It doesn't look too bad in the pics, but believe me it looks way worse in the flesh so to speak

It's actually me who has the problem, and the model is a new one this year, never flown and was stored in a room in the house with the curtains closed all the time, so not a brilliant advert for a very expensive model that is designed to fly outdoors. I have several foamies stored in the same room and none of the others have been effected, I suspect some coating on the foam has been applied and it is that that is turning.

Modellers aspirations
Dylan Reynolds LaserCraft Services replied to Glyn44's topic in All Things Model Flying
The mountain of used spares is inevitable, it will come. My main problem is I look at mine and think what can I build out of that? I come up with an idea, but before it is finished I have moved onto something else, so I suppose my main aspiration is to actually finish something that I have designed -
Reduce the O/A weight immediately by 25%, use 3mm ply not 4mm, plenty of strength if using birch. Liteply is flexible and not very crush resistant, poplar ply is stronger than light ply, but not as strong as birch, but is lighter than birch. Strength can be built in where it is needed, as can lightness, if you use a vertical crutch with formers and stringers, skin with 2 or 2.4mm and glass cloth, this will build in strength but is lighter than wood itself. So much so, that usually the inner structure almost becomes redundant

Encouragement !
Dylan Reynolds LaserCraft Services replied to Glyn44's topic in All Things Model Flying
Whilst learning to fly, one week I was passed over to another instructor as my regular one was away on holiday. We had a brilliant 7 or 8 min flight, but on final approach for landing at about 6 ft high, the model just seemed to get sucked straight down and into the rough just short of the strip, with no sign of stall or any other failure. The comment from the instructor whilst patting me on the back was "Your did perfectly, right up until you crashed, next time don't crash" and walked away! The following week, with my original instructor, I passed my A without even knowing I was taking it, until back in the pits I was bombarded with the dreaded 10 questions -
bit big for cylinders, unless you're upto about 1/3 scale lol, they are varying from 30 - 60mm dia

I have more offcuts than full sheet, I keep everything just incase, but sometimes you just gotta say "I need to make a pathway through to the living room" This is just one box, 12x24x8" full of ply circles, there is nearly 1500 of em Edited By Dylan Reynolds LaserCraft Services on 03/01/2016 17:44:35

Ebay sellers...
Dylan Reynolds LaserCraft Services replied to Steve Hargreaves - Moderator's topic in eBay Watchers
Really Geoff? thats a new one on me!! my usual excuse for not buying is "the wife is gonna batter 7 colours of...." you get the idea -
If the discolouration (spelling?) is just on the Golden Brown colour it shouldn't be a problem, if it is any darker than this then yes it will need sanding, as the laser would have been travelling too slowly and scorched the wood and sealed the surface in effect, but if it is just the golden colour then all should be fine as the surface hasn't been sealed and glue penetration should still be good. I have seen both the Pup and the SE5a by DB and neither showed any signs of scorching and went together perfectly. I don't know the Tiggie kits by him, but would guess they are just as good and worth every penny.
