  1. plasterboard!! easy to push pins into, dirt cheap and when its time is up easy to replace.
  2. Hi. I put a few models on the Bmfa site last night as I'm taking a bit of a break from flying. All but 2 of the items sold within 3 hours..many of them could gave been sold repeatedly. I got the price I asked for everything and have not got to pay ebays ridiculous costs or paypals charges. It goes to show that selling on the BMFA site is definately way better than ebay..no worrying whether something will reach high enough bids or being ripped off. Much quicker than waiting for an auction to run for 7 days too. Jez Mc Nomojo
  3. Disagree...if I have to buy jiffy bags etc then thats the 'packaging' part of p&p. Ebay costs are so high now why should sellers swallow costs? I dont think thats unreasonable. Jez
  4. Hi. This thread longer seems to just about Long Marston but about the changing face of model flying shows in the UK. I have always enjoyed listening to DB at the shows I have flown at..he went out of his way to speak to all the pilots and knew most of us by name. I can honestly say Im dreading sitting listening to this Nick and his "Down with the youth" gibberish. 10 mins at Weston Park last year whilst he did a heli slot commentary did my head in. He came across like a poor 80's DJ. And as for the loud music... I can honestly say that if his commentary at Weston Park is like this for a solid 2 days then that will be the end of my Dawn Patrol flying and all my toys will be for sale. Seriously. 5. Hi. Just want to jump in and stick up for Greenacres here as have noted a negative post or two. Greenacres shows are fly ins. There are no pre-booked slots so anyone can turn up and fly any plane they like. The weather for the last couple of shows has featured quite strong winds that put off a lot of the everyday club flyers leaving the slightly braver or even more competent show flyers to keep aircraft in the sky. If this was mainly 3d and jets then that was purely coincidental. Its up to pilots to bring the different types of plane as I know they will be welcomed and certainly not prevented or discouraged from flying. Jez
  6. Hi John.. Looking great mate! Ive got your moth books etc here if you need them plus a few of my own..I also have a CD with over 1500 pics and diagrams. Jez
  7. Sorry for your loss Miles. As a team of Dawn Patrol pilots Im sure we can share loads of memorable tales. I recall an infamous drunken weeing in Ken Harts boots episode and Im sure we have photos of him asleep on the flightline adorned with a 'hungry and homeless'sign. He was always quick to help us and never failed to share his opinions. His obsession with metal name plates for our planes and always being up at the crack of dawn to stake out vast swathes of aircraft parking will keep us talking around the camp fire for years to come. I wish him blue skies to fly in and dry roads to race on. Jez
  8. Hi all. I'm currently finishing off a 1/4 scale Auster Aop9. The cockpit includes masses of wiring on show which hangs all over the metal framing which looks a bit like a rally cars roll-cage. I was hoping to utilise the servo cables to replicate the wiring but need them to be all black. I've tried spray paint and little enamel pots but it either cracks off or fails to dry remaining sticky for weeks. Any ideas what I can use? Jez
  9. Cheeky....It's 1/3rd scale....I have to take the wheels off for it to go into the boot of a mondeo estate. . They fit on with split pins...I obviously hadn't opened the legs wide enough.... Jez
  10. Oops...London! ! Should have read ur post more thoroughly!
  11. Hi! Many rc flying clubs have dedicated trainer aircraft that you can have a go with before you commit to parting with any cash. Where abouts do you live? Jez
  12. Ha..you bunch of rotters! ! Its getting to be a habit though..the photos in the mag are from Greenacres after I lost a wheel of take off but the video is from The Willis Warbirds do at Little Gransden. I must remember to make a harness for the pilot! Happy new year! Jez
  13. Hi Chris. It's left to the builder to decide. It could be bolted straight onto the framework or even hinged to the same hinge the side cheeks are attached to.. The lowest part of the cowl should hinge downwards which might help access?? Jez
  14. HI all. I know it's been a while but life has got in the way lately. I will be back on this over Christmas. .I promise!! Gordon..what bits do you need info on? The rings etc were done by a good mate with a laser cutter. Jez
  15. Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing it. Jez
  16. Hi all. Sad to see such a lovely model lost. Geoff mentioned Ian Redshaws Hp42 being tested in Germany prior to being allowed to fly in a public display..It was at euroflugtag in 2012. They took various measurements of the model and calculated what the wingloading should be. They then proceeded to suspend the model and actually added the weight using sandbags along the flying surfaces. The scrutineers checked the amount of distortion/deflection. I remember the look on Ians face as they gradually added a couple of hundred kilos to the wings...priceless!! Far more rigorous than the LMA testing carried out here in the UK. Jez
  17. Total powerbox failure = nothing at all. Simple enough for you? You lie in your opening dribble stating you saw the wind get under a wing. With the wind being right to left that would have blown the aircraft away from the crowd wouldn't it? Jeez.. Give it up. It was an accident End of.
  18. More like the model is totally capable of a fully controlled cross wind take off. Unlike the grounded Ww1 stuff. Unless Owdlad in his obviously biased or confused state is suggesting the weather caused the radio failure????
  19. Really? Are you saying nothing flew on Sunday? Funny that..I thought they only grounded the Ww1 stuff for whom it was too windy. As did we with our Dawn Patrol models. Man up and apologise.
  20. I was spotting for the pilot flying the Wilga. The conditions were completely within limits and as stated before its flown many times and is rigorously set up with everything backed up via a top of the range powerbox. It saddens me that the original poster has had such a public go at someone with clearly no information about the cause of the crash. The a/c was being flown well within its limit when all radio contact was lost..no failsafe was triggered so it all pointed to total power loss despite every redundancy you can imagine on a plane worth several thousand pounds. The plane was in a turn when the incident happened leading to a spiral descent. No amount of stick waggling did anything. The aircraft came down in the safe area. This is why a full 50+ metre separation was being used between pilot and crowds and the parked aircraft. The batteries were demonstrated to the authorities at Old Warden following the incident as fully charged, as was the complexity and diligence of the electronic installation. The powerbox in use is designed to offer full redundancy with twin receivers in case one fails as well as twin batteries designed to switch if either battery fails. Everything pointed to a powerbox failure. As for the comment by Owdlad about poor pilot decision to fly in the weather conditions...Rubbish! He is a fantastically skilled display pilot used to demonstrating large WW1 models in wind far stronger and gusty than those on Sunday. It was an accident. You owe an apology!!Edited By Jez Harris 1 on 11/08/2016 18:11:47
  21. Nah..that's all of the Spice Girls gone now.. Cameron...Posh Spice Farage. ..Scary Spice Hodgson..Sporty Spice Boris Johnson. .baby spice Chris Evans..Ginger Spice. Jez
  22. Nope..definitely not. It melts instantly with glow fuel and yellows badly with petrol. Try waterbased varnish..ronseal etc Jez
  23. Fantastic video once again Dom. Did u get the last flight from Dawn Patrol with the tail chasing and explosions by any chance..I realise it had started to rain by then but fingers crossed. JezEdited By Jez Harris 1 on 20/06/2016 10:05:02
  24. Hi Bernard Have you tried Carbon Copy - I think they list one for about £20, Jez
  25. Hi, I have been getting a couple of tanks of petrol through a new Zenoah 38. I stupidly left it sitting on tick-over for quite a while and eventually it stopped and refused to re-start. Investigation shows a badly oil-fouled plug which even after solvent cleaning is now stained black. I dont mind fitting a new plug - other than the delay waiting for one!! However is it possible to use say a Butane torch to burn the fouling off - after all, this is what a hot engine does?? Dont want to go down the route of glass bead type cleaner as its almost impossible to remove all the beads and I dont want to end up scoring a liner etc.. Jez
