  1. Ah, seems the 100 models, one for each year of the bmfa/smae existence has been mentioned...
  2. Involving kids would be a good idea, thru clubs or schools perhaps. Also a cheap easy to make rubber powered model, schools have sports halls and playing fields these days ? For us bigger kids, and since it's a centenary, perhaps a model for every year since the bmfa/smae was formed ? I discovered a sheet plan for a "gasser" in the loft, and will be making an " aspin" converted to 2 channel control surfaces, with either diesel or electric power...hope to be made ready for summer...that's the plan anyway, subject to god's approval.
  3. Yes, a jar with a wide enough neck for a merco 61, large Nescafé jar, you can see the "bits of gum" floating about. Easy to agitate the engine parts and fluid. Salsa type low jar for smaller engines and Cox. I bought a small saucepan especially for model engine heating in oil and cleaning. Much more convenient than the old large saucepan scrapped by the cooking staff. You can only get away with setting the sprouts ON FIRE once, no matter how many times she tries.....long story and true.
  4. If rapid electronics can supply a 15v 3a voltage regulator I can get the scanner operational and scan that merco parts sheet as well as merco and Enya ( Sosam, coxmodelengine forum, well worth a look see ) info in a 1978/79 Ripmax modellers handbook, then go to library ( no land line or internet capable pc ) for my 45mins per week, as long as I pre book, internet session, I can post on here . I have seen a klg glow plug advert somewhere that had a ball end. In the ripmax handbook, the merco brand of glow plugs don't have ball ends. Merco parts with numbers etc. are listed in the ripmax handbook, as well as pictures and descriptions of merco engines of the time/era. An interesting read.
  5. As Brian says " I want I want I want !!!" ? Not had time to enguire of Axminster yet. Had an other email, what ever I have ordered is on its way ! I will not open these emails....maybe a mrx has bought a milling machine for me ????? I don't have that sort of luck, or know anyone who would do that for me... Probably proxxon site catalogue request results in nearest branch to me sending catalogues ? Makes sense, modern customer service cost if I was gunna buy stuff, it would from a nearest branch ? Anyway will be contacting Axminster hq... They are sending me a freebee, I can dream I suppose...
  6. You have seen the merco marine 61 parts exploded view sheet I posted some time ago ? Print it off for future reference. Nicely gummed up engine. I use hot oil to free off engines, heat and desolves the caster gum a bit. Fuel, meths and petrol are good for cleaning castor gum etc. But do it outside !!! Have a fire extinguisher at hand !!! I use small quantities, 1/4 of a litre or less, but it's still a very real fire risk. I also soak the parts over night in a suitable container with a lid. The "cleaning fluid" can be filtered and re used until spent. I have some further info in a ripmax catalogue, but must crack on with domestic and car stuff, but can post again this evening. Take your time and enjoy. Ps don't know if petrol kills glow plugs, you have seen the reaction between unpowered glow plugs and methanol ? They do react with each other, a further fire risk. You have been warned !
  7. Nice, been looking for a ready made cowl, possibly bottom of a pop bottle, with black base, or similar...
  8. Thanks for that...HK site is very "busy"...ordering 3 colours to try...feedback of experience when the film is used. Not sure if there is gunna be any import duty pushing price up, hope not.
  9. I did request some proxxon cataloques via proxxon site ? Anyway bank says account ok Will find Axminster tools email/phone number and in cogneto ask ... The email, unopened, suggested I ordered something from them, not the case. Didn't know they are proxxon agents...
  10. Anyone use this company ? Anyone had an email from them about an order ? I have never heard of this company so have not bought any thing from them, so why an email from them. I have not opened the email not will I. Getting in contact with the bank now...
  11. Wow rapid electronics, I know your very good, you have been for years, but this is beyond !! Really well done ! I need to order some voltage regs and serviceall contact cleaner/ lube, mail order and pay Pal, or order and pay via phone and card...
  12. Lol ? I already have house chores, washing up being one of them. She cooks, I wash up. That's the same for every married couple ? Anyways, still researching/looking for a milling machine which must be able to accommodate the valve guide job.
  13. Will have to measure up, pick up only from Marlborough, a good hike from north Wales but price is good I think....thanks for the heads up..
  14. Thanks guys, much appreciated, never got anything from hobby king, time to become a customer, just for film for now, must stay focused, just want covering material. I'm gunna have to register with them to see video... Anything else needed to use that film like balsa lock it similar ? Any pitfalls using HK film or is it as easy as solar film ?
  15. Richard, what film from hobby king would that be please ?
  16. I didn't participate as I was not a member in 2020. I didn't even realise there was a magazine, there wasn't back in the 80's, 90's. I am sure I would have said, if asked, I would read it from cover to cover.
  17. In New Zealand I think, you have to vote, you don't have to in this country..... Take that the right way, apply what you glean...we won't get fooled again, good song ! Every time I click the reply button this post comes up ?? Sorry, though it was New Zealand, it's not, it's Australia ( and Belgium apparently ), please don't take offence, a simple mistake is all... In this country you don't have to vote. Someone was mentioning about a vote/ poll about bmfa mag... Hard copy for me please, no land line, no internet, doing this on stand alone internet phone. Paper mag, no batteries needed etc.. If I had to pay say £1 extra to get a hard copy for the whole year, then so be it. Cover price in bmfa mag is £1.25...per copy I suspect people would buy one copy....then not bother. Keep it a hard copy and free to members please. An opt out of a hard copy with a membership discount would mean the hard copy would die...unless the mag is produced and funded by advertising... How many bmfa members are there now ? Every member will see and advert, will they buy because of it ? I hate all the adverts popping up all the time when using internet. The internet is great at advertising, they pop up in milliseconds, yet you wait ages for the internet content you waiting for/ want to see... But that's for a different thread...
  18. Puzzle ? DOH, yes I understand now ! ? Ed, please could you post a picture of your chosen machine and info so I can research your choice please. Much appreciated. My only real option is a bench mounted unit. Thanks.
  19. 6mm bolt, 3mm screw remains...inch square 18 gauge "washer"...
  20. Wm18, £2k,academic for me whether it's plus vat, not checked. Would need new shed to house that, meaning new house, meaning a lottery winner needed ! Your machine, CNC ? Nice anyway. I will struggle on with the lathes...listening to classic FM... Need a stout bit of angle iron to mount carb, then mount in chuck, 4 jaw so can centralise dead on. No room for error. Will also have to get a 2, and 4mm left hand drill else screw remains could end up being driven to the bottom of the hole. Great risk of lh drill breaking if screw decides to unscrew. Used end mill to remove the deeply recess float chamber screw, worked a treat with pillar drill. Just this last troublesome screw to sort out on the carbs. Superdreams, nightmares more like. Sorry about language...
  21. That 70 proxxon would easily do the first job, a 3mm screw sheared off ( not by me ) in a "tower" in a bike carb, quite recessed, so mig method ( 3 others removed, made washer to protect carb, weld washer to proud remains, weld tapered bolt to washer, as much heat as I dare, patience patience patience and a few please god's, they came out, well corroded in which is why they sheared ) not an option. Machine not big enough to take a cylinder head ( twin 4t ) to machine a butchered ( again not by me ) valve guide so I can make driver/extracted. Other milling jobs on a ( I think ) model De Winston stationery steam engine, ( De Winston, caernarfon, similar engine in Glyn Llifon, caernarfon area, fed dibna ). Carb job has no room what so ever for any inaccuracy... I can dream, which is ironic as the bike is a wet one, 400cc. I will keep researching. If allowed we may be going Guildford way this summer, seen a Warco sign on that route, if still no mill, will call in. Anyone like some RC boats, pm me.
  22. Thanks robin, wilco....suspect I'm gunna need 5 jam jars !
