  1. I'll happily give you a few £ for your old 35mhz receivers and crystals if they are compatible with futaba. If you want rid of it I'm still flying 35mhz on my nitro stuff as i prefer it.
  2. Sadly I now spend more time doing house repairs than flying However when i do go flying I have a very simple solution. Don't tell her I'm going and save 1 argument.
  3. Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of andy carter who had rebuilt the tiger cub microlight. I have tried going to his profile but it appears to be private. I'm thinking of rebuilding a tiger cub and would love to speak with him. Thanks Andrew

  5. Hi guys I thought i would just air some frustration about a maplin store. They have been flying quad copters in the car park of the retail centre where they are based in the middle of a very busy town some times within feet of people and cars. Its been going on for the past year and despite promises from maplin head office that the practice would stop they have been spotted doing it again at the weekend. It has been reported to the bmaa and caa but nobody seems to care.... Is it a double standard for large companies and model flyers? I'm geussing if a member of the public reported me for repeatedly flying like that i would at the very least be getting a stern talking to from the caa. I can only see this practice taring the rest of us with a bad name when the inevitable happens and it hits a car or a person. See the attached video for some of the photos and videos members of the local model flying club have taken. ahh that's better rant over for the day. Andrew
  6. Mine needed a lot of lead in the nose to get it right. If you check the cg well and fly it in with power on the approach it flys quite well. However the tip stall is very violent
  7. We had the same blanket ban in Northern Ireland as well during the g8 you couldn't fly as a kite legally. But there is no practical way to enforce it. It just gives the authority's the right to give u a big fine should they stumble upon you.
  8. This has to count as classic I Haven't a clue what it is but i know its 18+ years old
  9. Our club has dealt with Xamax clothing many times they are very fast and cheap. From memory they offer a discount if you buy over 25 items.
  10. Is the thrust line correct on the plane? when your cruising around the sky you will be flying at half throttle so you will not notice as much if it is off but at full throttle a properly trimed plane will want to pull the way the motor is pointing.
  11. In other circumstances, such as we regular LOS flyers taking aerial video/pics of our flying site and surroundings, I really don't think there is any need to be concerned that we are ever likely to incur the wrath of the authorities. Pete   I disagree the athourity oten lack the common sense to distingush between a normal modeller or a boundary pusher. I was once a member of a fullsize flying club where a hating neighbour who was conctantly filing reports. reported and aircaft for flying dangerously. The aircraft was perfectly within the law and was actually on its yearly test flight for the permit to fly being flown by a test pilot. The athourity thought it would prosicute anyway. Luckily the case fell through when the gps data from the aircraft confirmed it had not performed any of the manouvers discribed. My point is all it would take is a NIMBY or an agrivated farmer to get some poor person in hot water. {Edited for language. Again!] Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 06/04/2014 16:02:49
  12. I'm With Beariar on this one. Lets put aside spectulation about this flight to me it does look like a failed autonomus flight but again if it was a failed flight its still a fly away! We need to look at he big issue aside arising from this case is alot of moddelers are breaking the law and they dont even know it. Little timmy down the park with his foamy and a key fob camera, Old tom at he flying club who comes within 50m of some unhappy farmers tractor while recording his flight on landing, and the countless people who buy the ready to fly 3ch helis with fitted cameras are all breaking the law and are all open to prosciution under this legislation. 13. Posted by leccyflyer on 06/04/2014 11:16:22: I've read the thread and the evidence presented that the model was equipped to be FPV capable, but, for some reason was not actually being flown FPV is slim to non-existent. The course corrections to fly along the channel, towards the bridge, strongly suggest, to me at least, that the model was under control at that point. I haven't read the threads on the FPV hub forums, so that is why i am asking that question, regarding the evidence presented for that assertion. Lining up a model being flown solely by LOS, to overfly the bridge with such a degree of precision, from a point laterally removed from that point, would be a matter of considerable piloting skill, and probably far beyond the capabilities of an unmanned, unpiloted, uncontrolled wing in undirected flight. That doesn't look like a flyaway and the story doesn't pass the sniff test. Why should the story about the FPV equipment being fitted, but not operating, be considered in any other light. Edited By leccyflyer on 06/04/2014 11:17:06 Leccy flyer if he was flying fpv he would not have been prosecuted under the act that he was as it specifically excludes aircraft that are fitted with a camera for the sole purpose of maintaining flight.
  14. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 05/04/2014 18:28:23: My understanding would be that indoor flying does not break the law - provided the model is not equipped with a camera or other device that transmits data. BEB It must be understood that a small indoor plane with a key fob camera or the little infra red Helis from Argos etc all will breech this rule . So technically are open to prosecution apart from commmon sense and let's face it the people higher up the food chain often do not posess this gift.
  15. Posted by Mr.B. on 05/04/2014 17:14:19: In view of this story I checked the local park where Mr B Jnr occasionally flies his tri copter with video camera. Scaling of a map shows his take off/landing area is actualy only about 40m from the nearest houses but the rest of the flight is over 50m. Still I don't think the CAA will be after him any time soon. Edited By Mr.B. on 05/04/2014 17:17:58 It still possible they could tho. Lets say pc plod takes a dislike to Mr.B junior and reports him. Or a dog walker feels he is flying dangerously. The CAA technically would be with in there right to prosicute under law altough common sense would say not to.This is also the case with the small helicopters. As is the case with indoor flying technically you are breaking the law. I would have to do more reading into the subject but im more than willing to bet there is a cut off weight limit for an excemption. As someone who has been on the side of the stick this poor fellow has been on (all be it with a full size a/c). The case i found my self in was won after the prosicuting athority actually could not under stand there own legislation! He was an idiot for leaving the court as it would have been quite simple to argue a fly away.
  16. All over the country there are 1000's of unsuspecting children and adults breaking the law by flying their small infra red model helicopters that have cameras fitted around their living room or back garden. Lets face it your never going to get those little a/c 50m away from anything.
  17. Id recognise that pilot anywhere its black horse more than likely an angel. http://blackhorsemodel.com.vn/?product=angel
  18. The inflatable plane idea is still out there this one is actually in production. I saw it fly in france a couple of years ago amazing little thing. http://fly.woopyjump.com/
  19. Posted by CARPERFECT on 18/02/2014 13:13:09: Reason for Question . Our Farmer has wrote to us telling us he is putting it up from £500 to £1500 and it will go up each year. We have to share it with the sheep and for 6 months of the year will not allow any cars in the field. We have to carry it all 100 to 150 yards. I would be waking away your farmer is trying to sick his arm in. There's plenty of farmers who would be very happy getting £500 a year and they wouldn't put sheep on it .
  20. brfc7 Thank you that is the very plane I have an os 40la but didnt know if it would be too big. Have you any idea where your cg is?
  21. I built a half finished kit i got at a bring and buy a few years ago called an exocet it was a small delta wing for what i presume would be 20 - 30 size nitro engine. the wings were foam wings and a built up fuselage on top I never had a plan for it and know nothing more about it. I'm just wondering if anyone knows the plane im talking about or have ever owned one?
  22. Thanks for the repluys guys lots of useful information i went ahead and bought the little beauty here it is
