  1. Posted by Chris Channon on 04/01/2010 17:06:24: I was going to build the Vulcan but seeing that it is not going to happen, any ideas what i can put a .91 two stroke in?   Chris.   You can put it in my shed if you like   I shall finish my Bi-Stormer which i should have finished at Christmas so i'm behind already! I have plans for an electric Tiger Moth which i may start as well as Clive Smalley's "Ole Blue Nose" I have a Keil Kraft Ladybird kit which i might get round to building soon. Of course all the above might change and i will just fly what is already finished!!!   Julian
  2. Big Bandit, The Geoffrey Wellum book that i read is about him leaving school and joining the RAF on the eve of WW2. He was only 18 when he was posted to Biggin Hill,at the height of the Battle of Britain, with 92 Squadron. The first third of the book is about his training where he talks about the Tiger moth and Harvard. He also talks about friends dying in flying accidents during training and of his initial terror of his first combat. A good read-i lent my copy and never got it back
  3. Pearl Harbor is up there with Independance Day as total rubbish! I wonder how The Dambusters remake by Peter Jackson will turn out? Good aviation films. Battle of Britain-some scenes show that it was shot in the late 1960's,but still a good film. The Sound Barrier. The First Of The Few. Angels One Five. Appolo 13. Flight Of The Pheonix-The original.     I'm sure there are more.
  4. One of many favourite books-"First Light" by Geoffrey Wellum.
  5. Peevie Just confiming what weasel states regards build quality and flying. Are they suitable for 11 and 13 year olds?-my 11 year old son has one and his 5 year old brother flies it very well..............................
  6. Hi Peter, I'll use the throws that you have and adjust where necessary.I'm pleased that it all went well.As i stated in my earlier post,i'm building the smaller 58 inch version so will start with a SC 52 four stroke and see how it goes, maybe even electric!! It's a great model to build,if you enjoy building which i do. I'm hoping to finish mine during the Christmas break,i'll keep you all posted. I was looking at a plan of a 38 inch span free flight Barnstormer yesterday.Looks just right for a small outrunner and micro r/c,or maybe conversion to a Bi-stormer.................off to the shed now
  7. A nice looking model Peter,it's given me an incentive to complete mine although i'm undecided on what colour sceme to use.  I checked my plan and construction notes but couldn't find any recommendations for the control surface movements. I haven't found much on the Bi-Stormer either although i believe they were popular, along with David Boddingtons Barnstormer 35+ years ago. Keep us posted on its maiden flight.
  8. Peter, I'm building the smaller Bi-Stomer 60 (58 inch span.) I'm not sure if the control throws are the same as the 72inch version but,i'll check for  you later today. There is a link on D B Sport & Scale website of the 72inch version flying,it looks a relaxing aeroplane to fly-my son say's boring!! Just need to cover mine.   Julian
  9. I finish work on the 18th December and return 4th January-16 days off. The company that i work for closes for Christmas so i don't have a choice,not that i'm complaining!! I've a D B Sport & Scale Bi-Stormer to finish........
  10. There was once a man from Dundee Who got stung on the neck by a wasp When asked if it hurt He said"no not really" He can do it again if he likes.   This was by the late Roy Castle,it just makes me laugh.
  11. My son watched the programme with me and has added an airfix kit to his christmas list. I'm the same age as James May so his trip down memory lane reminds me of my own childhood.I built loads of airfix kits(and destroyed them with with fire and air rifles!) Great pictures David of "Big Beautiful Doll".I live about 4 miles from its airstrip and get a regular display. Its a shame Woodchurch Wings and Things show is no more. I go to Headcorn occasionally and have seen it and others.I've been up in ACDC-superb.Have you paid your £1 and had a guided tour of the hangar? There's not much too see only Turbulents,Stampes,Tiger Moths etc. I agree with Ken,James does need a haircut!
  12. Christmas, birthday, fathers day etc-the wife/family spends more on this hobby than i do!!!!!
  13. I will be there,i have been to the last 3 and both the show and the weather have always been good.I agree with John-its my favourite show. Its also close to home,30 minutes, which is a bonus. I would recommend it .
  14. If my wife wins she says that i can have it for my birthday.
