  1. Hi Piers, thank you for the info. Yes it looks an ideal topic for MB, but it does look a bit like the Ballerina. But you never know. The plan looks good, with the come and build me appeal. I took the Ballerina out yesterday for its last flight of this year, as at my age cold weather and me don’t get on very well.
  2. I have just got the October RCME and the plan inside. So having had a good look at it I fancy building the model. But as I’m not a lover of cutting out endless amount of formers etc I was wondering if there was a package of CNC cut parts etc that I could buy. If anyone can help on that front I’d appreciate the help.
  3. Well I have built 3 of the Mass Builds, those years being a single model. Also I have not started straight away as I have waited to read some of the build threads entered by those who really know what they are doing. lastly I have waited to buy a CNC wood pack If one has been cut. The Ballarina has been the best, and I have just refurbished mine, and changed the engine position. So for me if you have a single build I’m in, but the years we have ended up with several models then I have not bothered with the build or even bothered to read the threads. So for me pick one model and let’s stick with it. Any model taking in a range of 25 to 40 ic size engine, or equivalent electric seems the most popular. Let’s stick with the build but agree on one model. Maybe after the battle of Britton TV programme we should pick a warbird, Cambrian kit or plan. It’s down to the readers not me.
  4. Yes I think most modellers were happy to have their hobby showcased on main stream TV. I see the other radio controlled modelling shows on SKY have all disappeared, or gone on to some obscure station within the organisation that cannot be located.
  5. Seeing as by the end of this series every pilot who enjoys warbirds is going to want one of these planes, any idea of manufacturer and costs etc, or we’re all these made just for this TV programme.
  6. Hi Clive I would add, make sure you buy the canopy from Vortex vacforms, I think that’s the name. I cracked the first one I bought, so made the one in the picture by shaping old balsa glued together and then hollowing out from the inside. It’s worked ok, but a bit heavy. I’ve just received 2 new once’s from this company. Tom
  7. Yes that’s the 30, built both, and the larger one is about 10 to 12. There are pictures I’ve added on these 2 on here some where. Yes here they are.
  8. Hi Clive I built one earlier this year, an absolute gem. The artical is not the best, but is states 8mm movement on all surfaces to start with and adjust to your own requirements. You don’t need that much believe me, but it can be a bit quick. Have fun, I do. Just started building another one.
  9. After I built the 45” model, as the weather was bad, I and a fellow flyer both built the 30” size, and we are using 3S 2200. Yes they go like a rocket. I must admit my first flight was going well until it just fell out of the sky. Damage was total. I had no idea why it happened. So home it came and it sat under the bench, which I looked at every time I went into the garage and incouldn’t decide what to do with it. The guy that built the other one took his out, on one of the few nice days in Spring before this silly weather arrived, which I launched, so after watching his fly so well for the life of the charge, I got thinking. When I got home and put my planes away I got the remains of the Tuc on the bench and realised it was only the fus that was wrecked. So I built a new fus and used the remaining of the original plane. The only issue I had was on the crash I lost the canopy. So I built one from balsa, shaped it, then hollowed it out with the Drexel. Best decision I’ve made for a while. Just wondering if I could build one with an approx size inbetween the two.
  10. Just thought I would up date this thread. I bought the wood pack, as suggested, and built the model along the lines of the many mass build threads on here. As the weather was so bad ( I wish we had some of that rain now) I also went and built the 30” model as well. Both covered the same. The smaller model is great to fly as it really can move. But both fly well and have enjoyed them better than some of the expensive kits I have built over the years. Thinking of having another go this winter, maybe putting wheels on the 45” and a 30” to keep it company.
  11. Well you have all been great with your advice. Just to put you in the picture I’ve stripped this plane down and I’m slowly rebuilding to ( I hope) a better condition. Looking at the many pictures on line and you tube, it appears this is an early version of the kit. Here in Weston S Mare although the sun is beating down, we have had a continuous strong wind, since the sun came out, which, to me, makes flying not the fun event I enjoy. So I have had time to play in the garage. Taking the rudder and elevator off, I’ve found very large hinges epoxied in place, which don’t lend to being pulled out, so I’ve made new from stock wood. I was going to use Mylar hinges pinned in place as per normal, when I put back in situ. Any comments on that. I’m still to address the wings, but the aeralon are now out and the hinges are also rather large items also well and Truly stuck in. So thoughts and advice please.
  12. Hi All, well I have my xtra wot, a used model in need of a bit of TLC. So I have a couple of questions to carry on with this. Do I need 2 servo,s on the elevator, and what inboard battery should I use. I have an SC 120 to fit up front. Cheers
  13. just making a comment, I decided to get a few stored aircraft down and clean up and maybe fly them in this ridiculous weather. I Can’t believe how saggy and wrinkled the profilm has become in this heat. They look rather sad in that state.the iron will be working overtime.
  14. Well I have now flown both models. The little one was doing ok but just fell out of the sky. No idea why but it was a complete mess when I retrieved it, but no canopy. It sat on the garage floor for awhile as I didn’t know what to do with it, although jumping on it came to mind. In the end I cut the tail off and rebuilt the front end of the fuselage. The wings were good so rebuilt and flying ok. The larger model just left the ground and flew away quite happily, but I have got confused with which way up they both are so some covering needed on the underside of both planes. Great planes both of them, playing with making another of the larger ones.
  15. I’m the same as Phil 9, just got an Xtra Wot but it’s in need of a bit of TLC, I have a super tiger 90 which I was thinking of fitting. Views please as it came with an MDS 148 and I have no intention of using that.
  16. Well I’m need of help again. I’ve started stripping the Xtra Wot and started with Taking the covering off the fus at the moment, and noticed the top decking which is made of fibreglass doesn’t go all the way to the fire wall. The area covering the tank is wood. Is this correct or a building error or a builders modification. Thanks Tom
  17. hi All I wrote on here a few weeks ago about obtaining an Xtra Wot kit, well I have been able to pick up a completed model. The problem I now have is that it needs a bit of TLC and recovering. As there are no drawings I’m looking for anything that gives me a clue about how to take a part and rebuild this kit. Any build blogs or instructions would be appreciated. I don’t want to reverse engineer the whole model. Thanks Tom
  18. Well I thought I would follow the website's advise and ring. Well that's a challenge on its own. Rung about 8 times, left message,s but still no contact, No email address, and the last time I saw a fax machine I was still at work. Frustrated - Weston Super Mare
  19. For some time now I have been playing with idea of building an Xtra Wot. I've Flown most of Chris,s models and not found a bad one. Anyway I have seen a few on eBay and other sites, but don't really want a plane that has been hammered by other flyers. So I thought I'd see who had the best price for this model on line. To my surprise It appears that this kit has been discontinued, so no stock about. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so I thought I'd ask on here as, I'm sure some body has the story. Thanks Tom
  20. Pushy Cat flies the same. Not hard to fly, as the saying goes, flys like its on rails, but push the revs up and you have a rocket on your hands.
  21. Hi Phil, no not yet, but I know I need to do it as the my last flying trip finished up with my Pussy Cat going in at a rate as I could not make out what way up it was. Neither of them has flown, so it should be an interesting morning when I eventually manage to make the field.
  22. Built these 2 over the winter. Both sizes of the Tucano. Edited By Tom Flynn 1 on 26/02/2018 13:57:12
  23. I meant to add, I've built both sizes over the winter, just need the weather to turn so I can fly them.
  24. Thanks to everyone for putting me on the right road. Will start building shortly.
