  1. Posted by Shaunie on 23/12/2013 21:07:12: Hi Simon, I'm only a few miles away from you in Cowden . Luckily my planes are kept at work, I've just had a dirty great Horse Chestnut fall right across the garden this evening. I'd have had no shed left! It's over four feet across at the base, going to take some moving. With the shed, can you slip some beams right underneath (just read Daz's post, scaffold poles would be good) and lift it one end at a time with a trolley jack? Shaunie. Put that horse chestnut on ebay and some woodturner will snap it it and pay you whilst taking it away at the same time
  2. I met Peter on many occasions back in the 70s when i started modeling and would be a frequent visitor to his shop on Ryton Street Worksop, he was always willing to give advice to new modellers . The shop was always full of stock and customers but i cannot remember once going there and heading home empty handed. RIP PETER
  3. A few years ago i was looking into opening a shop i knew what i was going to sell( not model related) and found a shop in the right location which was for rent the owner wanted £250 a week and the council tax was another £250 a week then there was insurances electricity etc needless to say it didnt get off the ground i would need to be open and selling 48 hrs a day just to stand still, the shop has been openend and closed a number of times over the years has have many others in the local town which is really no good to anyone because when they are empty neither the landlord or the council are earning and shoppers just go on line or to out of town shoping centres
  4. Damm i missed that i usually watch most historical programmes as they are about the only thing worth watching on telly but have found a short clip from the show, will have to keep and eye open for the reapeats i am sure it wont be long **LINK**
  5. i dont know if anyone has posted this before but i have just read it and thought others may be interested **LINK**
  6. Back in 2008 i had a small buisness selling garden equipment on ebay and was looking at also using my own internet site, When i talked to my bank about taking credit or debit card payments there would only have been a small monthly charge for the provision of the terminal and small 2 or 3% charge on each transaction with the money showing in my account within 24 hrs, that was for £5000 per month income with the percentage dropping if the income increased I have no idea what the charges are today but do feel that there are lots of retailers who add on a charge for credit and debit card use just because they can get away with it, whilst sat here i have just done my weeks shopping at asda for home delivery and paid by card with no extra charge, ( by the way we are 40 miles away from the store and delivery is only £2.50 ) so i dont see why if one reatiler can do it why they all cant
  7. checked out the ones in wales to see if there is one near me , at the moment it seems every club in the country has a field in wales except welsh clubs def work in progress
  8. Posted by Pete B on 09/11/2012 18:55:59: Yes, but reading that article it is for the duration of their Congress - just a tad more extreme than the security measures imposed in London for a different function a couple of months ago Be that as it may, even if modelling was totally purged in PRC, they still need the currency from the exports, so I think we can breathe easily for a while. It's just a matter of which superpower buckles first. If the dollar collapses, then we'll do very well with our HK purchases - until Armageddon, that is! Pete The curency from exports is one of major factors why many countries including the UK are in such dire straights, Quite simply the balance of trade is killing us, money leaves the country for cheap imports so we have less employment, we therefore buy more foreign cheap goods so that our money goes further and so on untill eventually we all end up with nothing, this has been happening for years which is why succesive Uk goverments have not published the balance of trade more widely but it is acelerating and the only thing that will stop it is buying british and supporting british suppliers, Obviously we cannot get everyting we need from the uk ie balsa but every little helps, although that may be a tesco slogan they help very little i spotted them selling runner beans from south africa and podded peas from peru in july this year which certainly doesnt help me as i am a market gardener
  9. Just had a look at this and checked a plane flying over carmarthen which is near me its from Atlanta and going to cincinnati do you think this is an american taxi taking the long route

  11. Hi there David, good for you i often daydream about my perfect workshop having M E means its about all i can do at the moment with not being able to work and a shortage of funds but browsing ebay i noticed some Plan chests that architects use going cheap and thought they would be great for storing plans and meterials, lots of drwaers not to deep so things dont get buried and a nice flat top for working on, def on my list when the numbers come up, that is after buying a smallholding so i can have a huge shed for cars, bikes, planes and many other interests i would like to take further, all the best to you now back to my dreams and admiring the build blogs on here PS i also saw a build blog on an american site and the builder was using an A0 drawing board to build on which i thought looked rather good as it can be tilted to suit the individual again a nice flat surface to work on usefull for tracing plans  aswell as building on and can be stored against a wall leaving extra room in the workshop again these always turn up on ebay quite cheap as not man people want them now we have computers   Edited By IAN EDGE on 02/11/2012 19:48:42

  16. The stripwood or epoxy would be nice, just looking to start my first build from a plan and being my first model trainer for self teaching i may need some repair materials
  17. Thanks bob much appreciated, only looking for a cheap starter system to get into the hobby, 3 channel trainer plan built, there are no clubs within any reasonable striking distance of me so going to be going solo from day one so not going to risk a new sytem, finding bargains and building will be as much fun as flying and dont mind doing the odd repair or two either
  18. Can anyone give me an indication as to what this is worth **LINK**
