  1. Hi, I think there was a thread about this a few days ago - **LINK** Edited By David Ashby - RCME on 22/02/2013 19:19:04
  2. Yeh, don't think it was just you. I even tried swapping from my phone to the iPad.
  3. Hi Jeff, Certainly built light! - I think there is an EP conversion too... I like the idea of that so I might just be tempted myself. Dont tell the wife tho - "I swear dear - I have had that for years - Didnt you notice it before?" Phill
  4. Although I like to fly anything I can get my hands on, and own pretty much somthing from each category I prefer mid range sports jobbys.
  5. RC Heli Guru - same model now at £119 - I should have waited!
  6. I have had a look around to see if there is already a thread about this and couldn't see one but mods please move if you need to. I thought it would be nice to make others aware of good deals you may come across. I have just found that Kings Lynn are doing a Blade 450 3d bnf for £130. P
  7. Hi, just a quick footnote to that BEB - the way manufacture works in my industry I would imagine is very similar to that of the modelling world. Although some companies own their own factories in China most don't. In the case of safety footwear it is all dictated by the larger markets - ie USA. A large US company will place an order for a style of boot with a factory in China. That factory is not big enough to cope with the large order and enlist the help of other smaller factries. Each factory gets a copy of the pattern and produce a proportion of the order. Now each of the factories have the pattern set up they will sell to smaller markets - ie UK etc. Each UK importer will have their version of the boot branded with their name but it is essentially the same thing. Each UK importer may order from different factories but get more or less the same product. We see a massive difference in the wholesale price of these items - sometimes as much as £5 per pair (on a retail price of £30) P
  8. Hi, I think it would be a good idea to have a set of "perfect" flight vids of different aerobatics (showing the tick movements too) as a kind of training aid or just to show off. Does anyone have any Phoenix recordings they wanted to share? and is there a way of sharing/creating a download area on here? What's your thoughts? P
  9. My thoughts: I think it depends on what you are looking to get out of the hobby. This depends a great deal on what stage of evolution the hobby is in when you enter. My father enjoys building much more than flying and is much less interested in the finer details of configuring the radio/esc's etc. I however have never considered myself to be a modeller - more a flyer - which works well as Dad can build and I can crash - erm - I mean fly, what he builds. I do think that in many industries and hobbies "progress" often means "simpler for the user" or "more automated" - as well as in the case of modelling, stronger, lighter and as a result cheaper. I don't think it matters how much more complicated the kit becomes, there will always be someone able to fathom it out. I love the advances in electric flight as these mean I can often get out and fly more often with less prep and clean up to do. Although I fondly look back on my days with IC and will hopefully never be without one. I agree that modelling is a evolving beastie that, as with everything, moves with the times and pushes technology in the direction that the modellers want it to go. There would be no development in gizmos if people were not buying them. I can forsee a new class of competion modelling based on a pre-programmed routine all run from a laptop, ipad or similar. I for one wont be heading down that route totally as I prefer to measure my skill level at stirring the sticks and not at how well I can calculate a set of three dimensional co-ordinates but I dare say my 7 year old will happily take to the digital sticks when he is able to and I am certain that his routine will be neater and smoother than mine could ever be. I could go on for hours but I think that would have everyone asleep so for the time being I will go back to work and ponder this for a while longer. P
  10. Hi Ben - I have only had 1 battery thru it so far. I need to increase the rates to make it do the serious stuff. I will have to watch out for the servo mounts then. I may just have to put some extra strip in myself before going over the top with it. They are definatly built with as little material left as possible. I cant see a single place where they could loose any more weight. I will keep you posted. Happy flighting! P
  11. Posted by flytilbroke on 08/02/2013 16:59:24: I have to agree with Ian Heath and many others. Imagine buying a car (system) and the dealers disclaiming no responsibility for it not having wheels. The retailer and the Wholesaler are "dealers", the Wholesalers in particular have the clout to say that the supplied goods must match the instuctions supplied with them. I am also a customer who bought the same item although from a different retailer, my oppinion did not count for much then either. Old saying, customer beware. I am sure somewhere in the manual for the car it will state it needs fuel to make it go. Last time I bought a new car it was supplied with a little less than a dribble of fuel in. Customer beware - good saying - I must remember that P
  12. Posted by Greybeard on 08/02/2013 16:50:30: Posted by Phill Emerson on 08/02/2013 16:37:27: Personally I agree with Ben B that BM and Ripmax are just selling on a product. They dont control the contents of the package and if it is not listed you probably won't get it. - I agree the description is a little vague in this regard. Having said that - I agree the nuts should probably be included as an integral part of the "system". As a retailer I know what I would have done to keep the customer happy - I would have supplied the pack of nuts at the full retail price but offered free postage. Just my thoughts. P They may be "just selling on a product" but they have a duty to ensure that it is fif for purpose; and clearly it is not as supplied. It's an example of buck-passing at it's worst. Buck passing - possibly. There are distance selling rules that would allow the items to be returned if they are not what the customer expects (I encounter this almost weekly at work) and in order to keep harmony and good customer relations (our entire business is based on word of mouth and a good reputation) we accept any item - no questions asked - often even if they are not in their original packaging or still with tags etc. I would like to know what BM would say if Ian asked to return them sighting they are not suitable for the job they were intended for. P

  14. Just a quick update - just given this model its maiden flight and it flew very nicely. There was a steady light breeze. Needed a fair few clicks of up elevator as it wanted to dive constantly. I will put a little more weight on the tail and see if the cures it but other than that it was very well mannered. I only had time for 1 battery for which I got around 9 minutes and when checked the pack was around 50% still. The OS motor gave it plenty of punch and it took off at just over 1/2 throttle with no issues at all. I am going to increase the rates on the rudder and ailerons from the suggested levels a little as knife edge was not possible and the roll rate was a little slow but there was plenty of elevator. I will post again after a few more flights and fine tuning. P
  15. Ben, yes, i was amazed at how light it was even with lipo. I bet it will take off at 1/3 throttle. That OS motor is superb quality too. Bring on the good weather.
  16. OK - I suppose thats the best way to go about it. I am building my skills and experiance at the mo with the Tucano but I think I may just need to be much better than I am for my ideas. Best of luck with it... any build pics?
  17. Hi Tony - thanks - how did you decide on the model to build? was it one that you both wanted or was it a case of short list they type/style of model then vote? Is the other chap local to you/part of your club etc? I really fancy a large Victor - I bought some plans for a glider version I hope to adapt to accept 2 x EDF's - the chap who is chairman of our local club (and my ex-boss) has a laser cutter so I will draw it up in AutoCad for him to cut for me. I can print/cut any decals etc on my sign making equipment. I have someone who has a lot more experiance than me at building and much more time. I suppose I would just fund (or mostly fund) the build and then do most of the flying. I intend this year to do my A and B certs and then prehaps a bit of show flying - my club has scale days. I eventually want to get to giant scale for LMA stuff.
  18. Hi, Just thought I would post a couple of pics of my 3DHS Extra (47" with a OS 3820 Brushless Motor and Energ Pro 60 ESC) I have left the spats off for the time being as I fly off grass. Looking forward to maidening but the motor seems to give a lot of pull....
