  1. Dave, unfortunately the build of the Nimrod hasn't even started yet. Life has got in the way. The parts are all there, patiently waiting for me to put them together but I'm afraid it'll have to wait. Edited By Craig Kane on 10/12/2018 06:34:13
  2. Guys, is it possible to link a 9XD (master) to a Turnigy 9XR Pro (slave) via a buddy-box lead? Both Tx's are running the same version of Open Tx 2.1. I can't seem to make it work at all. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Finished and test flown!   https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2904450-Sky-Mule-conversion#post37820480 Edited By Craig Kane on 30/06/2017 14:09:53
  4. Thought you might like to see the progress I'm making with a conversion to my Skymule **LINK** Edited By Craig Kane on 20/06/2017 16:18:14
  5. Hi guys, Fantastic models.   Found this post as I was doing some research for my Nimrod project (Chris Golds plan). The model will be 86" wingspan and come out around 7lbs in weight. It calls for 4x Speed 400 motors driving 5" props.   From experience, I have found that 2826/6 2200KV motors on 6x4 props give about 270w on 3s. Do you think that 4 of these would be enough?   Edited By Craig Kane on 24/02/2017 10:43:10
  6. Posted by Denis Watkins on 18/02/2017 08:09:11: You are starting to annoy me now Craig lol A Nimrod build bigger than anything I can imagine With retracts worth more than my model And a strip to die for at Bangor You must have been born under a star Good Luck my friend, keep us posted We are quite fortunate. :D This is one of those models that I've always dreamed of building. We used to fly from a grass strip so there was no chance of me even attempting to build it. I've decided to take full advantage of the fact that we have a proper runway and spend the money on some "proper" models.
  7. Our runways are quite good.. https://youtu.be/tlOYoZvaKkE
  8. Thanks folks. They are the best looking ones and the addition of brakes is very useful. The wheels are slightly too large (according to the plans) but I'm ex Nimrod groundcrew and I know that the mains are a good bit larger than the elsewhere.
  9. Hi folks, I'm starting to build the Chris Golds 86" Nimrod and have a question about the undercarriage. I want to use these as they are the closest to scale: **LINK** but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives? I thought about using air retracts instead of electric but have no idea where to start looking. Any help would be appreciated. Craig

Got told about this today from a fellow flier. From what he said, it's a very good bit of kit. Going to try it out now. Thanks in advance
  11. I had a similar problem with fitting my module. I took the module apart and made sure that the pins on the X9D fitted correctly by offering the (opened) module up to it. Once I got it to fit correctly I built it back up and it now works perfectly.
  12. Fantastic. Looks great on the ground and has such a presence in the air. Well done indeed
  13. I have repeatedly emailed over the last few months but never had a reply. It's a shame because they have some really good models. Looks like I'll have to scrap the latest project idea, unless anyone knows of an alternative source for a Canberra or Meteor?
  14. I found this today in Maplin. **LINK** Excellent adhesion and no melting of the foam. Product code: N66AN £4.49 for 500ml
  15. Chris, you are brilliant!   As some others had found out in that forum, I had assigned the wrong driver to Taranis. A simple delete of the device and reconnection sorted it out.   Thanks so much for your help Edited By Craig Kane on 04/08/2014 13:35:48
  16. Tried several reboots and re-running Zadig - no change. I'm running bootloader 2.0.8
  17. Hi Chris, I don't get the drives showing up. The sound plays for a USB device being connected but nothing else happens on the computer. I've tried all available USB ports too - same thing. All ports are USB2.
  18. Can anyone help? I've downloaded Zadig and installed the STM Bootloader driver and I'm able to update the firmware but can't get past this screen when trying to read the models from the tx.   The radio displays USB CONNECTED and it shows as TARANIS MASS STORAGE on my devices list.     I've tried uninstalling Companion but still no joy. Running Win7 and I have Companion 2.0.8 installed.
  19. Posted by Chris Bott - Moderator on 02/08/2014 17:31:37: This is absolutely the right place to ask for help Craig, we're a friendly bunch here, always willing to help out. One of the harder things with Taranis seems to be getting it to talk to the PC. It's nearly always a USB driver issue. To this end, a little help utility is provided. Have a look here and download Zadig. That should help get you connected. For firmware updating, you should connect the Tx to PC with the Tx turned off and leave it turned off. For copying models to and from PC, there are two ways, and how you go about connecting depends on the firmware version you're on. I'd suggest updating the firmware to 2.0.8, then come back here to ask if you need to. Thanks Chris. I had a look through the other threads as suggested but thought I would ask a few genera queries on here. I'd already downloaded the Zadig file but I guess I haven't set something up correctly. I'll go back and check again.
  20. I've just taken delivery of my Taranis and I'm very impressed with its quality. I wanted to get away from my DX6i after too many "unexplained" incidents with models losing settings, RF failures and just a lack of functionality. I'd considered going for the new Spektrum DX6 but the Taranis looked like it would do more than I would ever need and I'd be hard pushed to run out of channels so in the long run, a better investment. I've also bought an Orange DSM2/DSMX module so that I can still fly all my existing models whilst i gradually replace the rx's with FrSky. Has anyone found any problems using the modules? I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the settings to copy from Companion to the Tx. I spent some time setting up each model and went to write to the tx it came up with a BAD EEPROM message and reverted to factory settings. I looked this up and it would appear that it's an issue for Win7 users (?) I've updated the driver as suggested but now it won't seem to "see" the tx when connected. If anyone could shed some light?
  21. The 9x5x3 props were useless. The aircraft had no power whatsoever. It flew, but it wallowed around the sky. The 10x8x3 were better, good performance throughout. Unfortunately, a stone on the runway shattered a blade on one of them, so it was back to the drawing board. I fitted a pair of 2-bade 10x7 Master Airscrews and this has made a huge improvement to the flying. Plenty of power and a lot more robust than the plastic props. Next job is to replace the undercarriage with electric retracts.
  22. Update on my progress with this model: I've replaced the original motor with a Turnigy D2836/9 950KV, keeping the original prop. The shaft on this motor is 4mm which meant that the original prop adaptor didn't fit so I had to drill out the hole on both the spinner and the prop hub to accept the larger diameter shaft that came with the new motor. This setup delivered 242W at 24A pk which proved too much for the supplied 20A speed controller so this was replaced with a spare I had lying around.   Flight testing showed a huge increase in performance with more than enough power to get airborne. I can now actually throttle back to 1/2 power and still maintain flight. The model is still a little tail heavy but that's due to the construction and I can live with it. Flight time on a Kypom 3s 1300mah 25C is in the region of 6 mins (which leaves me with 20% left in the battery).   I've had a lot of hassle with this model and although I wouldn't buy another, I'm happy that I've managed to get it to a position where I can get flying it at last. 23. I've managed to source some alternative props. I ordered some GWS 9x5x3 (in both rotations) from eBay and in the meantime, I'm trying the prop from the Hobbyking autogyro (10x8x3) although I've had to reverse one of the motors as these aren't handed props. I looked at Robotbirds and some other mainland suppliers, but found the p&p charges to Northern Ireland to be extortionate and it meant that it wasn't cost-effective to spend £3 on a prop only to have to pay £16 in postage! Waiting for calmer winds to get an air test done.
