  1.  Hey Timbo great minds think alike. Me and my mate were discussing about a Red Arrows Hawk only last week. What a fantastic kit this could be ...I'm sure any manufacturer would have a job to keep up with demand.No.4 on my desirable planes list.
  2. It's this or the lottery.Yes please!! Lottery...Not a hope in hell.
  3.  Great Planes 72" Super Sportster with an OS120pumper...built from the kit and just sold after 7 Years of sheer pleasure. My Flair Yak54 with Fuji 32cc even though the U/Cneeds repairing + new Carbon prop! Overlander Tucano elec. See threads elsewhere on this forum in Electric Flight. A great model to look at and fly.   Regards Brian......Like your Gee Bee Erflog
  4.   I agree with Bustergrunt, HS55's should be adequate Use the inner hole on the servo arm if possible.Good Luck let us know how you get on.
  5.  Flying all day on Thursday.... Micro Show Flyer would not rotate as grass to long -should have hand launched!! Model cartwheeled resulting in broken fuz. Fly Yak 54 with Fuji 32cc petrol and 18x8 carbon prop.Maiden flight engine and everything checked at home all well, motor sweet as nut. Took off flew for about 5mins shook my left leg to expel any unwanted deposits and decide to do a stall turn.Great, motor cut (don,t panic Mr Manwearing) did'nt think I could make the last 90 deg.turn with resulting tipstall so landed on the last bit of grass straight into a woodchip pile taking off the undercart and a few creases in the epoxy fuz + 1 broken carbon prop(Ouch) Enter farmer with 8 gang mower cuts the grass really short like a bowling green.Look at MSF and mutter a few choice words. Late Lunch and time to reflect on my happy day's flying thus far. Well might as well make it three in a row (and a bonus) Out with the TUCANO all charged up mate hand launches and up and away she goes. Clubmates look on in awe at the speed and presence of the model (not my flying). Another 3 flights and my faith in human nature is almost restored.  The moral of this story is fly the bloody Tucano FIRST!! My mate has the red version and he loses power as described in the above threads..I think the ESC is the problem? My set-up as described on my previous thread works a treat and on a BEC system using 2mini servos Rudd.& Elev. and 2HS56's for ailerons. This really is one good model.
  6.  Hi Tim, What has happened to you has done for all of us at one time or another. My Tucano was very tail heavy as hard balsa had been used and this was only discovered when correcting for the CofG. Result----cut out the entire tailplane elevators fin and rudder and build new parts out of softer balsa. I suggest cutting out the remains with a fine razor saw-try to take out evenly on both sides. glue in two new pieces of balsa sheet using the fin to gauge the correct thickness of the re-made slot. I would use aliphatic glue rather than expoxy but either will suit. Do not use cyano!! Then sand off the suplus when the glue is dry to blend in with the shape of the rear of the fuz. I would personally make a new fin but Timbo's suggestion is equally as good. Don't worry about any small gaps between the original fuz and new inserts.these can be filled and sanded with light filler. There is nothing that can't be repaired by using a bit of the grey matter and this is what modelling is about. To Throw the model away would be sacrilege!! Let us know how you get on,it can be done.
  7.  Rob,read your post let us know how your model flies. Have you used the same motor and ESC as fitted to my model? Be interested to hear and as Alvin says you NEED flying speed to get down safely, this is definately not a 'floater' but it does look good in the air and is something different to the usual collection of RTF's Has anybody else got a Graupner Micro Show Flyer. My other favourite E-flyer but if anybody can finish it in 3 hours as per the review then I take my hat off to you. I fitted HS56's and for a start all the sevo boxes had to enlarged plus setting up the elevator servos, did my head in but worth the effort because it flies a treat. Happy Flying!!
  8.  Hi Alvin and other members, read my thread on the Fly Electric and Li-po's regarding my experience with my Tucano. Sorry that this is a bit of a late reply but if any of you still have a Tucano to fly then it is worth noting that even a 3700mAh  3S 11.1v li-po pushed right up to the front of the fuz.will only just bring up the correct C of G which is on the main spar. Overlander told me that the original model was designed for 2400Nimh or larger and the model would balance easier by moving the the heavier battery to obtain correct COG forward or back as the case may be. The 3700mAh li-po is much lighter and therefore needs to be as far forward as possible. The flying characteristics are great and the model does look great in the air. I followed the recommendation of using the HET 2912-10 vector motor,Jeti40amp ESCswinging a 11x7E propellor. Have no idea what the AUW is 'er indoors hid the scales' . Be interested to hear from anyone else on this topic as I think this is a great model and cheap at the price.
  9. Hi Dennis, just an afterthought about OS spares and most other engines as well. John D.Haytree has always come up trumps for me but perhaps you tried him 1st!His phone No.01626-852330 might be useful in future.
  10. Hi Erfolg and others.Just picked up on this thread and have gone through the minefield enough times! I have various sizes of Kokam packs as they seemed to to be one of the best makes at time I started into the foray of electric flight. I bought a Micro Show Flyer sometime ago after reading the review. I decided to change to Poly Pro packs by Overlander and also bought their Tornado charge through balancer. This really is an excellent piece of kit catering for all types of balance plugs. The 2500mAh pack seemed to perform ok after charging with a cheap li-po charger. However,a brand new 3700mAh Poly Pro was fitted to my Overlander Tucano having been fully charged ( I thought) using the same charger. Both above packs 11.1v3s. Between 5-7 minutes the motor shut down and I was lucky to have enough speed to land safely. No Aerobatics-just flying and trimmimg the model. After several attempts at charging this new li-po the charger finally stopped beeping and appeared to charge as normal. The charger cut out indicating that charging had finished but on disconnecting leads and plugging back into the balancer there was no sign of the 3 green led's.All I got was a red led and 2green led's flashing at the same time. I assumed the battery was faulty and returned same to Overlander with a covering letter explaining exactly what had happened.John .... the MD of Overlander ran through the events with me and then asked what charger I had used. When I told him the make and the supplier he was quite frank with me and stated that they had had a number of battery failures with modellers using this make of charger. On his advice I purchased their e-STATION 301 DX Digital Charger/Discharger and after charging various li-po,ni-cad and ni-mh batteries can honestely say that this is an excellent quality product. John very kindly replaced the damaged li-po free of charge for which I was truly grateful. His answer to the problem should be a warning to all in that his conclusion was that that the cheap chargers do not always read the correct voltage of a given cell pack and therefore cease charging before the battery is fully charged. What surprised me more was that in the case of the new 3700 li-po the voltage was reached but the unit was putting a gradually reduced charge despite the fact that the voltage was showing 12.6v Below the voltage reading on the screen display is a charged capacity reading which continues going up until the battery full alarm goes off. I now think that just under £60 I have a charger that will fully charge virtually any pack that I have and have some piece of mind. I will PM anyone who wants to know the make of the rogue charger and I also accept that there are other good chargers on the market.
  11. Hi JETSOME you have topped the bill but only by a short head or was it pain the neck.I'll show respect to my elders from now on. Hi TIMBO it was NOT me who bought your radio I don't do Welsh you see boyo is'it.So some poor young flyer has tranny with a Welsh menu I suppose you told him that that was the latest technowhatsit!!! Wish I still had my old Watkins copycat still got the amps and guitars and a new box of tricks but a Watkins it definately ai'nt.Back to Alan good choice mate makes sense to start off with the new tech. Different subject...anybody had experience in painting an epoxy fuzz. All legal suggestions welcome. Was going to use Valspar but the tin is nearly empty.Welcome to the forum 'corgas' I'm not new to flying but like you-new to forums. Not sure you'll learn anything but it's a great hobby!
  12. Hi Alan it's a pity that we can't cut all the crap being said on this thread and talk about RADIO Sets.I am probably the oldest fart flying as I had one of the first proportianal radio sets in the UK made by RCS Ltd in Hounslow. There were the inevitable teething problems but it ousted reed sets almost overnight. I have since always used JR because it was quality, referring to my Apex 8 comp.radio and 628X receivers (PCM).Never let me down once in nearly 18yrs. I also have a 652 and 662 and all three were bought s/hand. I have now bought a JR9X Mk2 complete with PCM Receiver for c.£200 again s/hand and only a couple of months old. The guy decided to go down the 2.4Ghz route as he is young and does not possess at least 6'X' type PCM receivers which at the time were c.£100 each. So for me it was pointless starting again on a Specktrum-good as they are! Friends in the club cannot find fault and probably its 'way to go' but don't dimiss a good s/h 35MHz set if you see one advertised here or on BMFA Classifieds (sorry Ed) I've used all makes of servos but my fav. are the dependable and cheap JR591's. Good luck with whatever choice you make. I am told that the Specktrum has a patent on it for five years so there will not be any changes in the near future.Futaba, however are not in the same position and will probably bring out a more advanced set before I kick the bucket!! Anyone else remember RADIO CONTROL SUPPLIES Ltd HOUNSLOW?
  13. Bought a new Saito 180 absolutely superb, used in Protech 72"Giles 202.a very powerful motor.Used ali. mounts direct to firewall and on board glow engine mounted inverted. Have a Laser 150,Beautifully engineered by Neil Tidey, have used both types of mounting with no problems. Have a Enya 120 FS as yet un-run and will power a 72" Scale Tucano. My only other 4 stroke is an OS48Surpass and sold a 120.Pumper which never missed a beat in 8years and it was secondhand then! I note Chris Dorn's dilemma but the Saito 180 would be a good choice. There are 3Flair Yak 54s in our club all powered by the Fuji 32ATM Petrol These are superb motors, easy hand start and 100%reliable. The Yak needs the weight up front but as I don't know the new Adrenaline you 'pays your money and makes yer choice'but petrol and big four strokes are way to go in large models.Be interested in your final choice Chris but good luck!!
  14. Good article by Dave Ashby on balancers and li-po charging.Bought the Tornado one by Overlander which,as Dave says, comes supplied with a very complete pack of leads all for under £20.I have decided to stick with their Poly Pro series as they are my most expensive packs! I can just squeeze a 2500Ah 3s into my Micro Show Flyer and after several flights now the three Led's' before and after charging, glow without a flicker thus saving another trip to the Bank of England! I would recommend the Tornado to anyone as it is simple to operate with all charging leads supplied. As a Footnote I have several Kokam Li-po's which do not come with a balance plug. Has anybody had any problems with Kokam's that have had a fair bit of use?
  15. Hi Guys new to the forum so forgive any topics previously dicussed. I have built and flown my Micro Show flyer with all the correspondence followed as per the two reviews in the model mags. Just managed to sqeeze in a 2500mh lipo with an Axi 2808/24 up front.Really nice model but to put together in three hours! not a chance. All my HS56 servos required an enlargment of the the servo cut outs to be made and to set up the model ,especially the elevators was a nightmare. I maybe getting old and senile but I challenge anyone to finish this model ready to fly in three hours.Prove it and I'll buy you more than a pint! Has anyone built and flown the same ? Be very interested to hear your comments. Latest model is Overlander's 45" Tucanco (black & yellow) model looked superb so bought one and completed same only to find that the CofG was way out even with a 3700mh lipo pushed as far forward as possible.Problem overcome by making new tailplane @ rudder of MUCH lighter balsa (friend had the same problem).Anyone else got any views on this model.Hope to fly this week!
