  1. I don't know if the polling data is wrong. They only make predictions to plus/minus three percent. That would account for up to half the error. Factor in the undecideds/don't tells, which the thicko journalist does not make much mention of and the poll data is easily accurate, it just is not a good predictor of the future. The undecideds/won't tells do not necessarily split the same way as the declared group, and by definition must have a different mindset to the declared group, so why should they. Polls just make for headlines, and ulcers for anyone having to rely on them. They are very poor predictors of tight outcomes. They make a nice living for pollsters.
  2. Over the years, while never been an ARTF addict, I have never had a problem with the supplied tanks, or sealing them, or with not staying sealed. As I said they are not the best but most are serviceable, and free.
  3. Use one from a broken artf. Replace the clunk tube, check for leaks, and away you go. Most artf tanks are, while not being as good as Johns' favourites, serviceable.
  4. One thing I don't understand is the need. Police/military helicopters carry thermal cameras. In a person search before they die job, these lads fly in conditions where a model will not last 10 seconds. And I for one would not like to fly a model in strange hill country, in anything other than calm conditions. Slope soarer boys are going to be a lot better, but I bet they also know when to stop flying better. And they have a lot do stick time. But good luck with your ambition.
  5. Launch can be with a catapult. Land with a parachute. It's the between bit that worries me.
  6. Daniel, how much experience have you with models of this size. I am not getting much sense that you are familiar with them. While they don't explode when they hit the ground, you have to realise that you are operating a petrol operated brush cutter, at a distance, while it cavorts round the sky. A degree of caution is needed lest it contributes to the casualty list.
  7. Jon, my Visa twitches. The God speaks. Does this thing run smooth like a laser.
  8. Don't care, if you want to loiter, batteries don't carry the energy. I believe NASA are developing a drone, 10 electric motors, vertical take off capability, rotating wing to lift flight, powered by 2 diesel motors driving alternators. Not cheap. Go for petrol, and work on vibration damping. Twins?, camera in tail?. Thick me, but batteries don't loiter.
  9. Might be thick, but to loiter you need a petrol motor, if you want cheap as well.
  10. John, desist, or I will whip you with my ebony stick!
  11. Thank you Pete, didn't know that, very useful bit if knowledge.
  12. One way of flushing an engine which has worked for me in the past is to connect it up to a fuel supply, open the main needle a turn past optimal, ie well rich, remove the glow plug, and spin it for 30 seconds on a starter, at FULL throttle. Tends to shift the gunge, and allows you to check if fuel is getting through. Then put the plug back, return the needle, hopefully it goes.
  13. And while I rant, do you not enjoy watching these pigmies squirm. Different game Friday. Vive la revolution. And so to bed.
  14. Not vote, don't complain, even if you get down there and write a pox on all your houses, at least you have said something. The right is to say something, even if you would not urinate on the choices of they were on fire.
  15. Avtur, yes I accept your point, but where were our lot before the boys leaders took over.
  16. No vote, don't complain after. By the way, I seem to recall my ancestors were shot by the political class for asking for this privilege. Edited By Donald Fry on 05/05/2015 21:16:56 Edited By Donald Fry on 05/05/2015 21:18:11
  17. And while I rant, this thread started with a bloke who says he is an experienced flyer trying to get back into this game, who is unable to get stick time. It would take nothing in time to establish if he knows the rules re crash safely.
  18. This is getting boring. We fly toy planes. As long as you can crash in perfect safety to other people, their property, and farm stock, what is the problem. The A test has always been a solution looking for a problem. I'm not addressing getting good at flying, just getting it up, moving it about, and getting it down without a week in the workshop here.
  19. I hate to bring a serious note to this discussion, but is this not a sad reflection to us that our "leaders" are such a uninspiring collection. They are (mostly ) of our age group. Vive la revolution.
  20. And not only is the plane very nice, but I think you are a picture of sartorial elegance. Is the hat Dior, or do you have your own designer, and the teasing glimpse of flesh round the ankles. I think I need a lie down.
  21. An Irvine 53 with a 6 inch pitch prop on mine, performs as you describe Scruffmeister. Built with the firewall recessed 5 mm back from the front edge of the fuselage, every thing balances out, servos installed in the under wing bay,no lead. Closes loop used on the rudder. Tend to agree about 4 strokes in these being heavy. Remember the design is older that 4 stroke model engine technology. An ASP 75 powered example I once knew, had it servos on the tail. Ballistic performance. But it clapped its wings, albeit after severe provocation.
  22. Small thing, but the undercarriage plate is thinner than the prong nuts used to secure the glass fibre undercarriage version, and it needs a couple of eight lite ply washers glued in so the nuts secure properly. Don't worry about beefing it up, Mr Fosse has some competence as a designer. Use nylon bolts to secure the undercarriage, so the bolt breaks before the plate.
  23. I am very uncomfortable with this thread. Is it not akin to asking a lady how old she is?
