  1. Will you be doing a build thread Martin ? If you are I hope you don't mind me following your lead lol.. I'll be waiting till the plan comes out and put a full figure on it all before I 100% commit .... There wasn't any discription on how to finish the airframe. I've never painted but always iron on material.... How should I plan this ?? Will it be just sealed with a balsa blocker end painted or is it glassed with 80 grm cloth and epoxy ? Jamie
  2. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 10/09/2014 23:35:14: Jamie, the `Brain` is the one I have got. (not mine - lost it ages ago). Cool , think I'll be using it to........( LoL ) Jamie
  3. Both on my last outings slope soaring I have had 2 Buzzards join me on the slope in the lift......They don't really show any care about the glider but seagulls and crows are a bit more unpredictable and Oyster catchers in the summer hate RC planes and will dive bomb them to the point they will come into contact with the plane.... I had a crow one year attack my IC plane and I was trying to get away and it just wouldn't give up and I seem to remember it lost a couple of feathers before it relised there was an end that bit !!....Birds can be quite a pane and they can force you to land.....there also a lot more agile in the air so they can be quite hard to get away from !!! I know this from experience Jamie
  4. Thanks for your answers Tony, with regards to the controller ESC for the 4 EDF units I just found this ... at a very reasonable price to .... I think my one will be prime rally for the slope but that isn't going to stop me fitting some EDF units in it.....I like to have a plan B especially if I loose lift and need a small helping hand to get back up into the safety zone for landing..... Very excited about this now lol Cant wait to get a look at the plan when it arrives Jamie
  5. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 10/09/2014 00:22:32: Tony, I am interested, but can you give us the HK item No. of the EDF units actually used since the 3s one I looked at got bad reviews due to only having 12oz static against an original better version which had 16oz. This would give more time to order these ahead of the presumed rush. Thanks, Martin Mc. I'm seeing that to Martin, there is an identical EDF unit set for 4s setup that gives an extra 100 grams of thrust over the 3s setup / per unit..... Here I'm planning the 4 EDF setup on 3s or 4s depending on the reply from Tony..... I've already got retract UC less the nose wheel set but hopefully get that organised. I've never setup this kind of complicated setup or had a EDF before either. I was wondering if 2 40 amp ESC would do running 2 EDF units off each ESC if it was the 3s setup.....I could solder a wire loom up so that 1 ESC runs both outboard engines and then the second ESC runs both inboard engines meaning if 1 ESC failed or battery it would keep the thrust equal ... Wonder how much the wood packs are going to be ?? Any ideas Tony or is that a secret till the 15th lol Jamie
  6. Rob & Avtur, I am definitely not bashing model shops and I totally agree that trying to keep them. We are all modelers after all so it goes without saying. I understand your argument about the scenario of how everyone crashes and even the most professional can have a dumb thumbs moment or pushing it to far and doing something stupid causing the airframe to super cede its capabilities. This is not one of those cases clearly is it ! I've never had this happen to me but I do tend to read the reviews that come with aircraft before I buy them and I have read some horror stories about wings breaking on ARTF aircraft and I steer away from them. It's all in Hobby Kings hanger of aircraft. In the reviews there could be 6 and 4 of them are good but 2 are wings giving way........That's poor build quality or poor materials being used. If I built a model and it flew for 20 min max and broke a wing I'd question my materials or skill......you would to surely... Soon as you buy a ARTF and walk out the shop £150 lighter and get 2 evenings of pleasure and expectation of kitting it out and then 20 minutes of flight till failure is Wrong ........You can't say it isn't surely...... I use my LMS quite a lot but I also use Sussex Model Centre online all the time and thats simply because of there customer relations.....I also use Just Engines....I tend to stick to what I know and I know that that 2 shops are fantastic and very helpful in there sales and sales support...... As a business owner I know what it is like to have financial difficulties. I'm 5 years divorced.....My x wife cleaned me out before she left by a figure of £23,500 and I had no idea what she was doing in that 6 months before she left. I ate Super noodles for 6 months and slept on a floor for 6 months before I stabilized my self but I didn't bring my problems into my business and recovered from it all. The reason why I mention this is simply as I said before for a further £40 they could have sent out another airframe and had a satisfied customer. If they have financial issues they shouldn't let it creep into there customer relations. Im not bashing them, I actually sympathize to a certain point but they have an obligation to the public who keep them afloat... P.s I dont sell toasters lol Jamie
  7. As they sold it to him it is there obligation to refund or replace. I run a business and have had products fail or break that clients have bought from me. If they are under warranty then I just go and replace the item.....remove it from there possession and return it to the party that I received it from and I get refunded as the business owner. Its a very simple process Rob and you work down the chain.....I'm not getting into a public debate about it with you but you have bashed the thread all the way through and he's clearly proven that the air frame is inadequate due to poor construction and flaws in the wing. It flew for lets say 20 minutes at best ..........thats poor no matter how you cut it.. Jamie
  8. Did I just read that right!!!! Tony, this plan is in the next RCM&E...... If this is the case then its my next project lol.....Will it do ok for a slope flyer ? Thanks Jamie
  9. Well Andy I think you have been treated Disgracefully with the whole thing. A 50 % refund is terrible and a complete cop out of a full refund or just a replacement airframe. Rob Jones if the LMS was making a 30% Profit then for a further £40 they could have just replaced his aircraft at a zero profit margin !!! Everyone would have been happy and the case would have been closed. Instead they have ignored him until they relised he wasn't going to go away..
  10. I had 2 of those Hitec Hs 81's fail in another plane I had this year. Both were aileron servos. Its the Hobbyking Turnigy MG90s I've got now and they seem ok for there price These @ £3.29 who would complain lol Jamie
  11. OH NOOOO Martain,,,,,,thats a gutter for you.... I've metal gear servos in my one......maybe just as well What breed of servos ??
  12. Where did you get the UC from Lee. Seriously considering a spit which would please my old man !!! Thats why I was asking about a build thread lol Top job Jamie
  13. Hi Lee, you should be very proud of what you have achived. Its a magnificent aircraft. Do you have a build thread on it ?? Jamie
  14. here is a good one I have looked and its not easy to find a kit that your looking for. There mostly ARTF. The one in the link is to, but the Mystique has brilliant reviews and a proper fantastic glider from what I see. Why don't you try designing one your self Andy. I am planning doing my own design of a 3 meter glider and have already chosen the airfoil for it but need to build a wing. I've got a fuselage already and I will be making the wing to suit the Fuselage already so when I go up the slope I'll be taking 2 sets of wings but one Fuselage.... The wings I already have are full thermal sail plane wings like the Bird of Time. The new wing will have zero dihedral and more of a warm/hot liner wing built for speed and stronger winds.
  15. The Red Eagle pull out plan that was published in the RCM&E. Its a nice build Andy... **LINK** Or there is the Gentle Lady on this page plus a few more to choose from. Jamie
  16. 30 seconds in a room with that guy and I would be looking for the door !!! Essjay, lmao that made me laugh. Yes I can hear the resembalance for sure......what an excitable guy... Bet he's a Thomas the tank engine lover
  17. Posted by Dave Hopkin on 08/09/2014 18:48:21: Posted by Peter Miller on 08/09/2014 18:35:58: That is it. The strange thing is that it sounded like a noisy piston engine. Thanks for that folks Is it? No "nacelle" on the starboard wing, Stabiliser in the photo looks mush less swept than the diagram, wing tips dont seem to match either I agree and in the photo it looks more like a high winged aircraft
  18. I was sloping today to. Nice steady 10 mph westerly. It was South west which is good for my normal slope but when I went up and let the glider off the side of the hill the wind had swing to a full Westerly... My Girlfriend had come up for the walk with the lab and we were at about 300 meters above the car park. So I had been eying up a hill behind the one I normally fly off since months and it is facing perfectly for a westerly....but quite a long walk through deep heather and elevated to about 800 meters above the car park..... Conclusion was well I have the day off so we proceeded to walk up to the shoulder of the hill which as it turns out was slightly further away and higher than originally assumed. After dragging our sorry souls up the shoulder and onto a Plato about 100 meters from the top of this hill which felt like a mountain by this point we poured ourselves a cup of tea and sat down to lap up the view and what a view it was!!!...I will take a few pictures when I'm up there next ( Later in the week hopefully ) Scottish Highland at its best. I got the trusty Seagull 2.2 meters thermal put together and turned to the steady westerly and up she went holding solid in the lift and the lift was endless.....the dog was very intrigued by this strange thing in the air to continually following it back and forth across the edge of the Plato we were perched on, with a small bark of curiosity every now and then....quite funny really. So after a good while of flying and doing circuits round the shoulder and back into the lift of this new play ground that I had discovered we packed up and had a nice slow but much more easier walk back to the car. All in all a very good outing and that's me got a brilliant south facing ridge and a very strong but long walk westerly... Hope my story doesn't ramble on to much lol just thought I could share my adventure to you all in detail. Slope soaring is highly addictive and it has a very different discipline compared to flat flying with Ic planes etc Edited By Jamie sawyer on 08/09/2014 18:36:26
  19. I like the idea of carbon rods/ tubes etc and Epoxy. Vibration and fatigue can be minimized by balancing your propeller and mounting the engine mount on rubber pads. What I am wondering is 2 things, if you do go down the ss tube route how are you going to over come the onboard radio mounting scenario. Secondly if you do choose carbon fiber will this affect the 2.4 ghz signal ???......or for that matter is all this metal tubing etc going to cause issues with the signal ??
  20. That looks just like a Mini Jazz John lol ...if you'd asked I would have gladly posted you my plan as long as I got it back that is. Postage stamp is a lot cheaper than buying it. Has the G15 got enough oommph to hover then ?? I've just fitted a different motor in my Jazz and time will tell how it performs. I will report back and admit what size it is .... Here's hoping for good weather tomorrow
  21. I ordered 3 2200mah 3s lipos on Monday and they arrived 3 days later by royal mail on 48 hour delivery. I live in the Highlands which makes the difference on the postage time. There lipo price is amazing compared to other stores
  22. Sorry to see your Red Eagle in a sorry state Ton, I'm sure you will soon get it back in the air with a wee bit of pva . Did one wing survive the incident ?? Wing joining wire has a fare bend in it, must have been quite a collision !! Jamie
  23. **LINK** There's plenty reading in link above for you Brent lol. Your thinking the wrong way. The prop has to be made smaller, this reduces the load on the motor and esc/battery. That's exactly where the watt meter comes in to work.... I'm like you, oil and smoke guy and all this electric stuff is mind boggling for me ...... If your buying Rx try one of the Frsky 2.4 ghz rx or I just bought 2 of these for my 2.4 ghz futaba fasst system **LINK** that Rx are brilliant and binding is instant to your Tx......very cheap to Regards Jamie
  24. I did the exact same Brent regards to the 450 motor & Esc. By any chance is the motor an Align 430L outrunner. I have my one in my hand and it is 3550 Kv lol which is a bit mad for an electric aerobatic 3d plane. Small 450 hellis run on high Kv motors where as planes are down normally around the 850 upwards unless I will be corrected lol. BUT I did what you did and fitted the motor to a plane I built and it worked just fine with a 3mm prop adaptor for the propeller. Everyone has been going on about getting a watt meter for testing the watts being drained from the battery while the motor is at full throttle. I will be getting one because they are only about £12 and they will save a lot of burnt out motors and Esc, I suggest you get one to. Hope all this help chap Jamie
  25. Hi everyone, I've been checking out the Mirage on traplet for a Plan, Canopy and wood pack totaling £130 roughly. Does anyone have first hand knowledge what is in the wood pack. Is it just the cnc cut pack or is it the complete wood pack required to build the Jet **LINK** Thanks
