  1. NONE! grump, grump, grump. Sods law, again   my 'working at home day' today and the weather is cloudy windy and grey. last 2 days in the officer, bright sunny skys and no wind. I'm also waiting for postman pat to bring me my new leccy goodies from 4-max.   Hoping fri evening will be good.
  2. Another shot of mine, just finished covering, although not yet put the ailerons back on. Wing is removeable, about 37" span. 2 x std servos (Ail and elev), leccy converted for ease or travelling and can be flown super quick or slow; it has a great glide due to think semi wing.
  3. Myron,   How about this, a variation on red/white/blue. Base soloarfilm white on top and red underneath, with solartrim decoration.   Its a SIG Wonder, built from kit and a great flyer. Converted to leccy and handlaunched has a great glide to to think semi wing, but also a speed demon (90+mph), should you wish it. Also packs down really small and can be taken anywhere. Obviously, I haven't yet refitted the ailerons)   That said, i'm having the same problem; I want to strip back my BH Speed Air 40 (IMHO the orignial ARTF scheme is gastly), beef up the glueing, convert to leccy and add a lipo access hatch and recover. I just don't know what scheme to use. I quite like the red bull scheme; black or metallic dark blue, but the decals costs £20!!   Regards
  4. 4ch Uno Wot was my trainer, solidly built and easy to cover the foam veneer wing using solartrim for the first time.   trainers need to be rugged; some artfs seem a litte fragile - great looking cnc cut things that turn to matchstick at the very idea of a tuff learner landing.   If it does have to be an ARTF, the seagull range are good, either ic boomerang or ep innovator
  5. That is always sunny, with little wind when I'm at work; the weekend is then overcast and raining.   You bang the wings or tail on the garage door or car door when talking out your new built pride and joy on its maiden flight.   You end up with cyno all over your fingers, some on the hairy hinge which then drys toobefore you manage to get the hinges fully pushed in   You don't read the instructions, glue stuff together, then realise its wrong
  6. I started out with ARTFs, for all the good reasons listed, cheap, limited emotional attachement and its (in the main) built straight.   I really love the seagull range, extremely good value and the quaility is top notch - Hangar 9, without the heftty price tag (have you seen the price of their new Saratoga!!!!). My Hangar 9 pulse XT40 was also really good quaility and a great flyer, if rather expensive.   I have had a seagull innovator EP, PT19(46 size) ands now got a 46-55 size Edge 540. all where well made, with good quaility balsa and ply - infact almost as solid as my kit built a/c.   I mostly build kits now (Chris Foss 4Ch Uno-Wot, Nijhuis Hurricane, Sig 4star40, Sig Wonder (fantastic and underbuilt aircraft), RBC Gloster G40, Aeronaut Vampire and K&A Models 90mm EDF F-100). Gosh, didn't realise I'd done so many. That said, I've just order a BH Speed Air 40 as my general cheapo hack, which I don't mind pranging. However, I am tempted to strip off the horrible covering, check/glue all joints and then recover in a better scheme (either yellow  cub style or a metallic blue red bull scheme......or.... I really do need to decide soon and order the solarfilm!)
  7. Being a time limited modeller (work and family- and too many other models to build and fly), will there be a CNC plan pack Peter?
  8. Peter,   Will there be a CNC set/plan pack available for this soon; traplet or myhobbystore?   I would love to build this, and the Denight Special, but do not have the time to cut out all the bits by hand (my hobby jig saw is rubbish and I am still finishing my Sig Wonder, 4Star40, and Nijhuis Hurricane. (all about 90%)   Thanks for all your superb designs, keep 'em coming.
  9. Try this: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=490620   Otherwise, I have a set of plans I traced of my Uno-Wot when I built itm just in case I needed to rebuild, would these do?
  10. Innovation and inprovement cannot be stopped; the WOT4 is just getting a 21 century makoever and subtle improvments. IMHO.   Surely this is a good thing, in the world of ARTF keeping the WOT4 design alive can only be done this way. Hopefully it will persude ARTF'ers to then build after their ARTF has crashed.   Don't forget IC engines have improved drastically, servos are digital and 2.4 GHz has proliferated into most clubs - don't tell me you don use any of these and that you fly a 1970's engine, servos, 35Mhz and a proper build WOT4!   Long live the WOT4, and don't forget the venerable Uno-Wot, which i still fly, only its been electrificated
  11. Gary,   What did you end up using in the end? I am also about to convert mine to leccy.   I have converted my UnoWot, Sig Wonder and Seagull Edge 540 (46 Size), although the Edge is uses the Turnigy 5055-600kv motor size leccy motor with 5S Lipo (similar to the Wot4 motor shown on the 4-max site.    I would prefer a 4S Lipo and want perfermance consummate with a low wing sports trainer - i.e speed enough B cert; I have the Sig Wonder and EDF stuff for speed.
  12. I think is will stil be cheaper. on Tower's orders i never paid any addition import costs, unlike tamjets.
  13. Hi Yorkman,   Where is the field you fly from, do you have a grid reference or similar of your site? I have been using the slight slopes on the top of the salisbury Plain white horse trail above Urchfont. Problem is its a very rough landing; I've already had to epoxy my F-16s nose back on.   I have decided to move my club membership from Boscombe Down to the Flying Druids (Rollestone Flying Consortium) at www.flying-druids.co.uk. They fly from a strip at the back of Carter barracks in Bulford and have another site at Airman's cross/corner near stonehenge.   Looks like both sites can take my 'normal' stuff; i.e 60 size Edge 540, Uno Wot and large EDF jets. That said i do enjoy the Phase 3 F-16 and Sig Wonder for some hand launched speed rush   I did once pop along to the Warminster Club, but got the impression they where constrained by the Gliding Club and RAF. Flying Druids Club is a conortium and should allow flying at anytime.
  14. May have actually  just found the holy grail.   Actually a club (consortium of previous rollestone and flying druids clubs), operating from 2 great site. Flying at any time and seemingly a really relaxed club. Club links and listing from BFMA are not up to date. Hopefully al will be well   best of all 20  mins from home and only 5 mins from work.
  15. Age 35, baby on the way and he/she will be starting RC flying at any early age!   Sig 4 Star 40 (unfinished) Uno Wot 4 Ch - every day flyer Seagull Edge 540 - every day/every weather flyer. Sig Wonder (just finishing now) Nijhuis 62" Hurricane (will finish it at somepoint ) Phase 3 F-16 - every day flyer 55mm EDF F-86 Sabre (ready for recyling now) 70mm EDF Sapac Viperjet 90mm Full Composite F-100 Super Sabre (80% completed K&A Models Kit)   All are electric/converted to electric, last IC was a Hangar 9 Pulse which I regrettably sold last year.   and a whole pile of dead ones which have long since beeb recycled.
  16. Does anyone fly electric in Wiltshire?   I am trying to find a good flying site for electric aircraft. Preferably not a club, I know of the clubs near me and I never had consistant access to fly when a member of the Boscombe Down club; what I really need is a good flat field, that can be used to fly anything from my Phase 3 F-16 and Sig Wonder (both hand launched) or a sedate Uno Wot or Edge 540, both requiring a good 50m of turf ot tarmac for landing and ROG and a decent flying space without trees and cattle/public!   The reason not a club, is I want to be able to fly at anytime and on any day; most clubs round me have limited access (only a few people have a key and/or there are limitations on use). I can fly at the club te remainder of my fleet.   To date, I have been using some slopes at the top of Salisbusy Plain, but the ground is a bit undulating, which has already casued a few repairs!! I have a great flat field at the back of the house, but this has horses in   Anyone know of any good fields or friendly farmers, I'm in Devizes, but happy to travel 30+mins for a good flying field.???
  17. Click here to see the Sig Wonder   A really great kit, easy to build and a great flyer, from easy fkying sport to agressive racer, all at the touch of a TX switch. Only 18" long and 36" wingspan, easiliy transportable. It onlt takes a few days to build.   Available from Pegasus Models in the UK for 55 quid. By the way, if you want a trad kit, the only place I can find in the UK with a large and diverse stock is Pegasus.
  18. I bet you could order one from the States, including postage for £100 less. Another example of the Brit modeller beeing ripped off in the UK; no wonder so many of us use the likes of Hobby King etc.   I have been using Tower Hobbies in the states for a while. Really quick delivery and cheap prices and postage, particulary if you join them as a member. They stock Great Planes and Top Flite as their largest stock. might be worth a try and save some dosh - shame the UK keep loosing out, but then what do they expect us to do in the current economic climate, roll over and pay through the nose - I don't think so
  19. Weight is the key; aim for about 100watts/Lb for sedate, 150 watts/Lb for sporty/aerobatic.   I am building a SIG Wonder, which was orignially designed for a 15-19 IC 2 stroke. This weights 2Lb (ish) so I reckon 200-300 Watts should do the job. I am using a 400 Watt motor, just so that I have extra power when i need it. I will still run a 9X6 to 10X6 prop and with a cheap 2200mah 30C lipo, I will have a good 12 mins flight time.   Try this Motor which is probably a good replacment for your SC15.   I am using this my motor which is propab;y over powered, but I know the airframe can take it, many speed freaks have fitted a SC32 or even 46 in the Sig Wonder!!   Both options are dirt cheap from Hobby King.   You could try a more expensive motor; a dualsky 15 size or a EFlite power 15 (I think both are slightly overpowered for a 15 size IMHO)
  20. PS Forgot to add, i'm powering mine on a Turnigy C3542 400 watt motor (probably too much power) and a 30C 2200mah 3S lipo.
