  1. I've found Hitec HS325HB servos to be really reliable in a number of models and they're only about a tender too.
  2. Happy days, didn't realise I'd won until my servo arrived in the post today. Thank you very much
  3. Don't know if you've seen this Motor/Prop calculator but it's very good. The figures it gave me are almost identical to those I measured with my watt meter. Means you can 'test' different prop sizes for a given motor/lipo combo before actually having to buy them Dave.
  4. For the last 17 years I've worked on helicopters and never really had any 'interest' in aircraft. About 18 months ago I moved into a desk job and soon felt the need to do something more practical. I saw a model flying display and thought 'I could build one of those'. I built a TN Sky 40 trainer last winter. Joined a local club in about April. Passed my A in July and am nearing completion of a Clean Sweep . I've got a list of 'must build' models as long as my arm and am enjoying flying too. Dave.
  5. For the phoenix sim to work you need their adaptor cable plugged into your computer. It won't work with the reality craft controller. The good news is that updates are free for life so you can buy an old version off eBay and it'll update to the latest automatically. Dave.
  6. Got in a few good hours in the beautiful Somerset November sun, including my first ever IC flights. Good times
  7. Finally got a chance to fly the hog today. It was great! Maybe a bit overpowered ( flies great at 1/3 throttle!) but certainly nice to have more than a five minute flight. And no hour long wait between not a huge fan of the oil all over the model afterwards but I suppose nothing's perfect. once again, cheers for all of the great advice Dave.
  8. I love it Really hope you can get that published. Nearly finished my clean sweep so I could do with something else to get stuck into. Of course, the upcoming Tony Nijhuis Vulcan will keep me going for a while...... Dave.
  9. I bought a sundeala board. It's what notice boards are made of, Designed for drawing pins etc. You can get it from places that sell model trains. I think they use it to pin their tracks to? Dave.
  10. Well, after digesting all of the great advice given, I went and bought an SC .61 2 stroke. Got an Astro Hog off ebay to put it in too Can't wait to give it a go now. Once again, cheers. Dave.
  11. Once again, cheers for all the advice. They way the weather is I can't see the club being an option today. I have looked at Just Engines and they seem really good. Anyone have any experience of their JEN range? They seem very reasonably priced and I like the black/purple too Dave
  12. Cheers for all the responses I'll be back up at the field in the morning and will have a chat with the guys there too. I'm leaning towards an Evolution models Fusion or maybe an Enigma bipe. Sounds like a good 2 stroke might suit better...... I definately wont be ditching electric altogether, especially as my Clean Sweep is nearly finished Maybe I should just get a few more batteries. Although, If they look as good as that Saito C.S. I may go 4 stroke lol. Dave. Edited By David Molineux on 28/10/2012 01:27:55 Edited By David Molineux on 28/10/2012 01:29:27
  13. Cheers Greybeard. I've noticed the noise is less with a 4, and also nicer I think. They do seem a fair bit more expensive though. Are there any differences, say with setup and operation? Cheers, Dave
  14. Hi all, i am usually an electric only flyer but I'm getting really frustrated by lipo charge vs flight time. The ic guys in the club get 3 or 4 flights to each of mine and longer duration too! I am very seriously considering getting something ic and am wondering about the pros and cons of 2/4 stroke motors. If I can get my head round that ill only have to worry about which plane....... cheers, Dave.
  15. I'm just about to order some covering for my Clean Sweep build so I guess I'll find out   Blimey, it's almost unusable! Edited By David Molineux on 18/10/2012 10:34:21
  16. For what it's worth... I have ordered stuff from wheelspin a few times. My second Hitec optic 6 sport for a buddy box was 'shadow stock' and arrived within the week. I have only had very good service from them and would be more than happy to use them again in the future. Dave.
  17. With most escs you can program with your TX, usually by plugging it in with the throttle at max until you get a specific code of beeps. Depends on the exact esc. If you havn't got instructions maybe someone else has? or maybe the all seeing google will know
  18. Sign me up for the big one Blimey, only just starting out in RC and already I've got a list as long as my arm of future projects! I'm currently working towards my A test with a Sky 40 trainer which I really enjoyed building and now flying. For what it's worth, I think the EDF option will look so much better. David.
  19. Wow, that thing sounds incredible! Certainly looks like a handful for the pilot.
  20. Got in the air today and she flies beautifully once.Again Thanks again for all the help. David.
  21. Problem solved! I popped into my LMS today and picked up an 80A Overlander ESC. With it fitted, and with the 10x5 prop I get : 15V, 53A,790W. The motor was only luke warm after a few test runs too I tried the 11x5.5 just to see but when it passed 60A at about 3/4 throttle I decided to abort and stick with the 10x5. Thanks once again for all the help/suggestions. There seems to be a lot to learn in this hobby but with so many people willing to help it's that much easier. Can't wait to get in the air again I wonder if my other motor would be any good in the Clean Sweep......... David
