  3. Posted by colin gough 1 on 06/01/2014 17:44:28: I thought it was just me, there used to be a model shop at Ashford Kent. Colin look here or here, the first one is twenty minutes and the second one 65 - 75 minutes. First rate service to all every time. Am I on the same planet as most of you, I used Avicraft until 14 years ago as it was local to me, I now use AMS but last month went into Avicraft (Mini Panic) and not one thing had changed (apart from the saw dust on the floor; gone...) total chaos service with a smile and you have to walk backwards to get out the door politely. Long live the LMS David
  4. Posted by Andrew Russell 2 on 06/01/2014 20:06:28: I may have made a bit of a mess in my workshop. Am I missing the point here. Is this not normal... David
  5. Posted by Tony Bennett on 04/01/2014 21:19:14: i can put a pencil down for 1 sec and never find it again. You think you got it tuff, I live in the garden of England we are surrounded by fields full of keys, pens, glasses, bits I only just cut, time for a clean out I think and thanks for the encouragement/moral support. David
  6. Thanks VA my thinking was the stain would not penetrate as well as I would like it to after making a joint (did I say that). I was after comments so thanks for the input, I was going to try a test rig one stained and one not, and do a destruction test in single and double sheer also splice joints weighted to breaking points. My thoughts were that I would get a deep stain/colour penetration and if the glue ran it could be cut back and sanded without showing... I think I should just get on with it Ta, after all there is always paint... Another point I was thinking of using poly (Gorilla) glue on the ladder so I could steam after or as necessary, thoughts please any one. David Ps talking of joints, me thinks time for a Jameson's as all my joint's ache...
  7. Posted by kc on 04/01/2014 20:12:36: I think many people will find that useful. Better still for this use is a draughtsmans Tee square which are probably thrown out due to CAD. KC got a good one from Ebay adjustable. Brill price too also some flexi curves (French). David
  8. Hi I am thinking of staining the fuselage wood first before building. I will use Ronseal wood (not the varnish one) stain and let all parts air dry for some time (2-3 weeks) before I start on the fuselage. Is this going to help me with C of G... Will I have problems with adhesion. I intend to seal with dope 25% X 2-3 coats sprayed on after building work, should I use 50%. Re the ladder should I first glue the stringers to the sides and then steam them before building. Ie. make the boat then add the stringers at the correctly chamfered angle, turn upside down and commence the second stage of the fuselage build (tail end). I will try technical support @ Ronseal also if I can... Thoughts please, David Thanks and HNY
  9. Nice work BEB glad I have not started yet (can't find plan). Must add note for new builders, do buy Swann Morton or X-Acto, and not the pound shop look alike X-Acto they are a hazard I know. My choice is the Swann Morton No2 with 10A blades. Housework(to find plan) then follow you ten steps behind... I will use Aliphatic through most of my build as CA is now affecting me. David
  10. Posted by cymaz on 27/12/2013 11:32:10: ARGH..............too late about not letting wives see comments I did wonder as Andrea very often looks over my shoulder as I slowly type. I came a cropper once that was enough never again. Until the next time; David

  16. Posted by Martyn K on 17/12/2013 21:53:18: If you say 'run away' then I'll probably go for a home brew CAP 21 or 232 - or perhaps the Traplet Zlin plan. Your thoughts please maestros... Martyn Edited By Martyn K on 17/12/2013 21:53:56 Run away Martyn, from those things and go with the Pitts please, so much style and I just love the lines and looks of her. Regards David
  17. Talk about crying, I went to Tesco's the other evening as they had Jameson's on offer @ 15 quid for 70cl When I asked for one the lady said they had sold out as someone had bought the lot. I found them in a shop not far away for 30 quid a bottle... two still in the bag. Did I cry no, well I did moan though.
  18. I must start playing with foam. You got me hooked Simon well done and thank you. David
  19. £ verse $. Well I log in as UK then @ checkout all turns to $, postal cost shows $ then so does total. Now that's not my gripe so what is; the blooming total cost. You have to play about with the weight what you are ordering (Lipos) etc. Not HK's fault, I hope. In my worst case, in hind sight ($70+ P&P) I could have split the cost/order. Lipo's are now PC again so all is forgiven (I blooming hope). But this will not fix the world, but hey the sky is blue/was today for a bit... David
