  1. I think that "Aeromodeller" even got a mention in one of those Avengers episodes.

I've looked on the EASA site and can't find the reference. Do you have a link please? I think this nis the document you want:- http://easa.europa.eu/system/files/dfu/A-NPA%202015-10.pdf Dick Edited By Dickw on 13/02/2016 14:44:25 Thanks for the link. I had seen that doc but it doesn't rule out registration completely and I think that the authorities will see this as just too good a chance to miss and the requirement for registration in some form will become Europe, if not World, wide. None of this will however have any effect whatsoever on the criminal or ill informed flyers.
  3. Posted by Electric God on 11/02/2016 15:12:49: Maybe if you read the EASA consultation document you will see they have already commented on the concept of a registration scheme and dismissed it as a waste of time and counter productive . This is very interesting as I understood that the push for registration was coming from EASA.. I've looked on the EASA site and can't find the reference. Do you have a link please?
  4. Ok Daithi, I have to conceed that the Piston Provost isn't a warbird, but the Jet Provost is a very pretty aeroplane.
  5. I'm still firmly ABAW, and the Provost is borderline. (Anything But A Warbird)
  6. Did the parents of those 400 boys not sue the school immediately for their exposure to potentially dangerous fumes.
  7. Anyone remember the free gifts that used to come with RC mags?
  8. I remember that issue of Practical Mechanics with the Luton Minor very well, I think it was 1957. I had it safe until relatively recently when it just disappeared. I think the same issue described how to make a lathe using bicycle wheel hubs for the head and tailstock. Since the "Eagle" has already been mentioned, "Luck of the Legion" with Corporal Trenet and Private Bimberg. I still have a lot of the excellent cutaway drawings hidden away somewhere, I hope they haven't gone the way of Practical Mechanics, which were usually masterpieces.
  9. .................not forgetting the comic character that inspired many of us into the world of R/C - General Jumbo!! If you're under fifty - don't ask I've been trying to remember his name all afternoon!!
  10. I just ran your numbers through my home brew electric flight calculator and it suggests a 900 to 1200 kv motor, 9" to 11" prop and a 30A ESC.
  11. Posted by Percy Verance on 30/01/2016 09:41:18: Well some certainly did Masher. It wasn't unusual to see shirts & ties, or the occasional pair of bulled up shoes. I guess it depends on how much of a social *thing* you consider a trip to the flying field to be? It doesn't seem quite as commonplace these days though........ Just look at what people turn up wearing to work, interviews or on TV!! Sorry showing my age...
  12. Thanks jeff2wings. If I'd had that article back in '85 my Cessna might have flown better!
  13. The new regulations from the IAA, which are based on those of he EASA and the FAA, specifically state that; " model aircraft and drones are both considered small unmanned aircraft and the same rules apply to their operation". This is the first time that that distinction has been made. None of these regulation will have any effect on the activities of the uninformed or irresponsible flyers.
  14. Jet Provost MMMmmmmmmm! Druine Turbulent Tipsy Junior. The DH84 Dragon would solve the problem of the pointed wings.
  15. Posted by kc on 24/01/2016 13:59:38: Fun Flyer. I have sent you a PM with details of the RM Oct 75 for sale. Thanks kc. Copy ordered. I may have to build it now!!
  16. Fascinating project, I've been meaning to have a go at this for years. Take a look here for example: **LINK**
  17. I built the Eric Fearnley Cessna back in the mid 80s. It wasn't very successful mainly I think because my build may have been a bit heavy and also I don't think I got the dihedral correct. I could never get may hands on the magazine article either. The carcass still languishes in the attic. I've always had a liking for the 150/172 and I recently bought the plan for a 74" Skyhawk designed by Arthur Warner which appeared in the October 1975 issue of Radio Modeller, another article which I don't have. CAP (Complete A Pac) did a short kit for a 72" 172 which flew very well for one of my clubmates.
  18. Hi Phil, sent you a PM.
  19. Personally I would like to see an Autumn Special plan that isn't a warbird for a change. There are so many possibilities.... 1). DH Dragon or even a Rapide 2). Cessna 150 or 172 3). Shorts Skyvan or 330. Please!!
  20. Many thanks Phil, that covers it.
  21. Can anyone tell me if its possible to use a Dx5 as a Buddy Box with a Dx6? Our club has a spare Dx5 and we have a new member who has a Dx6 and we'd hope to use the Dx5 for training.
  22. That message has been displayed for a very long time so I would think that forum is no more. There was never a lot of activity on it when it was working anyway.
  23. Just to whet your appetite further, I've just heard that the penalty for flying an unregistered model aircraft will be a 27,500 euro fine.
  24. The real problem is; they're missing the point. Drones are Remotely Controlled Flying Machines. We've been flying them without any problems since <insert name here I don't want to offend anyone> stood in a field with his finger on the button and watched his balsa and tissue drone fly a semi controlled circuit. What they seem to want to regulate, and I for one am not convinced that regulation is necessary for the hobbist, are multicopters. Unfortunately the regulations now state clearly that "model aircraft and drones are considered small unmanned aircraft and the same rules apply to their operation" Note also that just says so it covers everything from your FF glider to an F3A machine and beyond. I'm afraid that this might have serious consequences for the hobby. You guys should bring this to the BMFA before the CAA can put something similar in place.
  25. We've just been hit over here and it includes all Model Aircraft over 1kg. Irish Aviation Authority. A totally useless and unenforceable piece of legislation.
