There’s a thought, I was wondering where to put the transmitter but now it’s obvious. Add some servo assisted steering and send it up the slope to wait for me.

I started slope soaring this summer and have been carrying my currently modest number of gliders up the slope on my back. It’s ok but my aspirations include more models so I needed something better. The group of guys I fly with have largely latched on to the idea of converted golf trolleys. Seemed an excellent idea to me , so here’s my version. Parts list : Used golf trolley off from Facebook £10 elastic cargo nets from eBay £6 Bits I’ve saved over the years, Aluminium frames from old ruck sacks, bits of packing foam & pipe insulation and a car windscreen shade. That’s about it ; didn’t exactly break the bank. (Unlike the next addition to the glider fleet I fancy but that’s another story.) It still folds in half and even the wheels clip on/ off if needs be. I concur with most of the above comments but if I could fix just one thing it would be the search engine. As many have said there is a wealth of info hidden on the site but finding it is a nightmare. Suffice to say that a drop down list of filters coupled with a global word or phrase search should be the minimum . Tim

Saw Impala in the thread s thought I would add mine. It was built in the late 70s but sat in my loft for 40 + years . Converted to electric power in 2018 but finally had its ( and mine) maiden on the slope earlier this year. Thanks to Roger for the coaching! David, I have had my X10 for 2 years now . I tried OpenTx on companion before I bought the Horus and thought ok I won’t have a problem with that if I need it. So changing to OpenTx I always had as an option. However I have found the FrOS so versatile and just as easy to use that I have never changed. You can use the ‘canned ‘ mixes if you want or there is a separate external mixer if you prefer. I used the canned butterfly mix for a glider the other day for the first time.; absolute doddle. Help on ‘how to’ is indeed thinner on the ground but I have not found it a problem. Telemetry manipulation is the , I think, the weakest part of the FrOS when compared to OpenTx but is still comprehensive. For example the Parameters available from the new neuron ESC are not logged and the BEC amps can not be seen at all. You can discover them on OpenTx. That links into the comment above about FrOS updates. We are still waiting for one that fixes that issue. That’s about my only real gripe. My advice try it and see what you think. You can swap to OpenTx or Ersky at any time you want. Tim

I’ve had two of the cheaper makes go puffy . For the last 4 years just used 4 max. All as tight as ever they were. However as others have said doing the right thing by your battery and never abusing it is probably the real key to longevity. Perhaps I have just got better at looking after them. Not changing now though, that would be tempting fate. Tim

I have used the sub micro digitals in my gnat and they all work fine. I have run them at both normal and high frame rates and all is good so far but only a handful of flights so far. i ordered the next size up for my latest model and also 2 of the mini’s , all digital mg. The mini’s were fine but I could not get the micro digitals to work properly ,specifically 1 of the pair hesitated and lagged behind the other .As they were aileron channels this was not good. George sent me another but I had the same problem. Frame rate had no affect on the behaviour. George could not understand the issue and had not seen it before. The assumption was some bizarre radio compatibility issue Which did not make much sense to me given the other servos were all fine. We swapped the 2 digitals for analogues and they worked perfectly. So that model now has 2 digitals and 2 analogues on the normal frame rate. About a dozen flights so far and all is well. Aside from that anomaly they seem good and 4Max service as ever was ,as ever, very good. Tim

Phil, I was trying to remember the Walsall shop when I saw David’s post. Graingers indeed. I used to go over specially to admire the Macgregor Single channel sets they stocked. Eventually bought a Futaba Codematc single channel set. My go to shop was Models & Hobbies in Wolverhampton town centre. memories Tim

David, the only model shop I remember in the area was called Penn models. It was run by the late Pete Littley who was a member of Kinver Aeronauts Radio Control Society as was I. Grand names in those days. The shop started life as an iron mongers and rapidly became a fully fledged model shop . I believe it moved to Kingswinford where it is still run by his son. As Penn and Tipton are not far apart it may be this shop you are remembering. Can’t remember any more in the immediate vicinity. If it’s not the right one drop an email to the shop , the son is sure to know if there were any more. Tim

Eddie, I can not remember if the motors in the Edf unit were stamped with the KV rating or not. Since you have deconstructed yours Can you see any numbers on the motor body ? Tim -

Alex, that thrust is way too low . There is a table on page 9 which lists my test results for a 3S set up using various size intake sizes. Although fully charged my lipo was only a 25C zippy. The 600 g thrust I finally achieved was With a peak current of 42A and an rpm of 49000. ( rpm was a factor of 2 out in my table as I used poles rather than pole pairs in my pre test setup!) 4max lipos are usually top notch and are my usual go to lipo. The zippy just provided a better physical size for this model. Not sure what the problem is with your set up but a current measurement would sure help the analysis. Probably worth buying yourself a cheap watt meter. You just connect it in the battery lead and read the values. Tim
