  1. I finally got around to blowing off the cobwebs yesterday and nobody else was at the field In fairness, everyone else had been flying on Saturday and it was a tad breezy, but nevertheless, the Venom handled it with aplomb and I went home smiling.
  2. I've used both Easy Composites (link in Roo's post) and East Coast Fibreglass, both are excellent companies to deal with and are highly recommended.
  3. Posted by john davidson 1 on 13/03/2018 14:15:17: cracked it! plugged the second esc into channel 5 and slaved it to throttle at -100% works perfect, .this was before i saw Petes reply above, it does make a blind difference but how is another matter Nice one John, there's always another way of doing things. I'll have to get the grey matter working as to why this should be though. Did you check there wasn't a short anywhere in the y lead? You've now also got the facility to have differential throttle mixed with the rudders!
  4. That's all very odd John. First thing I'd do is to check the y lead for continuity across the servo/esc ends - there shouldn't be any, but that would explain what's going on. Secondly, my normal practice for multi-engined electric models is much the same as yours appears to be, ie independent systems with a common link at the receiver (albeit using a separate NiMh rx pack) which I've found to be problem free apart from the 2 dodgy y leads. I have done a couple using shared flight packs and these were without issues too. The one other suggestion I can offer is to try putting each esc into its own rx channel - shouldn't make a blind bit of difference though!
  5. Hi John, have you tried disconnecting the red wire from both esc's (no need to cut, just remove the little gold connector from the plug housing) and powering them up with a separate receiver battery? That will rule out any peculiar bec issues and is my preferred method with any model capable of carrying a rx pack. If both esc's are working when plugged in individually and with a separate battery, then try another y lead. I used to assume that there was nothing to go wrong with extension leads, but in the past year have had 2 issues that were resolved by replacing leads, so that's another thing not to assume! Let us know how you get on.
  6. Posted by Peter Garsden on 11/03/2018 21:19:11: The carbon connector rod was loose in the wing tube so Andy suggested I apply to coats of epoxy to create a larger circumference.and make it tighter in the tube. I mixed some microballoons with some epoxy and applied two coats. It is still not very tight but better. I've always used a layer of masking tape to solve this one. If a single wrap of tape is too much, then try using it on half of the joiner rod. Works for me!
  7. I've been using Turnigy Graphene packs since they arrived on the market with lots of claims and can only sing their praises. The ones I have are mostly 4000mAh + and 4 or 6 cell packs, but they get used mainly for EDF models with the associated beasting they receive in that application and I've had absolutely nothing to complain about. No puffing, sagging voltage or any other malaise. One feature they do have in common with other high performance Lipos with a very flat discharge curve is very little warning when they're about to expire. Not a problem, you just need to remember to set your flight timer, or have a reasonable glide!
  8. Taking to the air after 77 years.. After being shot down by 2 Bf 109's at Dunkirk P2902 was painstakingly restored by Hawker Restorations at their Suffolk facility. This video is taken using a mobile phone (hence the poor quality) and is of the post-restoration maiden flight on 19th of June 2017 from Elmsett Airfield, Suffolk. 9. Hi Nigel, While you certainly could get by with doubling up on your existing charger, having charged quite a lot of 4000 - 5000 packs from 4 to 6 cells, I'd be inclined to ramp up the charger capacity to make things easier. I've been using one of these for the last 6 months with great results - ISDT D2 200W 24A AC Dual Channel Charger . It's a very straightforward and capable charger with plenty of facilities. Cheers, Pete
  10. "The biggest battery you can get in is a 2000 4s, dispite what HK says, indeed it says on the box it goes on a 2000 battery." I fly mine with a 4000mAh 4S all the time (I have squeezed a 3300 6S pack in with a different motor/fan) The model flies much better for the extra weight and still glides forever! "And the take off run is a bit vague until rudder authority kicks in" The standard model doesn't have a rudder, just nosewheel steering, but it does benefit from a smoother surface. The best way to fly the Vampire is as a hand-launch model... KISS principle
  11. Posted by Martyn K on 01/02/2018 16:07:00: I have been told that Tamiya tape is the dogs whatsits for masking. Haven's tried it yet though Another vote for Tamiya tape. If you want a soft edge you can use the airbrush freehand. These were done that way and seem ok.
  12. Hi Geoff. I've used several YEP esc's in edf models and Trevor is absolutely correct when he advises using the Auto timing setting. I use this as a default and while you could argue that tweaking of the timing might increase the performance slightly, in practice I've never found it necessary to do so. YEP esc's are very flexible in use, but this flexibility comes at the price of complexity, and many have been returned under warranty as faulty when in fact it's a simple programming error, although yours does sound like a dodgy one! If you haven't already, have a look at this video for a nice, clear explanation of how to programme the esc using the card. Pete
  13. Hi Dusty, I agree. The first time I came across is must have been 10 years or so ago when a friend was selling a car on another perfectly respectable website. They even got on the phone to explain how reasonable it was to ship a Land Rover to Senegal! Mr D Mann is, needless to say on my blocked list.
  14. Friends, please be aware of a potential scam that popped up for me today. It's an old modus operandi whereby the supposed buyer agrees a price, sends a cheque to cover everything plus some. You give the goods to the pre-arranged courier once said cheque has apparently cleared only to have it bounce a few days later... I'm sure we've all heard of it. Correspondence below. Apologies to Mr D Mann if he's legit, but asking for pictures and a price when the ad quite clearly has both isn't a great start! Vigilanti semper!   Hi,    Glad to hear from you. This sounds good and it's like we can come to an agreement,so keep the ad off market and consider sold to me.I am okay with the price £100,your details is needed for payment to be issued out to you via post,in which reputable courier will handle the shipment. So do not worry about that OKAY.An excess money we be included on the check payment which would cover both the item bought and for the pick-up okay. All you need to do,Once the cheque clears in 3 working days, you are to deduct your payment, afterward the remaining funds in-cures shipping for the pick up at your location... I will send the shipping agent details when the payment clears. Get back to me with your details as requested below: Full name... Residential address... Cell Phone number... Home Phone number... I will await to hear from you with regard this as soon as possible. Thank You. On 12/10/17, Peter Taylor  wrote: > Hi, the asking price is as advertised  £100. 15. Thanks Neill. It'll be interesting to see what they're planning. MRC do so many great models that it's a shame we don't see more of them this side of the pond.
  16. That sounds intriguing... which forum was that on?
  17. Just received an email notification from Motion RC with details of their latest upcoming release, a B-24 no less! I realise that foam isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love my 1800mm B-17 and it never fails to draw attention in fight, so maybe this is a worthy stablemate? Now, who's going to be first to release a similar sized Lancaster I wonder?
  18. It may be cheaper to buy directly from Motion RC. I've done so in the past for models and the service is outstanding...It'll be at your door within the week! They're quoting $68.99 shipping for the Spitfire on the website and you'll have to pay whatever Spreadsheet Phil demands of course.
  19. Posted by Peter Miller on 07/11/2017 13:37:48: Hey Pete How about doing the Corsair with the tilt wing for slow landings? I always fancied that but it would be far more practical with a ducted fan Now there's a challenge...
  20. Posted by Erfolg on 05/11/2017 16:22:55: Has Christmas been, and I have missed it? There are a lot of new models about. A few more details with respect to the Crusader would be really interesting. Apologies for the delay. Here's the link to the Crusader web page Bottom line is 545mm span, 825mm long for a 64mm fan and 1000~2200mAh 3 cell Lipos. it's a little cracker!
  21. Scratching the scale glider itch with a Seagull Pilatus B4. Converted to EP using an XPower XC3522/5 Long Shaft outrunner and 2 x 3 cell 2200mAh Lipos in parallel to achieve the recommended CG, giving an effective 4400mAh 11.1 V supply through a 60A esc. Now for something at the other end of the spectrum; a Freewing F-8 Crusader. Too cute to resist and a rarely modelled fighter .
