  1. I tried to buy the Airsail Chippy a while ago and could not find one anywhere. If it is possible to register an interest I would love to join the queue. Have flown the full size and, together with the J3 Cub but contrary to the Tiger Moth, it does not disappoint. ( Have stuck a large book down my trousers and put on the flak hat in anticipation!!) Seriously ZK if anything comes of this I am definitely interested. Regards, David Holland
  2. There is a saying in full size aviation that goes " It is better being down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here." smiley face thing! David.
  3. Hi Ken A bit late coming in on this butI have been a model engineer for quite a few years and have never seen ME fasteners available commercially. Just been on the EKP Supplies website and they don't list any ME screws, bolts or nuts. Most of us older model engineers who can't get the hang of this new fangled metric malarky use BA screws, bolts and nuts ( screws have the thread all the way to the head and bolt have a length of plain shank between head and thread) for assemblies and ME threads for steam fittings etc. ME taps and dies are readily available in either 32 or 40 tpi. Give Tracy Tools a try as kc suggests. David Holland
  4. I had the same problem twice. First time Al's Hobbies in MK fitted a new motor (I was convinced it was the electronics because the fault was intermittent) but the second time I investigated myself and found one of the wires to the tail rotor motor fractured. They are very thin single strand copper (like coil winding wire) and not well supported at the motor terminal. I resoldered it and put a blob of hot glue glue (!) on both and have had no problem since. Great little heli. David
  5. Can't remember where I read it, but it was a reputable source, and being all electric I can't speak from experience, but it seems that ATF (auto transmission fluid) is a very good after- run oil. Don't take my word for it unless a noisey, oily person confirms it!! (Wish I knew how to do that smiley, satanic face thing) David
  6. Ah, a faint light dawns. I had missed the point that they are assignable to various functions. Might be useful for flaps, say, but you have sub trim and travel adjust in the set- up menu. Still slightly bemused. Whatever confusion will an upgrade to a DX9 bring? Thank for your help ( nearly said "guys" but another thread gave me cause to pause!) chaps. David
  7. I know letting an old person who flies mode 1 loose with a computer radio is a bit like giving a monkey a machine-gun but can anyone explain to me the use of the two little trim buttons on a DX8, just below the aerial and either side of the "Spektrum"logo. They operate in a vertical sense but don't seem to do anything. And, yes, I have read the manual but that has got me nowhere. I've had this radio about two years now but have only just plucked up courage to display my ignorance. Thanks in advance but please make it simple!
  8. I'm a "btinternet.com" and not having any issues. I use a desktop, laptop and iPad, all with no problems. I don't suppose that helps you much, Avtur, but it might indicate the problem being your end rather than bt's. Does anyone else think the new bt homepage is rubbish, or is it just me.
  9. I have just bought a möbius hd video camera from Webbex. Very small, great picture quality and good mounting options. About £70 and good service from Webbex. Don't know how to attach a link to the website (old bloke is my excuse) but if you google it it's easy to find.
  10. Oooh! Deep joy. Can I be a little contentious and cast a poor unsuspecting moggie among the columbidae and suggest that the Spitfire Mk1X (without clipped wings and increased rudder area) is THE most beautiful machine created by man, followed by the lovely Marchetti SF 260. Car wise, the honours go to the Ferrari 246 Dino and for a steam locomotive it is a toss up between a rebuilt Royal Scot and the Britannia 7P class. I hear the brickbats coming!!
  11. Richard, I am seriously interested in building the Revolver when and if you get round to publishing the drawings. I find the pusher layout much more appealing than the tractor. Is there any technical reason you go with a three blade head? Are two blades feasible? Getting well ahead of myself here, but, being a model engineer and assuming the geometry remains the same, can I machine an alloy rotor head to give the necessary pitch and roll movements? So many questions, so little time!!
  12. Me too! Fabulous. Can't wait for the plans. Lovely job and good skills, Richard
  13. Does the design really specify fully sheeted wings? No full size Jodel/Robin (metal ones excepted) has other than fabric covering from the main spar back. G-BDDF, on which the late, great DB based the model most definitely had ply under the fabric on fuselage, wing and tail plane leading edges. It seems a strange choice to fully sheet the flying surfaces.
  14. This looks very appealing, Richard. I shall look forward to the plan in the July mag!!
  15. I always find it useful, when checking aileron sense, to make sure "the aileron you point the stick at rises". It can be quite confusing trying to visualise aileron operation at a quick glance. Works for me!
  16. PPL(A) with IMC and Night for me and about 1200 hours now. Lucky enough to share a Robin DR500 with a friend, based in Northamptonshire. Full size is even more addictive than models but flying is a lot easier when you are sitting in the aircraft rather than standind on the ground with a tranny in your hand!!
  17. Gentlemen, This is my first post to an RCM&E forum and I am starting badly by not exactly sticking to BEB's strictures but I have just received my first order from "those who shall not be named" after being discouraged by the negative comments that bounce about. I have been flying for donkey's years but have never tried EDF. I eventually succumbed to the lure of the Vampire (the DH one, that is) and placed an order with the UK depot last Tuesday. It arrived yesterday, complete and undamaged. No, I'm not related to Scott, just think that we should see both sided of any argument. David Holland
  18. Just had a bottle of very good Merlot with dinner so feeling a bit bolshie.... not going to vote for any of those 'cos they have all been done to death. Something different next time please!!!!!!
  19. Stop it , now, with the warbirds. We all love spits and mossies and lancs and wimpeys and.............. but, how about an Islander with turbo props cos the nacelles are really pretty or a turbulent or how about a jet provost with edf Too many lovely aeroplanes, not enough years!!
  20. Seems to be a lot of interest in twins now that "motors wot work off the 'lectric light" have eliminated the sphincter puckering tendencies of multi-engined models so how about.... 1       Airspeed Oxford 2       De Havilland Dove 3       Miles Gemini or for single engined.... 1       Robin DR400/500 2       Siai Marchetti SF 260 3       Cessna 152 Bit of a trend there, I know, but we do have warbirds coming out of every orifice!!
