  1. Some of the younger fliers may not recall or know that in the 50s a C4 argonaut developed fuel supply problems on finals and come down in Stockport Cheshire in a place called HopeCarr, it is widely documented on the web, well, 2 years ago I was working on contract clearing rivers of debris, and one place that we where sent was Hope Carr , now at that time I was un aware of this crash, it was way before my time, and I tell you it really feels weird down there, anyway, whilst wading around in the river with me pitch fork hooking rubbish out , appeared this chunk of aluminium, so I give it a wash off and noticed that it had green corrosion on this ali, more likely Dural , it is possibly part of a C4 Oleo , I still have the part in the shed , I,ll photograph it and post it so you can see for yourselves .
  2. There was a model of Cloditz glider built in the 80,s , in fact it was on display at Wembly model engineering exhibition possibly 84, 85 ish, and I think it was also featured in RCME, and it did fly. it would have been about 6 foot wingspan I recall Did it appear in RCME or did I just dream it anyone?
  3. Don,t want to alarm anyone, but , a mate of mine works at the place where some 380 parts are made , in fact he is a welder on the main strut line, and this week, I have had to teach him how to weld , I know welding for an MOT is different, but not that much , you,d of thought jig welding titanium would be easier, he assures me its okay !!
  4. Yeah , I,ve got a gift voucher for my LMS somewhere , it'll turn up the week after it expires , sods law.and tape measures I dare'nt turn my back on em , crafty little things run off and hide !
  5. Its alright, I've got your black wire! well at least I think its yours , its certainly come from some where. Its wrapped itself around all me stuff in the flight box, I'm sure it was,nt in there before.Edited By JOHN THOMPSON 5 on 12/02/2011 23:52:44
  6. What a refreshing change to see new technology used for soemthing that is'nt mobile phones or weapons, well done BEB.
  7. I designed and built a mid wing sports plane , all out of depron , but entirely held together with Fablon, covered all the surfaces , hinges , the lot, the key is to run a medium hot iron over the fablon,to stick it down properly , BEWARE though once ironed its on for good , just as well cos it makes the depron bomb proof.
  8. Is anyoneelse suffering the effects of long term detachment from flying, its been 5 months since I' ve been on a flight line , I've done so much building that the back room looks like Gatwick airport, i've checked radio gear so many times its wearing out from checkin' it, I've flown so many hours on the sim that I'll probably only be able to fly with a crisp box on my head with the end cut out cos thats about all you can see on a sim, and to add insult to injury I got another gallon of fuel for Christmas, I NEEEEEEEED TO GO FLYING!!!!!!. With work , Christmas hostilites, rubbish weather , its not on .I can only fly Tuesdays and Thursdays, this week good flying weather Monday , wednesday , Friday chuffin' typical Phew ! I feel better after that , If you are in the same boat go ahead have a rant, you know you want to. John
  9. I just was wondering if your spacewalker came with a fuel tank, reason being that I've had the same trouble with aTravel Air , it turned out to be the flashing on the plastic moulded pipes through the bung , the flashing was creating a hole so small you would'nt notice right down the inside of the joint on the pick up pipe, so at half tank it sucks air instead of fuel, ,sorted it by scraping the flashing off with a knife and all seems fine now, just thought it could be a Black Horse problem hope you sort it John
  10. Alright , youve convinced me, Lady sarah, Sandbach not got the kit yet, may have a go at adepron version
  11. YES , I'm putting what I thought was an SC25 in mine however it turned out to be a 15 in a 25 box, a little dissapointed but I'm sure it will be an easier build for it,   By the way a big hello to Steve Webb , and happy new year , we havent met for a while but myself and other half Sarah Bunn are regular visitors to the shop, We'd like to thank you for keeping the Webbit going it turned out to be a good move in the end , even more so for us as Sarah is a diagnosed sufferer of RA also. all the best to all at SWM ( especially Fred)
  12. Try ALDI  NiMh 's   AA  AND TRIPLE A for making rx packs up £2.99 for 4 give you an 850mah pack they fast charge pretty well also.
  13. So who's planning on going to the fly in at Greenacres with a Webbit? and when we all get there, would'nt it be an idea to have badges with our forum names on so that we can put some faces to the names? unless of course your forum name is something really embarassing outside the context of this forum. good luck with the build John
  14. John Thompson Sandbach cheshire not bought kit yetEdited By JOHN THOMPSON 5 on 15/01/2011 09:01:39
  15. @David Gilder, well I thought that if I havent got my A ticket by then , with an SC25 fitted I could get a quick flight in before anyone notices ah ah.
  16. Just found a new SC 25 in the workshop that I'd forgotten about , that'll go in my Webbit just nice I think.
  17. That,ll do for me , should be good , and wifey  is going to let me go to the fly in as well , bonus! any one want to fly a new Webbit ?, I havent got me A ticket yet. all the best to fellow entrants. John
  18. Hi all, just picked up on this thread , I,ve been in engineering since I left school , too long ago to remember, we always use a company called BEARING SERVICES, they never fail to get the right size bearings, simply meaesure the ID ,OD and FACE WIDTH , and they go off and bring you the bearing you need evn cross over sizes metric to english, they have a web site and are very obliging, they also offer a hand full of different qualities of bearing and prices at whatever size your after, well worth a look .
  19. Yes , it looks good, the kit quality is outstanding, its my follow on from a high wing trainer , so looking forward to it, just a little worried about speed though, my trainer really did move with an Irvine 40 in, using the same engine in an airframe thats half the weight of the trainer, should be interesting Steve.
  20. I was right , it was a new plane , Black Horse Travel air, plus a gallon of fuel and £20.00 voucher for webbies, she must be after something .   merry christmas hope you all got what you wanted John.
  21. A big box arrived at ours this morning, it seems wifey knows all about it, no rush to see what it is by her when it arrived , right size and shape for dare I say it ..... a new plane! . I've ruled out, ironing boards, flat pack cage for the kids, drying rack for the clothes, its obvious it must be a plane , mmmmm , but which one ? just wondered if anyone else had any mysterious parcels turn up lately merry christmas to all John
  22. Daves quite right , a medical version of cyano is in use at most if not all A+E units, its usually  restricted to injuries were cosmetic appearence is an issue such as facial injuries , I recieved a bad cut across the bridge of my nose , which was cyano'd together, the cyano is purple when applied and turns pink when set, the hardened glue is then absorbed into the body were it naturally desipates, one thing it hurts more than stitches with no aneasthetic . JOHN
  23. big is beautiful, not enough cargo  models about AN225 ANTONOV
  24. Hi Josip, fortunately my inlaws come flying with us they have been flying longer than us , they have a skoda favorit which is like a tardis and being bright red stands out like a beacon so if we change flying sites I just aim for the red skoda, all the best John
  25. Piano wire can be threaded quite easy , any good quality split die is usually made from heat treated cobalt steel whch is harder than the piano wire,   you need a proper 3 screw die stock , back off the outer 2 screws , screw in the middle one thus openiing up the die , enough to put a half cut on , lock the die up with the outer screws and using ep 90 gear, oil start cutting the thread , then using a threaded bolt of the desired size , reset the die , and very carefully cut the finish cut, you must always use oil as the main  reason for loosing die teeth is high pressure caused by the two surfaces siesing up , this can be done in multiple cuts , you get a feel for this when you,ve done a few ,   incidentally if you anneal piano wire and cool it in an uncontrolled fashion sub surface micro fractures can occur especially directly beneath any thread or bend that has been done, the micro fractures will go un detected until the u/c fails too late then.   hope this is useful JOHN
