  1. ChrisB - have Messaged you info as your last post question on need to update off topic. There was a period during early Beta where the Horus would not allow Rx Fail Safe, only the Tx settings worked. If you set on RX then the Tx default would override, even if nothing set to work. I found this particularly frustrating and really do not see Tx menu setting of Fail Safe as any advantage! Put all the sticks and switches where you wish, looking at model to see the effect, and press Rx bind button briefly, LED flashes twice, done..............Simples.
  2. I have never used FrSky Fail Safe on the Transmitter (other than testing it during Horus Beta). I always use the Rx button set process and on most planes I set no throttle and a tight spiral so when it goes in its in our field. I have no compunction at all on trying to save the model, my ONLY concern is that it falls in boundary and avoids an incident. On Heli's (without panic mode) I set for negative pitch hoping its right way up when it fails so that I just might get it back with energy in the rotor in time to autorotate to reduce the impact. (I practice autorotation regularly. MR's are just set to centre all controls apart from killing throttle dead. I have a couple of near bullet proof foam wings and I practise ultra low recovery from FS conditions.
  3. How many people with money have gone out with FAR too powerful a car and injured, maimed and killed? Ditto Motorbike? Even AFTER training and a test. Common Sense cannot be trained nor controlled by registration. The owner of the drone had money beyond common sense let alone anything else. We are still back to the press maliciously promoting the big bad drone as the ultimate focus for public hate.
  4. The only caution needed is that Darwin has as yet failed with that pair of brain dead idiots so you might come into contact with them. £3000 3kg very powerful DJI Inspire as a raw beginner machine, deciding to go solo after incomplete training, takes along second person with no common sense at all, who then bitches to the press, who as expected take the anti-drone tack.
  5. At one of the clubs I have visited, at some point it was decided that petrol was a big risk/danger with people smoking in the pits, and of course stopping smoking there wasn't sensible (DOH!) so there is a separated petrol start/fuelling area (not that it said No Smoking anywhere near it!). The plane I saw using it was untethered and pointed closely straight at the back of pilots legs. Maybe they forgot that the thin line of long grasses used as "protection" die right back in the winter! Presumably it was also thought that methanol is not flammable. ( yes I know its not as great a risk, but really!) The problem as always is the people willing (or wanting) to be Committee rarely are actually active experienced pilots with good knowledge of modern processes and certainly from experience rarely have had any training in safety matters.
  6. Posted by Frank Skilbeck on 20/07/2017 21:46:48: I would have thought A, but turned 90 deg clockwise so all the aircraft face away from the pilots, but it would also depend what else is on the site. EXACTLY!
  7. Neither is as safe as possible, an uncontrolled plane escaping "A" will inherently veer left towards the back of pilots. "B" is so ridiculous I shall not comment futher!
  8. Posted by rowan clark on 21/07/2017 18:29:37: The problem is that, when I sync the setup to the Tx and connect servos I am only getting an output to the control surface over half of the stick movement and of that it is at full deflection with stick centred and moving towards centre as the stick is moved to the limit, stick the other way has no effect at all. Sounds like you have an "offset" value being applied to the channel outputs and or the centering value is wrong.
  9. Re: Deltas are 'speedy' flying machines and are the same for landing, even at 'high alpha'. No No No No No No Noooooooooooo
  10. Now to a really important question..................is Boris Johnson a REAL person?
  11. BTW, the automatic "drop down" Peter mentions above is FAR less than reliable, and even Spektrum Tx direct will often only bind 22mS when the manual for a model will say 11mS.
  12. That depends on whether you have the switchable module, which IS manually settable to 2 or X, and all you have to do is to navigate to the screen you bought from and look in "Files" for the Manual's pdf
  13. That's the trouble with Sundays, it'll be summer by the time our slot comes up!
  14. Posted by Nightflyer 2013 on 10/07/2017 21:03:52: With some of the other posts about after school and also ATC activities all were certainly popular clubs or etc that got youths into RTP. It would be good to see it happen nowadays, but as usual there ae many other distractions these days. Well, I run an after school engineering club using RC. Mostly RC cars, Mardave V12 one design class. Recently and without warning I took to the workshop that usually does car tuning and repair (with some RC Heli and Quad flying at the end) a few sheets of thin correx. bamboo skewers, tape, Bluetac (ballast), etc. Got them building chuck gliders, own design, NO plans or help on design until after they had a try. With minimal help (usually only on CG) all managed a flying "object" and over half managed in an hour to make a really decent glider. One made a full 3D fuselage high tail airliner lookalike that went dead straight the full length of the corridor in first test! And these are kids used to RC, even flying FPV! They really enjoyed it and the process would adapt to RTP.
  15. Got a load of RTP stuff in the shed (No 2!). Now retired head teacher used to do it with 11-14 year olds, profile WW2 combat............
  16. Not read the manual? Try top of page 3.
  17. While I would not normally point elsewhere, for specific MR people, try:- http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php
  18. I used between 20 and 30% in my 50 and 90 sized Heli's. I say used as I have not flown that size Heli for a year or so, been happy with smaller electrics. Still have them and plenty of fuel.
  19. Owned a Mentor, flown several, very under-rated model. Not flown a Funcub or even seen one fly in the flesh, they all worship at the altar of the Wot4 round here. My impression is that if you need flaps on a Funcub or a Mentor you are doing it wrong! Keep the Mentor and bypass the not that different Funcub to something more exciting, able and yet stable, try the HobbyKing EFX Racer, which can be set up super smooth and stable, its not just a rocket ship.
  20. Incidentally, government figures for the Chinook as at end 2016 were 66 extant with 60 in service.
  21. Yesterday late afternoon, while sheltering out of the sun in the garden, the distinctive sound and then sight of a Chinook heading SW towards Surrey. It was motoring, too.
  22. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 03/07/2017 19:37:19: Alas Dave I am a Futaba user so cannot adopt the Taranis mix..... I do wonder if a bit of extra camber might help..... If you can get switchable flight modes on your Tx then yes it will help. Not only camber but a little rudder to offset the "spin" direction you use. I launch clockwise spin with left hand while Tx in right hand for stick control. Launch mode therefore sets small amounts of aileron camber and rudder. A "speed" mode with slight negative camber also is beneficial, esp for the slope This does rely on having very good resolution and centering servos. I use Ripmax SD100 (Dymond 4.7). My Libelle was supplied with the Gening set, and they are frankly worse than rubbish, and cripple the control available with a decent set. Same with the Vagabond, too, where I used Savox.
  23. Posted by Rob Fairweather 1 on 03/07/2017 16:47:49: Two tiger moths and another moth type, followed by a spamcan, have just floated over Midsomer Norton. There, and I didn't realise Bullied Pacifics could fly.........................
  24. Also:- I found the Libelle not much good on the slope, as by the time there is barely enough breeze to get it away well you'd be better off with something (anything!) else. That down pointing super vulnerable rudder/fin is a killer in even good slope landings. I am going to take it to the next gliding day at our field and piggyback launch it, kill or cure!!
