  1. Following some recomendations in this thread some while ago I've been enjoying Terry Pratchett's Discworld series together with the Steven Saylor's Sub Rosa and Patrick O'Brain's Aubrey - Maturin books. I can recommend them all. I bought every book on eBay and have been able to find some pretty good bargains. When I've read through my current stock, I will now try popping off to the charity shops with a list.
  2. I just Googled "C415 aircraft" and it came up as the Canadair waterbomber!! Does this help?
  3. Cerainly am watching, Chris, with great interest.
  4. Quite right Dave. we will certainly never see the likes of him again. Very sad news. RIP.
  5. I can hear the cogs churning from here Colin!!
  6. Well done Linds. It certainly looks the part in the air.
  7. Snashing looking aircraft Nigel. Good luck with the build. Andy.
  8. Thank you Danny. I'll try again - when I'm in my more normal good mood.
  9. Won't let me register, or, when I did, they won't recognise my user name password combo. Guess I'll have to have another go. Computers!! Mutter!! Mutter!!
  10. And to think I could have gone there. The missus didn't fancy it!! Should have known then that it would all end in tears!! Although she thinks it's preferrable to watch paint dry, the new woman in my life has been to airshows with me and even "endured" a full Cosford day - with open cockpits in the evening. I'm currently working on a trip to Duxford. What do I do for her I can hear you say! I watch Casualty every Sat night and even remember the story lines so that I can talk about it with her. Mind you, I gat to watch MOD every week!!
  11. Well Colin. I guess we both fell for the female form at the same time of our lives and with the same disastrous consiquences. I left 220 Sqd, St Albans, at just about the time i was getting close to being offered flying/cliding tuition. What idiots we were.
  12. I think we only have ourselves to consider whilst buiding Peter, the purple plan combined with a spot of manana sound very good ways forward.
  13. I am trying to get going on my first ever build, Peter. I'm thinking that Mr Miller and his purple plan could well be my inspiration. No pressure there, at all.
  14. You will have to set your bed up in the garden Peter. You need then only open your eyes and look (squint) skyward for some really comfortable and efficient plane spotting. Don't whatever you do let the blonde see you though. You never know where that will lead!!
  15. Thank you, Robin, for such a comprehensive response to my grumpy old man post. I was getting to the point that eBay was too much like hard work and giving up on it. Will try your search methods later, looking forward to it in fact!
  16. When looking to what's about on eBay, why do I have to plough through pages and pages of plans and magazines that a couple of idividual posted? I obviously don't object to that selling them both why on earth do they post amongst the Aeroplane/Aeroplane section? There must be a more appropriate place. Mutter mutter.
  17. Looks even better, Simon. The tweaks seem to have worked very well. The dog reminds me of taking my Collie with me whilst I practiced my iron shoots. I had to stop as she was so fast there was a danger that she would actually catch one, as she was seriously trying to do!! How was I going to explain a toothless dog to the kids!
  18. Great to see you flexing your modeling muscle again. Seems churlish not to follow!! Good luck
  19. Looks very nice Mark. Well done. ` Regarding the weather. If it continues, as is, you'll have to check for any brass parts, sperical or not in the build before the maiden!!
  20. My Dad was at Pages, Radlet. He put his hand up when they were desperate for people to work nights "for about 4 wks". He had to get quite strident to go back to days - after about 10yrs!!
  21. I don't do envy Martyn, but, if I did........ I well remember going to Hatfield when they had an open day. A fantastic way for a young aviation mad boy to spend a day. Even bits of Comet looked really good. Later I worked at Oldings Corner which was right under the final approach. Deep joy.
