  1. Hermes service is patch of then but not good hear. Lad ordered 2 seperatly items from Amazon, both packages coming via Hermes, on the same van. One was delivered all ok, the second never turned up. Excuse was the e condition package, on the same van, to the same address was, wait for it, the second package address was Not Found! What ?? Anyways Amazon sent 2 new items out free of charge as well as a gift voucher! Keep it up Hermes, your service is great !
  2. Hi ED, the parts you very kindly sent me will do fine and extend my original gp40 working life. I now have some spares for this engine to keep it going, and when finally "run out" , a cylinder head etc. to play with for further petrol fuel experiments. The spare crank may find its way into a home brew engine...   The gudgeon pin pads are still "domed" and will be fitted on next strip down and clean...   Itching to get back RC flying...   If there is a seller's rating system on here I give you 100per cent.   Thanks again, much appreciated, stay safe out there...rich. 3. The lad has the tracking number and checked, not even been picked up according to his phone, explain that one. Had problems with Hermes before, wonder if it's the same driver...paid RM nearly £6 for a signed for delivery to South Wales from north wales which simply "disappeared"....read the name, I wiki'd that... Was thinking of ordering some other stuff from an electric fly site but that will come via Hermes, having a real rethink now... 4. My Hermes is the best carrier out there, NOT ! I will never never ever use My Hermes !
  5. Further, I live in wide north wales.
  6. Thanks for the replies. Will do some more research, to include that is G5 plug. I live miles from the nearest club who usually stock glow fuel. I know of Weston glow fuel but carriage can be expensive. 4 gallons and it's carriage free, or was, but 4 gallons... Petrol I can get easily. The clunk tanks I think can tolerate petrol but what about the clunk fuel pipe which needs to be flexible for the clunk to "clunk" ? Is the yellow fuel pipe which is petrol tolerant flexible enough ? 7. I though I had asked about this before.... I am on a tight budget, and have in the past bench run a Magnum gp40 glow engine on petrol with about ten to one two stroke oil. From memory it ran quite well but the glow plug was permanently powered. I know you can get glow plug size spark plugs and ignition system. Has anyone experimented with this cheaper and more easily bought fuel ?
  8. Malcolm Fisher, yes please....was making research to find you, in these covid times. I have size 20 feet and didn't want to......... Anyways yes please, thank you, I am very interested... It would be good to home brew as I am on a tight budget and at least 60 miles from a model shop. I doubt d1000 can come thru the post these days, lipo''s can't easily apparently. D1000 is great ( glue sniffers you know nothing, we are the originals....) but expensive, glow fuel seems to be catching up as well. Southport is about 100 miles from me. Thanks for all replies. Stay safe out there. Edited By Rich Griff on 14/01/2021 21:30:06
  9. Car wheel balance weights, stick on, weight marked on them, lead free but similar weight, safer.
  10. I remember traveling to an airshow in Fairford i think it was, from North Wales. Along the way we passed on the left, sitting on some runway which was close to the road, a sad looking Lightening, all graffitied up.   I suggested we should tow it home...😀   Was that Binbrook I wonder and is it still there ?   An other aircraft spotted years ago, coming down the hill into welshpool from the coast. At the roundabout, turn left up the hill towards Guildsfield, the scenery opens up to see the valley and hills in the distance. We saw a really low camouflaged Vulcan pop up and hugging the ground, hedge hopping ? It pulled up and turned 180 degrees and roared off back to balay way, still hedge hopping. What a sight and privilege. It must have been training so as to stay under radar... Edited By Rich Griff on 14/01/2021 10:01:09
  11. I don't think the 500ft rule applied to the Osprey pilot that flew down our valley about 2 years ago. He was low, I mean low, flying from Snowdon direction towards the TV mast, pylons and high voltage cables that cross the valley at that end. I used to live on the coast many years ago and one Sunday afternoon saw the black sr71 is it, the very Fast high altitude reconasance aircraft. It flew down the valley over the bridge quite quietly, then opened the throttles leaving 2 black lines and roared of towards tywyn. From where I was standing he was well below the mountain top horizon, so was well under 500 ft. The Mach loop is a cool place for a free air show.
  12. Thanks for the replies, will do some more research. Trying to find a cheaper way for fuel. Financially restricted.
  13. Anyone using home brew diesel ?   Anyone know where I can get medical castor, medical parraffin, ether and ipn ?   Would 99percent rubbing alcohol be a good substitute for ipn ?   Any chemists on here ?   Will reread the fuel thread as someone mentioned ether less homebrew... 16. Yep, always pre flight check, even valley gets that wrong on occasion... Nose up full throttle etc etc etc... A ready built will need a lottery win... Good idea about servo orientation and movement direction is a good idea.... All my model planes have same position and operation, just a thing I like to do...from the days of non servo reversing...
  17. More than 1 model memory would be nice but I have very limited funds.   Each model would be trimmed out with the tx trims, then adjusted mechanically, in theory at least.   A note book with each individual models trim needs would surfice, but then again it's all down to cost really. 18. Gary, would that be Bangor North Wales, and you in the cockpit in a hawk?
  19. Thanks for the reply Dennis. Some more research to do on this such as will it drive the standard Futaba servos and the 6 channel spectrum Rx, the next Rx up from the 410...
  20. Anyone got one of these, any problems ?  Mode 1?   Edited By Rich Griff on 10/01/2021 19:06:43
  21. Anyone successfully ran a 2t model engine with petrol? I did a bench test on a Magnum gp40, well run in. It ran well on petrol ( may have been leaded or LRP at the time, 1990's ) with 2t oil at about 15 to one and the glow permanently powered. It was an experiment to see if it would. I know you can get miniature spark plugs that fit the glow heads....
  22. Yep, that's the advert that sold this helo to me, and many others I suspect.   Anyways, I re emailed Geoff at Perkins this morning and had a reply this afo saying they/he e mailed me yesterday, but it's not on my phone anywhere.   No matter.   Today's reply asked if I was doing auto take off from the floor, yes. He also said that the throttle trim was a "mode change" function ? Doesn't mention that in the manual. He said that there "test" one also moved to the left on auto take off. He has asked for a video of an auto take off etc. but I will need the lads help with that one, to film and attach to an e mail. It was dry and warmer and virtually breezeless this morning so was gunna go to the football field ( it's big enough ) but covid prevented such. The covid report today clearly shows covid progress along the A55, with a red dot in peny, about a mile from home.   Stay safe dudes. Edited By David Ashby - Moderator on 22/01/2021 16:13:49
  23. Thanks for the replies, will research both films mentioned, but price is important due to limited financial funds.
  24. Solar film have lite span in the colours I want and have balsa lock, so happy days. They only have solar film seconds in the colours I want.... What is the modern equivalent to solar film please, and/or what do you use, a film rather than a Tex.
  25. Hi Trevor, take your time with it. When it's ready to fly, link the throttle and set the gyro's.   Check the trims are central ( trim 1 bleep, then back opposite way to hear long bleep. Do this for all trims, did the throttle trim bleep at all ?   When done, hold the helo and press button A, auto take off. You will " feel" any out of trim. Set throttle for very slight climb, then trim out for hover. Mine seems to need 15 bleeps right aileron and 10 rear elevator at hover rotor speed.   If you hook your finger and thumb thru one of the skids, you will feel any out of trim. When trimmed for the hover ( change in rotor speed unsets trim ) I gradually gave the helo more "freedom".   Eventually I just let go and it did hover for a minute but was not rock steady. You really need a sports hall for still air and airspace. Do not fly outside as they tend to disappear quickly. Take your time. Still waiting for reply from Perkins about the office test of one taken from stock. Will let you know the outcome. Edited By David Ashby - Moderator on 22/01/2021 16:13:08
