  1. Moved into my new 14ft*10ft workshop last summer and by november started to get things organised. Then in december decorated the front room which involved a bit of full size woodwork. Used my Triton workcentre to cut timber but my dust extractor didn't work as well as I expected and the whole workshop got covered in dust and chippings on the floor. Managed to get in there today and start clearing up, got the floor clear so far.   John
  2. Ships are too big for me but I know narrow boats in "fresh" water have sacrificial anodes fitted to the hull.   John
  3. As Gaz says gentle heat works for me - found out the hard way and ruined several fixings first.   John
  4. Old mags (and yes I do collect them) are are reminder of how things have progressed. My first propo set (Fleet) had 4 channels Tx, RX, 4 servos and charger and that was it . No reversing ,no mixes no computer screens and cost about £150. Compare that to what you get now for less. Many of the trimming hints and tips still apply today but most people rely on the "computer" to sort it out for them. There is much to be learnt from reading old mags.   John
  5. Hi Try doing as above but with the throttle trim in low position as well. John
  6. K & B were/are an American engine used I think for pylon racing years ago hence the tuned pipe. Would be 6.5 cc.   John
  7. Graeme, When you get the "model" airborne try not to fly flat out so things happen at a slower rate but keep enough speed to prevent stalling. When turning with ailerons try adding a bit of up elevator as the model banks or the nose will tend to drop. On landing try throttling back to say third throttle to slow down but go easy on the up elevator as the model will slow too much and then stall and crash. throttle back a bit more just before touchdown. It's a matter of practice, practice and more practice just as with a model, but not so expensive in repairs.   Different simulators have different features to help setup the models to your taste. I have a cheapy sim. that is not realistic at all as it allows models to fly through trees and buildings as if they were not there. I don't use your sim but there will be someone who does who can give you pointers for yours.   John
  8. I've been flying for 3 years a little foam model my wife bought me in Robert Dyas (hardware shop). Only control is motor speed on two geared brushed motors for steering and full or no power for height control. On 27 meg fixed frequency. Great fun as each flight is a challenge. Flies well in a stiffish breeze. Still fly my "proper" planes as well.   John
  9. Got one after Wings and Weald show. Took it to the Brean flying holiday in Somerset in September. A godsend as my knees are shot and it's difficult to get up and down. Only got the basic stand as there are lots of extras that can be fitted. Stable even without the outriggers that can be fitted. Expensive to get started and relatively heavy to lift in and out of a car if you have a saloon but not too bad in my Smax with a hatchback and flat access into the back, but can be adapted to your own needs. Worth every penny in my opinion. Andy's CG mod is a great idea, hadn't thought of that yet. John
  10. I always used to turn left as a hang over from the single channel days- left turns were easier as the engine torque used to tighten the turn to the right, so start witha left turn until height gained and then turn as you liked. Old habits die hard. Probably still applies to some models today thoguh not thought about due to having more control over the model not just "bang bang" left and right. Makes me feel old just typing this.   John
  11. can't see damage myself. Right side of fus looks as if wing seat missing but if you look closely its ok but the wing behind is red and the wing seat is red so blends in.   John
  12. Had an email from sky yesterday about the new F1 channel. States "without interruption" so assume this means no adverts. Time will tell   John
  13. Anthony,   All the races but only highlights for most.   John
  14. Just a guess as a non glider guider - Brean Down Somerset?   John
  15. Hi Chris.   I've had a Shuttle for some years and did quite well on it. I now have a Sceadu 50 size and the difference in the control system is incredible. Not yet flown it but side by side on the bench the Sceadu control has virtually no play /slop compared to the Shuttle presumeably due to the dual pushrods on all swashplate controls. Most heli flyers in my club seem to favour all the variations of the Trex series. Probably get what you pay for as a big difference in cost to the Shuttle. Probably some one with more experience will give better advice.   John
  16. I was about to say that I have acquired a Futaba 128 in a second hand T240 (I've wanted one for years) and didn't know how old it was then Alan 4 gives me the answer (approx) Been modelling since the mid 60's and not heard of that one.   John
  17. I know nothing about ducted fan but the avdert you linked to states "mounting holes 16 to 18mm" so there must be some sort of mounting bracket supplied.   I'm sure someone with specific knowledge will be along to reply shortly.   John
  18. As you say t/e stock is not symmetrical. I get over this problem by shaving some wood off the thicker edge (front of the t/estock) to reduce the 90 angle degree along the length of the strip, with a razor plane. his does reduce the thickness very slightly but not enough to worry about usually.   I can't do drawings but with the t/e stock on a flat surface with the 90 degree angle on the work surface, raise the trailing edge (thin edge) approx 1/16th (1.5 mm) then mark the top surface at the point where the mark will be at 90 degrees to the work surface and you will end up with a fairly symmetrical stock when planed off. Takes longe to try and explain than do John
  19. I had the same problem with the Beta version of IE9 and reverted to IE8 - all ok. Then later updated to final version of IE9 reluctantly but it has worked perfectly.   I don't have the compatability icon on my top bar as in Tim's version just a magnifying glass, down arrow which gives other options and a list of recent site, a refresh symbol and close symbol. The toolbar is now a gear symbol on the right of the screen but has no compatabilty option.j   Have I not downloaded/run all options for IE9?   as I said it works ok as is.   JohnEdited By John Tee on 31/10/2011 20:10:44
  20. Posted by Big Bandit on 30/10/2011 20:04:03: Posted by Wingman on 30/10/2011 19:56:45: Posted by fly boy3 on 27/10/2011 18:30:08: Hope this is in the right place, please move or even remove if not, I have often wandered what other clubs ask for in annual subscriptions. Would £30 be an average yearly figure ?, no need to mention club names at all. Cheers Ours is £60 which is 10% of the field rental - we are a small club of 20 members. Ours is £25, we have the use of a local playing field through an agreement with the LA, and a purpose flying field rented from a farmer with a mowed strip and container for storage.   Chris. Ours is £57 including BMFA. Have to rent our field from a farmer. Approx. 95 members including juniors and social (non flying) members. John
  21. Lucky devil - we can't use our field before 10.00 am   John
  22. Thanks for all the info, I obviously have a lot to learn. When I did the copy/paste routine a window came up asking for permission to access the windows clipboard and I agreed but nothing came in the posting box when pasted. I need to practice more and look at the screen more where the info is before my very eyes.   John
  23. Ditto to Pete B. Crossed in posting   John
  24. Thanks Wingman. Obvious when looking in the right place. I forget that bar is there, I had the same query with ignore member so should be aware of it by now. Thanks again and I'll have to make more posts and learn these things.   John
  25. Many people quote some or all of other peoples posts in replies. I've tried copy and paste but it won't work for me. I've looked in quite a few posts in this section but can' t find any reference. Have I missed something simple again. Not always necessary but useful to avoid confusion in quoting people.   John
