  1. Yes, I'm aware that's a postcode. I believe he bought it from SMC, so that would make sense. I was aware about the initials but didn't know about the he production year stamp though. Shaunie.
  2. A friend of mine bought a used Laser from a model shop recently. Perhaps you could identify it for him Jon? It's fitted with a 14x7 at the moment. Shaunie.

Just checked my entitlements on the website, most of it appears fine except that I have a full D1E (minibus with trailer, not for hire or reward) but only a provisional D1 (minibus, not for hire or reward), how can that be? I can legally drive with a trailer but not without one! My paper licence has full entitlement for both. Could be a problem as I test drive minibuses from time to time. That'll be fun getting that corrected. Shaunie.
  4. I would take great care to check the entitlements you have on your new licence before returning your old one. I have two friends who have lost their motorcycle entitlements. One doesn't ride any more so no problems for him but the other one wants to and has had a long running battle with DVLA. Even though he knows all the details of his test pass they cannot find the records and won't give it back to him. You can log into the DVLA website and check your entitlements. It appears to have happened to many people when they changed computer systems some years ago. Shaunie.
  5. I often rebuild alternators, it's remarkable how often the bearings come in useful on engines! Nevertheless I would always remove the rear seal for an engine application. The temperature on an engine will be higher and the acidic byproducts of combustion will contaminate the bearing, with seal removed the contaminants can be washed out, either by engine operation or by after run oil.   6. I would countersink the back of the prop driver where it bolts onto the motor. If you don't have a lathe put the driver in the drill chuck and turn it against a stationary countersink, it will be truer that way. Shaunie.
  7. Don't worry about steel nuts, they'll be fine unless they turn out to be stainless! Buff the surface with some wet and dry or scotchbrite first if you want to really sure. If it's a small medel then screws into the ply will be fine but anything sizeable do as you are intending. Shaunie.
  8. Hi Glyn, I suspect PatMc might be talking about unetched PCB. You can buy it from RS Components, CPC Components or probably Maplins. You want fibreglass single sided copper board. With some nuts soldered on and set up so the load is trying to pull the nut through the board it is immensely strong. Shaunie.

I have to say that I bought two 3s 2200s about 4 years ago and another 4 about 18 months ago, the originals are still fine but two of the newer ones have high resistance cells and one other shows low capacity. The labels may be the same but are the packs from the same supplier or to the same quality? Shaunie.
  11. Crossing at 45 degrees is what I believe people call a "lazy eight". Which is not what is being called for. Remember it is all a test, not just the flying and the questions. This includes your preparation and start up of the aircraft, recovery after the flight, calls for take off, simulated dead-stick and landing etc. Those pesky examiners have a nasty habit of suddenly poking their nose in line of the prop just as you are about to start up etc. Be vigilant, you are the pilot-in-charge, do not be frightened to remind an examiner of prop safety etc. and then wait until they are out of the way before continuing. They are not stupid, they want to see how you handle the situation, do not assume that "they are the examiner so it must be OK". Shaunie.
  12. Hi Chris, Sounds like you are hopelessly addicted, you could try a course of inoculations of glowfuel and Balsalok but they are rarely successful in the long term. You are most likely stuck with the affliction for life, all you can do is sit back and enjoy it. You seem to be progressing well and haven't let your first walk of shame, binbag in hand, put you off!   13. Just a reminder that of course the prop driver needs to be properly tight before flight. I saw a twin go in on takeoff when it spat the adaptor off the motor shaft, a spin ensued before the pilot identified the problem. A couple of months ago I was doing touch and goes with my foam-e Wot4, I powered up and it spat the prop adaptor of the motor while it was on the ground and rolled to a stop. I'll often run the motor with no adaptor on it and touch the spindle with a bit of wet and dry to take the shine off. Shaunie.

  15. I was once criticised on an appraisal "you don't suffer fools gladly", my reply that "I would rather not suffer fools at all" backed up by " there should be no fools in the department, if they are a fool we should not employ them" went down like lead balloon. Shaunie.
  16. I was amazed a few years ago to find that CPC Components had a table on their website give rated capacities of all their dry battery products, Duracell, Energiser, GP etc. Went back to find it later with no luck. Shaunie.
  17. Hi Liam, It is normal convention to fit these motor mounts on an X formation rather than a + formation, simply to make adjusting downthrust or sidethrust with washers easier. It also means the motor wires will come through the bulkhead at the top or the bottom rather than a corner. Not that there is anything wrong with your layout, it's just that its not so easy to adjust. Fit T-nuts from inside the bulkhead facing out **LINK** Shaunie.
