  1.  Karma being what it is, I broke my middle phase. Ah well, easily repairable and taught me something. Not sure what yet but..   Maybe to land it where you can see it........................... You forgot to mention you also had some stick time on a scaly, so not a bad day all in all.  Pictures later if the camera man was on the ball.
  2. Posted by ntsmith on 14/08/2009 01:07:51: Thats one of the very reasons I PREFER futaba. I went out so many times with various TX's RX model permutations and allways forgot the bind plug. As they were all electric planes I hardly had any stuff with me apart from the TX and the plane plus lipos ofcourse. A lost flying session or at least a very long drive home was the result. Please dont encourage individual model binding. Futaba's a zillion times better than JR - and I did try it for 18months. I KNOW the one I prefer. That is until you take off with the wrong model in the memory.......................  PS topic was about "bind n fly" models which as far as I am aware are only available for use with Spektrum/JR 2.4 sets unless you count the ones that come with a Tx (e.g. Kyosho minimum)
  3. Brad, flapperons are on a switch on the Dx6i though, so you could set up a fixed aileron deflection up or down, but you can't use it to give neutral, reflex and camber. On my Easy glider I have the ailerons set as spoilerons, i.e. both ailerons up for landing. But if you want to do anything more complex you'll need another Tx I'm afraid.
  4. Posted by Alex Leigh on 12/08/2009 08:13:46: I need another little electric after I've given up with my Graupner Junior "S" (long story). Quite fancy the one Andy bought. Before I give that a go, has anyone tried the Thunder TIger ehawk 1500?      What happened, did the cyano on the motor magnets let go......................
  5. it's only E Flite and Park Zone bind n fly models that work with Spektrum, basically because they are all part of Horizon Hobbies, for instance the Kyosho Minimums only work with their Tx's.   Unless Futaba bring out a Rx model specifically for 3rd party manufacturers I can't see any bind n fly Futaba models as Futaba are independant and don't make model aircraft.
  6. Another E Flite winner by the looks of it. Just the thing for indoor flying.
  7. John from the sound of it, you want spoilerons not flapperons, i.e. both ailerons going up, pretty standard landing mix on a glider. Also you don't say which Tx you are using. Note on the AR500 the second aileron channel is just an internal Y lead in the Rx so no amount of mixing in the Tx will change the behaviour of the second servo, it's just like it is on a Y lead. So you will need to move the servo to channel 5 and then mix that to the aileron and flap channel to get what  you want.  Alternativlly put in a 6 channel Rx (the AR6100 would be fine in an easystar) and then use the preset mixes. I have an Easy Glider on a DX6i with a 6 channel 6200 Rx and setting up spoilerons and aileron differential is very easy.
  8. Posted by Doug Ireland on 20/07/2009 01:54:59: Um, Frank, the DSX9 is 2.4GHz OK, but it was a very blingy 9 channel 35 mhz JR set.
  9. Gaz, try this program www.drivecalc.de pick a motor that has a KV2200, use a 3s battery and then make sure the current is below the max rated current for your motor (18A), probably something in the range of a 4.5 x 4.1
  10. Gaz, I had the same problem with mine when I went to a 3s lipo so bought a couple of prop adaptors and props, when great until one of the motors burnt out................. Just awaiting a brushless upgrade now.
  11. Andy, I lot of pricing is down to market positioning and i think a few comments were put forward about this, vis Model MemoriesRX prices RX rangeProgramming capabilities  Basically Horizon are happy with the number of DX7's they sell at £240 and Ripmax the number of FF7's at £199
  12. Note also that Futaba don't really cater for twin servo elevators until you get to the FF9, might not be an issue but I have seen several posts where people have wanted this on Futaba 6 and 7 channel sets and can only do this with mixing which only has the trim active on one servo. You can do this with a DX6i and have trim active on both servos. Apart from that it's only the prices of the Rx's that splits them, plus all the e-flite goodies (vapour, MCX, new Sukhoi) that come DSM2 complete and the tiny Rx/Servo/ESC board that Spektrum do for the indoor models.
  13. Is it worth messing with, you can get a new 400 7.2v for £6
  14. Posted by Alex Leigh on 29/07/2009 07:51:55: I know Timbo, it's just annoying!  It's a Graupner 345Z on a 9x6. Not sure on the watts but it's definitely jammed. The outer "ring" that spins isn't flush now. This is definitely what's broken now, but I don't know why it gave me so much gyp between building and now. BRC is an option, thanks Oliver, I'll give them a call if I get a minute today.  We measured it at 190w and 25A at WOT, but I'm guessing the w is a bit down on that now..........
  15. Posted by Matthew Lloyd on 26/07/2009 23:16:35: I guess so. I take it I can still Bind existing Rx's with a DSX9 set - even one fitted with a module. Matthew, all Spektrum Rx's will bind with the 2.4 JR DSX9, if you are 100% 2.4 I can't see any advantage in buying a modular system you may as well get the dedicated 2.4 system.
  16. Matthew, it sounds like you are talking yourself into a JR DSX9 2.4 DSM2 set to work with your exisitng recievers................. I think you'll find the Dx6i a bit limited with the Luna, I have Dx6i (which I think is a great Tx for the price) but use my 35mhz Cockpit Sx for my 4 servo wing gliders and planes.
  17. Matthew, this would do your Luna just fine http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=621 not as many channels but very good on gliders 35 not 2.4 though.
  18. James I have a mini blade glider version, they don't hang about, electric version will be heavier and faster still, not what you would call leisurly. What about a Multiplex Cularis.
  19. Posted by Tony Stein on 24/07/2009 20:28:58:  I have to say that piccy proves to be a very convincing argument. The graph I'll need to study before I properly understand what it's telling me. (Is the 35-42 motor the same as the 35-30?) The plane is 20 oz all-up weight so at 80watts per lb that's 100 watts required. If I get what's going on then at a draw of 20 Amps and, on an 11.V  battery that's 222 watts or 120% over what I need?I think I need a smaller prop   .Thanks for the help it's much appreciated. I will get to grips with this eventually I promise. In the meantime I thank my lucky stars that I found this site....   Sorry program didn't list the 35-30, 35-42 is basically same kv but rated for a higher current.  Don't try restricting throttle end point ot 75% some ESC autocalibrate on the end points so you couldn't guarentee you would pull to many amps on an 8 x 6, 8 x 4 seems the way to go.
  20. Could these be good for the new spekky 6400 Rx/servo sets same as in the MCX etc, they run fine on a 1s lipo
  21.   A watt/amp meter is a a very good idea. The motor rpm is governed by the volts and load on the motor and power is basically proportional to the square of the speed, i.e. if you double the rpm on a given prop then it will take 4 times as much power (or twicw the volts and amps) On a 2s and 8 x 6, the motor amps drop to  11A and power be down around 60w, so if you went to a 2s a larger prop might be needed, e.g. a 10 x 7 gets you to 18a and just over 90w.  You can download drivecalc for free and while it is not real replacement for having a wattmeter its a good for getting the starting point. www.drivecalc.de best of all its free and they keep updating the motor, prop and battery database.
