless I can find a dimensioned drawing of the full size I will be scaling photographs and turning a sport scale into a scale model. I have a few ideas about what needs doing, should keep the grey cells active over the next few days/weeks/months.
  23. Thanks BBC, That link has given me plenty to work on. What I really need to know is 'is the full size Islander fitted with Frise ailerons? or has the designer of the model used them out of convenience. I know I should just build it but that is not my way. I suspect that by the time i come to start the build I will have redesigned the whole thing. I think it must be that the older you get the more pedantic you get, still keeps me out of the Pub (well not completly)
