  1. Hopefully a lot now that the evenings are lighter! David, where in Kent do you fly from? Cheers Rich
  2. Hi Phil, I have the same dilema trying to find an engine for my Goldberg Ultimate. Zenoah is obviously too heavy (I have two already), my first choice would be an OS GT 22 - too expensive, so second choice is the DLE 20. I have located them (rear carb version?) for £150 delivered if you're interested.....Rich
  3. I generally like the reviews but Alex Whittakers contributions are my favourites (no mention of him yet?). Just comes across as real modelling - at least as i know it. I've been modelling for 35 years but still learn from him! Although I was not too impressed by the pinless building (that was him?) - sorry! I also love the innovative stuff like converting glow to petrol - but given the amount of petrol engines available is it really that relevant? Generally, I still love the mag after 35 plus years, what else is there?! Yes, I agree with the previous post, often there is a review that mentions a gem of an engine (last issue mentioned an OS GT 33 in a model review?) with no pics of engine or installation?! 4. You have to love technology, something works perfectly fine but you have to update the software anyway. Our JEEP broke down and went into limp mode, it would not drive over 30 mph - the solution? Nothing more than a software upgrade - and a bill for £170. Call me synical but we had not had the servicing done by JEEP for a year or so........ Edited By Dickster on 15/04/2013 20:18:51 Edited By Dickster on 15/04/2013 20:19:53
  5. I used to fly a glider off a bungie (30 yrs ago) and sometimes when it was really blowing the tow up the bungie would bend the wing joiner and the model would return to terra firma with a lot of dihedral!! I am thoping that Thursday evening is going to be calm - fingers crossed, as i'm not the most patient person!
  6. Haha! Thanks. Yes, I normally fly in any weather - dont want to risk this one though. Gusts are forcast at 37mph so its probably safest not to try it, at least the evenings are getting lighter so I'll look for a suitable window....Rich
  7. A slightly different twist on this old question - when is it too windy to maiden a model? Ordinarily I'll fly in anything, including maidens. However, having just finished my first largish petrol model (Pulse 125 with Zenoah 23) I am reluctant to maiden it today. I know if I go to the field I will not return without trying to fly it.. Rich ps forcast around here is a 17mph South Westerly (although bbc site says it is currently 21mph) Edited By Dickster on 14/04/2013 13:18:24
  8. Confirmed, I have the pinch bolt behind the carb - mk I. Send me your details in a PM. Rich
  9. Hi Paul, I'll have a look at that tomorrow and let you know....Rich
  10. How do I tell, it was supplied by Just Engines, spec sheet dated January 1999. Rich ps I say nib as it never been run, only just installed in an (unfinished) airframe. Edited By Dickster on 13/04/2013 18:57:37
  11. Hi Ken, yes that was the perfect combination I understand back in the day! However, now that the weight of 20cc petrol are more in line with glow motors, they are just as practical? Cheers Rich
  12. No other posts on this Classic? I bought one of the last kits and I am planning on using a 20cc petrol, just wondering whether anyone has gone the same route?
  13. No comments on this?! Is anyone still flying one? I went with the Zenoah 23 and it is now ready to maiden tomorrow - weather permitting.
  14. Great thread, I've got a 50" Veron Tiger Moth in the loft that I built nearly 30 years ago - it needs a cowl, does anyone know of any suppliers? Rich
  15. I am sorry that you had a mishap - what servos were recommended for that model? You are entitled to your opnion but it is just that - your opinion. And for your information I always use the manufacturer recomended servos (and in this case I was thinking of a certain well known Scottish supplier). If you did not use the recommended servos, is that not reckless behaviour on your part? ps some nice models you have there     Edited By Dickster on 13/11/2012 08:42:38
  16. Somewhere between competent and good. Just practicing aerobatics now, slow rolls, inverted, and I am determined to master prop hanging (and a rolling circle)!   Rich Edited By Dickster on 23/08/2012 19:04:47
  17. I know I should try and get hold of a DTI to be sure. Mal, thanks, i have inspected the prop but I will look at that also. Rich
  18. I did it, spun two of the adpaters in a drill slowly and they are both clearly out of true. What causes this - perhaps the prop? i'll have to ream another and try that. any problem with running it with just the tip of the adapter and spinner out? as i said there are no vibrations. Rich
  19. and there is only very limited space between the body of the motor that spins and the back plate - so if the shaft was bent it would show up here? Rich
  20. mmm, it is a little odd for all three to be out. and i ran the motor in another plane without problems until the crash. hence why i thought the shaft was bent. i will try turning the adapter in a drill (slowly) to see if it looks out..... I also thought that maybe the adapter wasnt seating well on the motor..although there's no sign of vibration through the airframe which suggests the prop is running true and only the tip of the adapter out of true. Rich
  21. understood jc, i think in that case i would know if it was badly out of balance - hence this thread. Rich
  22. can you still buy bungees for gliders? i havent seen them advertised for years. myself and a mate had a couple of gliders, and the surgical tubing bungee (they were the best) and learned to fly that way. launch the glider on the bungee, so you didnt have to worry about take off - just keep it straight. and then you learned to fly on the way down. siure we had plenty of mishaps, but it was a great way to learn and progress onto a ripmax trainer - which by the way was impossible to learn on (i tried!!).. Rich
  23. two clear sides on this one, club members and non club members! i can perhaps understand clubs imposing the test, but i would hate to see the bmfa introduce compulsory testing. i dont believe that it makes you a better pilot (it may help), experience and practice does that. some drivers have passed their tests but they're still rubbish drivers! also, interesting point Daithi, because with the advent of the small park flyers there must surely be many more non club flyers than there used to be? i wonder what the percentage is of bmfa insured flyers to non insured flyers? we'll never get agreement on the tests though Rich
  24. thanks for all the input, and i still have the problem! all three adapters now seem to be out of true. the new one seemed ok until i put a prop on it and i can only think the thread has distorted with the tightening of the nut? the prop did move initially so i had to nip the nut up a bit more - which seemed to make the distortion worse. i guess i should try without the prop again to see if its straight or not.. Mark, i'm the same, never found the need to balance props! Rich
