  2. Hi, My son and I (33 and 68 respectively) regularly fly on Local Authority parks and open grounds. Before doing so we checked the local bye laws and found that only four out of dozens had a specific ban on flying 'model' planes; one of those site now has been built on so there are now only three. Upon contacting the LA we were asked to provide evidence of how we would fly safely, a sort of Health and Safety type of question and answer. We provided proof of insurance; BMFA, as well as quoting sections from the BMFA handbook. We fly only electric power including Wot 4, Acrowot, PA Addiction X and such like models, never ic.The granting of permission to fly was then given, but of course one could fly without the permission as it was not banned by specific bye laws anyway. During the course of flying we have attracted the attention of many passers by, and several of them have been good enough to join our flying club which we promoted at every opportunity. We fly one at a time with the other on 'look out'. We have noticed that several multi copters are now using the same LA sites as us and upon polite enquiries not one has any form of insurance or heard of BMFA guidelines or has any idea of potential problems they might cause. just to let you know!
  3. Me too! Also now looking for a strip cutter for the lad, so the choice of Master also helps me. Leo, I had the use of cnc vinyl cutters, not to mention a cnc router and masses of common items such as milling machines, several sizes of bandsaw, metal turning lathes, brazing hearth, soldering station with fume extraction and a metre wide laser cutter to boot; plus a dedicated technician to help! Needless to say they all came in useful! Ah, those were the days.   Edited By MMG on 15/03/2014 22:13:11
  4. Hi Victor, let us know how you got on (or not) with your final choice. I have a feeling that it may be something that I will need to address in a few years! Edited By MMG on 24/02/2014 19:16:31
  5. I wonder if the other half would swop her steam iron for a covering iron now and then?
  6. Also works well on my iPad (fingernail and stylus) . You can pick one up in most £ stores, stylus not fingernail!
  7. Well now, What a find! Never suspected the existence of that museum, a must that will go down on my birthday list as of today.
  8. Here in Cardiff the weather is so poor that I have not seen the flying field or park for the last three weeks. At least getting some decent construction time indoors; Magnatilla, Can-Doo and eying up one or two ARTF boxed goodies, Acrowot and the son's Addiction X, even looking forward to the Club's AGM next week. Forecast for Thursday is reasonable so perhaps that's THE day! Mario
  9. Does this count? Flying with my son a couple of years ago in a large local park. He hit at full throttle the only set of rugby posts the parks department had yet to remove, removed the port wing very nicely. Didn't get stuck up the post though!
  10. Ordered the `Can-Doo power package` from 4-Max; it has arrived safe and well with a very quick turnaround. I will now wait a longer before starting the construction in order to read the `pioneers` mods and tips in this thread. Will also be interested to see what the EDF version looks like and may well have a go at that too. Have a few repairs to finish off in the meantime, plus starting the covering on my Magnatilla (Solartex).
  11. Two weeks ago I misjudged the distance of my VTail trainer as it 'cornered' around the end of the flying field. The result? Stuck in the topmost branch of a very tall beech tree! I could see it there and tried to waggle it a bit with bursts of motor (electric) in an effort to dislodge it. No result. Stuck very fast. Went away and collected the extending ladder from the garage and back to the tree. Up goes the ladder followed by my son, but sad to relate still not able to reach the branches that would have helped him scramble the rest of the way. Packed up the rest of the models plus ladder and headed off home. The following day the winds they did blow, and blow and blow even more. With more hope than expectation I returned to the field to see if the plane had maybe dropped a little lower, it hadn't, in fact it was no longer to be seen in the tree - but it was lying undamaged in the tall soft grass at its base! Who said wind is always a problem?   Edited By MMG on 28/12/2013 21:05:34
  12. Between my sons and myself, a PA Addiction, an Acrowot foam-e and a Hobbyzone Delta Ray. I am clearing the workbench for the imminent repair sessions required to keep these additions to the fleet in flying order! Plus a bag of the bits required to make a Can Doo or two and a rather nice flight case to boot! Might even get some work done on my Magnatilla between the above mentioned sessions!
  13. Dropped through the letterbox first thing this morning. Nice to have a second set of cockpit dials! A quick look through the pages showed that this edition is up well up to expected standard. Well done and keep up the good work. Mario
  14. At the club the first person up in the air determines the circuit direction and we all tend to follow like sheep, baa, baa! Mario
