Posted by Steve J on 03/05/2020 10:26:41: Posted by tigerman on 29/04/2020 09:36:03: Right or wrong the Government surly will have to easy the lock down soon The problem is that, for a variety of reasons going back decades, the UK NHS's and public health bodies were not prepared for a pandemic, so when the government saw the Imperial study and what was happening in Italy they panicked, closed schools, detained large numbers of people without due process and caused enormous amounts of damage to the economy. They are now faced with the problem of lifting the lockdown in a way that doesn't allow the opposition to claim that they are allowing tens of thousands of people to die and without admitting that they overreacted at the end of March. I don't believe the goverment panicked, they acted according to best advice available.Opposition parties are trying to politicise this but people are not stupid and I think the majority are behind the government. I don't see the opposition parties coming up with any better solutions but no doubt they will have all the answers if and when this is over with. Unfortunately many people needed these strict lockdown measures including some in my own club who caused the shutdown of flying at the field by not observing social distancing. As usual many suffer for the actions of a minority.

I have been using Graupner Vector Board for the fuze on my last four models. Have used Uhu Por and Epoxy depending on the joint, and although I find these adequate they do not give the same bond strength as they do with Depron. ie with Depron the material breaks before the bond as with good welding but this is not the case with the Vector Board. Wondering if anyone else has found a better adhesive? Edited By Michael Barclay on 01/05/2020 22:31:13

I for one will be glad to go flying again no matter what passers by think. I can walk to the club field, and will keep my distance from anyone else who happens to be there. Something else, I live alone as no doubt others on here do, and this lockdown has been especially hard for people like us. So those who criticise should perhaps take into consideration that not everyone is locked down in company.

I see no reason why responsible adults should not be able to fly if social distancing rules are obeyed. Statistics show that only 1% of cases result from outdoor contact. If anyone comes within ten feet of me they are met with a raised hand and told to keep thier distance. Same would apply at the field.

Michael Barclay replied to TigerOC's topic in All Things Model Flying

Posted by Andy Hat on 17/04/2020 09:49:36: I have a Hobbyking UK order arriving today and it includes lipos. I was prepared to receive it after lockdown was over but the order was processed quickly. Edited By Andy Hat on 17/04/2020 09:53:27 So it seems Hobby King UK are working again Andy. Thats good but I always check EU as well because delivery is often cheaper from EU. Mike

Posted by Martin McIntosh on 16/04/2020 16:33:09: MB, do you know if that includes lipos? Hello Martin. I do not know if it includes Lipos. I needed fiberglass cloth and thought I would try and see if Hobby King were delivering to UK again from EU and the order went through with no problems. EU orders are normally with me in 5 working days. If you need Lipos just try and place the order. If they are not delivering them to UK it will tell you. Mike.

Nice one Cliff. Thought you would have given us a few loops and wing overs? Mike. -
Cheap or expensive???

Second for Hobby King. -
Another Maxford Airco DH-2, but with FPV
Michael Barclay replied to Matt Halton's topic in Warbird kits
I can confirm that the DH2 flies very well. I built my DH2 from Depron. 57 inches span and 2.3 kilos. I don't go much on detail as my interest is in scratch building my own designs of different airframes and comparing the different flight characteristics, so I prefer to be getting on with the next model. You can see my DH2 in my albums and on Youtube if you wish. Good luck with the model Matt. It looks very nice. Edited By Michael Barclay on 08/04/2020 09:19:08 -
Posted by Ron Gray on 02/04/2020 09:45:28: I'm afraid not, I spoke to HK support yesterday and they said (and in writing too!) that the EU warehouse are only posting to local addresses only, not to the UK and that applies to everything! I tested this by ordering a non battery item and sure enough it wouldn't allow it through due to no postage options for the UK. This is the message you get: Edited By Ron Gray on 02/04/2020 09:51:02 Looks as though I got the motor just in time then Ron.... Mike

Posted by Ron Gray on 01/04/2020 12:50:38: Further to the above posts about HK, I tried to order some small LiPos from the EU warehouse, always OK in the past but now they are saying that they are not shipping to UK. Not sure if this is just for LiPos? That must only apply to the lipos as a motor I ordered from Hobby King 5 days ago arrived 9am this morning. Mike, Edited By Michael Barclay on 02/04/2020 09:33:49

Posted by Steven Webb (Steve Webb Models) on 30/03/2020 10:32:20: Posted by Michael Barclay on 30/03/2020 10:18:55: Hobby King are open for busines from Holland. I usuall get stuff within 5 days. Thanks Michael - I was kind of thinking what traders at home in the UK were still around but it’s valid that HK is open in Holland if that’s the case. It’s my understanding there are major delays importing because flights that are not running. Have you ordered since the lock down? I know many orders with Chinese Suppliers are months overdue because production in China has been affected. The virus originated in the ROC so they have been badly affected in some industrial areas. We have supplies from China and Tony Ray Aeromodel co is only just returning to work having been off work since January . it would be helpful if you could tell us if you have ordered in the last two weeks and did you get your orders ? Steve Hi Steve. I ordered an electric motor for my new build late on the 28th of March. It arrived at 9am this morning. Hope this helps. Mike.

Quick depron build plan needed for home flyer.
Michael Barclay replied to martin collins 1's topic in All Things Model Flying
Lots of simple builds on flight test site such as the Pietenpol which would be easy to convert to Depron. Should fly in small area if you keep it light. -
Posted by Tim Kearsley on 24/03/2020 17:52:56: Some seem to be missing the point. It isn't about whether you think going flying is low risk or not. The govt have stated the rules that we must adhere to for the time being. Those rules allow going out once per day, alone or with other members of your household, for exercise or for a few other essential reasons. If you argue that flying your model is exercise then so will the anglers and kite-flyers and photographers and... you get the drift. Tim. So if I take my daily exercise as I do by walking to the field where no one else will be flying, spending an hour enjoying myself and walking home where is the harm in that. Indeed as I live alone it may just keep me sane.

Posted by Stephen Smith 14 on 20/03/2020 20:52:22: Things have got so bad we have banned tongues when kissing other club members. Thats funny I had an email today from a French friend in Brest. Seems the Departement Finnistere has issued guidlines amongs which are " when seeing a friend in the street please do not hug him, shake hands, embrace, or kiss." From my fifteen years experience of living in France I just know they will find this so difficult!

Why close the field? Surely it should be up to individual members who should be able to fly if they wish and keep away if they feel there is a risk. Perhaps the members who voted to close the field are those who feel it's too risky and want to stop eveyone elses enjoyment as well, or perhaps those members who only fly in fine weather anyway. We live in a nanny state and now it seems we have nanny clubs.

I scratch built 3 WW1 fighters over the winter months and thought those who have not tried Vector Board might appreciate my opinion although others might not agree. Normally I build in 6mm Depron with wings covered in 50 gram glasfibre, but a club member kindly gave me a sheet of 6mm Vector Board to try. I found it to be very useful. Vector Board will flex without fracturing, does not tear easily, and is much more resistant to surface damage. I found the downside to be that it is not quite as easy to work with as Depron It requires more frequent changes of knife blades to ensure clean cuts. Glue joints using Uhu por or epoxy need a little more care to ensure a good bond. I do not find paint bonds quite as well as it does to Depron and more work is required to attain a nice finish. I also found that it picks up dirt easily so definately needs painting. I will definately use on all my fuselages in the future but will continue to use GRP covered Depron for the wings. This i because Vector Board does not lend itself to my method of building wings in a jig as it does not have the required rigidity.
