On the plans website you mentioned ,a good depron model to build is the Polaris....you can print off the pdf in A4 format and join the pages together....cheap...dead easy to do and the plans free too....Oh and the Polaris power train is cheap as chips as well. Oh also roy..theres a printers in wickford that will print bigger than AO size if needed. vince Edited By Fats Flyer on 27/07/2012 15:42:36 do you know Benfleet YC? I used to watch planes flying in a field next to the club when I was a teenager - 30 years ago!! I wonder if they still fly there.... Rich
  2. this appears to search only titles? is possible to search all text in threads? Rich
  3. I had one of those "Dumb and dumber - we landed on the moon" moments, as I was looking up Hanno Prettner and the TOC and discovered that the TOC finished in 2002!!! Doh! Me and a friend had always dreamed of going to Vegas to watch them. Just glad I got to see the man fly at Sandown. 4. Great video. Do what the boys did and stick some foam packing in there and hand launch the thing! Rich
  5. Posted by Mark Powell 2 on 16/08/2012 07:58:20: Futaba's Fasst systems (very likely to be obsolete soon) - Ripmax have stated that all future transmitters will support FHSS and S-FHSS, so it looks like they may not support FASST) Really? That's inconvenient Rich
  6. Posted by NigelH on 16/08/2012 09:32:18: A lone flyer should stick to 35MHz ? Very bad advice. When I started flying (self-taught) I used my Futaba 6EXA 35Mhz TX not knowing that there was a club not that far away. That was quite a while ago before I got involved with the BMFA, the club, etc. If you cannot be 100% sure that there will be nobody else nearby with a 35MHz TX, 2.4GHz is more than likely the best option. Took the words out of my mouth. I am a lone flyer and had that experience - 2.4 is a godsend. I agree with other posters, given how cheap mainstream equipment is I would ditch it and buy a "brand". jmho. Rich
  7. I would try hand launching it then. It should fly with the Wot4 wing. I have an old trainer (20 plus year old Hi Boy) that weighs a ton and I wouldn't expect it to take off from the ground. I always hand launch it and in high winds it flys great. Go for it!! Rich
  8. Haha! Its ridiculous Mark, but not unusual. Spill the beans on the supplier on this site? I wonder if its the one i tried..... Rich
  9. DLE20 would be my choice. I have always flown glow (cost) but i am moving to petrol and electric purely because glows are so damn messy and i am lazy!   Rich ps you dont need metal geared servos for all petrol models   Edited By Dickster on 15/08/2012 20:19:23
  10. Lovely build and a steal for that money. Rich
  11. Hahaha! some excellent tales that have cheered me up no end. and these stories are not surprising are they? I have to say that i use the internet ALOT for buying stuff as I generally hate shopping (not at model shops of course!), and I rarely come across these problems elsewhere. Theres just no excuse for it these days. The good news is that i got the Pulse I was after - lovely, can't wait to get that flying with the 23 Zenoah - and if only my lms instead of just saying we havent got any so cant help, they could have recommended an alternative..their loss. Cheers Rich
  12. Check out the video here **LINK** The Easy Star will land itself! Rich
  13. Another vote for the Easy Star (I have one and the Wot4 foam e). It is rather gutless in std trim, but buy the brushless setup and it will be transformed - it'll fly in most conditions. Rich
  14. Yes, I do try (TJD Models) but whilst they are friendly enough when we go in, I find their service a bit hit and miss. and I feel like they do not take me seriously. My wife has also bought stuff for me and says that she doesnt find them very helpful. 15. Posted by ken anderson. on 05/08/2012 09:13:08: thursday at our club site....nice day..warm,sunny and hardly any wind.....one of members using a waist high model stand.....starting a '35' 2 stroke..bent down to pick up his TX......it either fell forward or his lost hold of it.....full throttle-the model hit his right forearm and ripped it all open.......result he lost a pint of blood according to the A/E dept......stitches inside and out+ an X ray....me covered in blood as we tried to bandage him up--while we waited for an ambulance........he was in hospital until 21.00....take care everyone..... ken anderson ne..1 ....... accident dept.. very sorry to hear that, and wish him a speedy recovery. what stand was he using? did the model come away from the stand? some of us chose not to join clubs and are lone flyers - just take care. 16. Posted by Mark Powell 2 on 07/08/2012 14:25:12: In my last response I was trying to be positive. As I said, I have two ARTFs , a Great Planes Little Tony (Cosmic Wind pylon racer for a 90) and a Graupner BO209 (much like a Cherokee) and am perfectly happy with them. No doubt I will buy more. The 'anti-helicopter' guy I talked about has a Black Horse 120 size Chipmunk, with a Lazer 150, that flies so well and realistically that I am very tempted to get one. My E-Flite Habu EDF is not exactly an ARTF, but is close to being one. From my observations at Beaulieu, Hampshire, the only place I fly, I find most people have a mixture of home-built and ARTFs, as do I. But I do observe that some of the ARTF only guys seem to vanish after a year or so. That's just my observation of only one site. I think the fascination of bulding from scratch may keep people in the hobby. It is amazing the interest there is when someone comes along with a home-built or kit aircraft, even something relatively 'ordinary' such as a Topfite Cessna 182. Just had to add - I'm a traditional builder from the 80's, but now i'm older with a job and a family I have less time for building - i've got kits over ten years old waiting to be built!! Don't forget the ARTF's and foamies have also made the hobby a lot more accessible. Rich
  17. Just to add, the Wot 4 foam e is hard to beat. I dont like the look of it (I have one) and the fact that it is foam, but if you ignore that it does everything you want. And its a tough plane. its a nice size - I've never taken the wings off mine! I'd be temp[ted by the Acro Wot too. Good luck. Rich
  18. Mine has been spot on from day one - apart from the weak u/c which i removed. I'd take it back.
  19. Posted by glyn grist on 15/07/2012 21:14:15: Hi TC, TBH I'm pretty new to planes, only been flying about seven or eight months, got most of my airtime flying helis and now can throw the PZ foamies all over the sky, also fly the Nigel hawes Tucano, 39", both of impecable manners. Thought I would give this thing a try for a bit of 'sport' style flying. Now I've heard of tip stall but not sure what it is TBH but this plane just gave no indication it would drop it's nose so drastically when slow flying, had 4/5 flights and did experience it whilst high aloft and took an age to recover, just refused to glide, had been running with c/g too far forward but on it's final run was set to specs' and now it's been despatched to the bin so will never know. Actually broke my heart to bin it, nothing to do with the $, more a personal goal and pride dented. Thanks for the heads up garbo and Chris..........G I'm no expert but i converted a vmar extra to electric (never flown an extra) and although on the maiden it flew very well, it just went where you pointed it, on the landing approach it just tip stalled and flew very quickly into the ground - totalled. It stalled during the turn in to final approach. In hindsight i should have powered it through the turn, as I have read that these types of planes have to be flown all the time. I'm sure i've also read that they like to be powered all the way in on landing - sounds like they do not glide at all!
  20. Get something like the Wot4 foam e. Soooo, convenient to use. Fits in the car assembled. I got gome stressed tonight, and was out the door and flying in 10 mins. 20 mins and back home.... Or make something for storage to carry the models in. When i was at school i made up a carrier that i used with a fishing box on wheels. It made it much easier to transport. Just try and adapt...
  21. Its basic really and poor when they don't. I tried my local model shop (they were showing stock of a Pulse 125) to see if they would match an online price. Via email they answered the request by stating that they had none in stock and couldnt get any. So I ordered online elsewhere. Now i just received a phone call saying sorry, we're out of stock and we can't get any. So thats two websites showing stock that dont actually have any. Very poor. Meanwhile I've been looking forward to my b'day present since Sunday. Not happy.   ps btw the model is discontinued - hopefully I have secured the last one from yet another store.     Edited By Dickster on 25/07/2012 15:29:28 Edited By Dickster on 25/07/2012 15:29:53 Edited By Dickster on 25/07/2012 15:31:05
  22. Is it a single piano wire? Try a double....? Or steerable. I've got a Hi Boy, it does fly like a brick (likes a bit of a breeze), but its still going string after all these years! Might try an Irvine 53 in it ..... For me the original Ripmax Trainer was the best, all built up. And btw rather than build two wings - just disconnect the aileron servos for training on rudder only!
  23. Nice! and btw the Tiger Moth is a great model, it flies like a trainer.
