  1. Here's a bad one for you....Think one of the guys is minus an eyebrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9mcNvOGKtI#t=95 Jamie
  2. LoL me either..... there's gremlins on here I offfff!!!!!! On the subject of bending wood I seen a program on bending wood and the guy used a 2 inch peace of tube just like a down pipe of the wall on your house that connects to your guttering. He put a kettle at the bottom and sat the plastic tube over the spout. He then tilted it to a 45 deg angle and leant it against the wall. He then plugged the bottom with a rag, dropped his wood into the tube....plugged the top with a rag and saturated the tube with steam. He said it was trial and error and you had to keep checking the wood for flex every couple of minutes... The video was about making Canadian canoes using cedar Jamie
  3. I would like to say, everyone did a scratch build of there own design but that would never work lol.......If there was a list of certain sizes of wood and sq stock that all entry's adhered to and then unleash your imagination lol but that would never help the new comers and beginners now would it !!! Maybe that's a good idea for some other time....it could be really good fun and quite interesting to see what other peoples creations were at the end..... I like the idea of a vintage thrown in to the mass build....I don't have any certain air frames at this moment but I will look when I get chance....I like the Ben Buckle range and find myself going back and looking all the time I'd quite like to see what everyone thinks of my idea above to....but another thread for that is the way to go... Jamie
  4. Wow Ton, that is a big difference !!! The fuselage difference in weight is slightly alarming. I'm using a 3s 2200 mah battery also......but there is a 210 gram difference in the fuselage....I'm wondering where I have gone wrong. The wings were obviously going to be heavier with 2 1 meter extension cables, 4 servos and the additional wood etc for the alterations but I will have to look into it to see what is so different in the fuselage. Thanks Ton
  5. Glad it worked out for you Dan. I've always fancied one of these rocket ships... You won't be able to resist that battery when it arrives lol Happy flying Jamie
  6. Hi Ton, I just weighed it and the fuselage all ready to go including the battery is exactly 800 grams. The wings are 700 grams. This is an over all weight of 1.5 kg..... What was your flying weight ?? Jamie
  7. I use the scalpel treatment like Beb....works with me to......I remember the very first model I built when I was 12 and it was all just me and no advice. I un-wittingly covered my whole plane without removing the backing foil. It sticks quite well for a while but one Saturday flying at the strip with a guy that was teaching me the whole covering on the top of the wing started coming off. He came over and was astonished how long it had stayed on !!! Wonder if anyone ever made that mistake like me...lol Jamie
  8. Well after finally finishing my Red Eagle I finally let her go today and it wasn't a disaster !! Thank the lord lol... The glider flew straight as I would have hoped for with a half dozen clicks of elevator.....motor is slightly under powered but managed to get it up to a couple of hundred feet. Not sure if your interested but the mods that I did are as below. the only reason why I did the mods was simply because I already have a rudder elevator thermal but I couldn't resist building the red eagle..so I added my own twist to the build...... Here she is all ready and finished for flight..... This is one of the air breaks......I did test it in the second flight and they work amazingly well. I have them set to come down 20mm and the nose raises maybe 10 degrees on approach and the speed bled off but no stall at all.....it just wallowed in the air and sank to a creamer of a landing 3 meters away from me.....I did firstly test them at height for any nasty tendency but there were none!! The flaps are 350mm x 40mm in size and are built up....not shaped solid balsa..... This is the aileron on one wing.....They are controlled by a servo mounted in the wing and I intentionally had the servo controlling the aileron from above to avoid contact with ground in landings...The Flap servos are mounted underneath but are far closed to the fuselage so ground Clarence is never going to be a problem. Aileron dimensions are 310mm x 40mm built up structure. I opted to not build in the washout that is on plan due to the aileron's and that has not affected the flight performance at all. I fully tested the rudder during flight and it's authority has not been affected. This is the servo access to the Flap.... The final modification that I added was an extra 4 ribs in each wing which turned the wing span out at just short of 2.6 meters. 2.560 meters to be exact. All in all a very nice glider and thanks for sharing your design with us Ton.... I will be testing a mix with the rudder/aileron and some one mentioned starting at 50% but after test flying it today I think I will start at about 15%....I was adding rudder during the second flight and it wasn't need much at all if any for the turns.....First flight it was all aileron with no rudder and it behaved and turned very well. Winds were about 5 mph during test. Jamie
  9. Posted by Andy Green on 16/09/2014 14:55:26: Its just arrived, from Germany. Ordered on Friday. You would be hard pressed to find a UK company with such geat delivery. Andy Impressive indeed !! Yep pictures are always a wealth of words lo Jamie
  10. Posted by Steve Houghton 1 on 15/09/2014 11:55:57: Those ailerons look mighty small Jamie! Steve A470soaring.blogspot.co.uk Time will tell Steve, I'll me trying it in next couple of days. There 340mm x 40mm so we will see how it goes. It's by no means an aerobatic bird but the ailerons will have to have an affect of its turns. I'll report back once the maiden has been done. Hopefully I wont look like a total idiot !! Jamie
  11. Excellent !!! Good to see all genders getting involved to. There isn't enough girls/women involved in RC from what I see. My eldest daughter is showing serious interest (9 years old) I think I should embrace this and get her started. Love the theme tune to !!!! Very appropriate indeed...... Jamie
  12. Posted by Matt Jones on 15/09/2014 09:57:15: It's a shame that the nose profile isn't quite right but I'll probably still have a go at the EDF version at some point If you don't think its right modify it to your own liking Matt...... Once its in the air I don't think you will notice personally....I think it looks ok..... jamie
  13. Well my RCM&E has arrived today. I'll be reading it cover to cover. The vulcan plan will be out first to look over and make a decision of what exactly I need to buy.... Already read the Vulacn article ......very good Tony Excellent !!! Jamie
  14. Hi everyone, here is a picture of my Red Eagle. Its been slightly modified as I had previously mentioned. The wings are modified and at 2.6 meters. Ive added flaps and alerones....... Metal geared 9g servos in wings. I've just electrics in one wing to complete and it maiden time. Lets hope I haven't made a mistake lol but on the ground it looks good lol,,,,, I also dropped the dihedral on the wing centre section to 0 deg   Jamie Edited By Jamie sawyer on 15/09/2014 08:16:26
