  1. I fitted them to all my planes as a matter of corse....takes all the guess work out i find....i even did a bench test to find out what the excact voltage was as each led came on just so as i know and its written on the front of my tranny case. Comes in handy every now and again. Easily fitted and cost very little for peace of mind.
  2. As my confidence has grown so has my ability to fly in stronger winds. Sometimes i wondered if i'd bitten of more than i could manage but it paid off in the long run as flying in the lighter breezes becomes so much easier. I'd recommend doing several intentionally aborted landing atempts early on in the flight getting gradually closer to touching down to get used to the conditions closer to the ground as they can differ completely to whats up above. Then when its time to come down there won't be any nasty surprises. Now i'm onto low wing a bit of wind is very much appreciated as it really helps slow the thing down. Take lunchtime today for example.... 1st flight in a 5-7mph wind landed first time. 40 mins later at the end of my 2nd flight wind had disappeared completely....4 attempts to get down and only the after i'd backed off the idle on my trim.
  3. I've just bought a standard Iron from the Argos value range for just £3.80!!!!, How do they do it so cheap.? I've tested the soleplate to get the correct temp as per SolarTex instructions and so far so good. Its true that i might not get into the very small nooks n crannys of the model but i'm sure i'll be able to do most of what i need to. Top purchase i reckon. Cheers for the pointers anyway chaps.
  4. Has anyone got any idea what the ideal temp is for the sealing iron when solartexing a model? Edited By Paul Corbett on 15/07/2009 12:32:07
  5. You can buy stick on car wheel type weights (from all the usual internet outlets) which are fine but i would reccomend you pop a bit of silicone sealer or similar glue to the edges just in case over time with vibration they wriggle loose. They start as low as 5g i think and go up from there. I wouldn't worrry so much about your all up weight though...it'll be different in almost every build you do and i'll be surprised if anyone has ever matched the manufacturers figures. There are so many variables that can effect it. Your CoG is important tho. IMO 1.5cm on a trainer isn't going to make that much difference i shouldn't think but the closer you can get it to the ideal the better and if anything slightly fwd is better. It might be a bit of a handfull as it is. Someone once said on here i think its like holding a tiger by its tail, and i can vouch for that description. You;ll know what i mean if you ever leave the ground with CoG too far back. I've experimented with my Boomerang Trainer and its not until you get miles off that problems start occuring. Hope this helps.
  6. While i was flying around at lunch time today i wondered just how far a model could go and still be in contact with the TX assuming no obsticles are in the way. I have flown high and i have flown far before, never so far that i can't see obviously, but you get my drift. A model doing 70mph travels a great distance very quickly.! This also leads me into another question. Is there a minimum distance that another flying club should be from another to avoid the obvious problems? I'm assuming the use of full range radio gear on this one. I think park-fly is self explaining isn't it.
  7. I've got an XT 40 (IC) and its very true they do like to float too much on landing so i've dialed in full UP flaperon which i deploy on touchdown, seems to have done the job a treat....sticks like the proverbial to a blanket now. It is a great plane all round though...i'd imagine the 60 is as good just a little less nimble. I'd buy another tomorrow if anything happened to it.
  8. I've found a supplier of these cracking little planes in Germany and they've got them on special at the moment for what works out to be about £66.The cheapest i've found in the uk is £70! I'm thinking of picking some up to bring back as i'm sure they're the same as the uk ones. They had Green, Red and Blue ones. Simple question really. Would anyone be interested in one if i did i'M ONLY HERE UNTIL TOMORROW AFTERNOON (Friday29th May) SO LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU DO. I live in Northamptonshire so you can either pick up or i could post it to you (not sure how much that would cost but i'd soon find out when i get home). I will be coming back at the end of June but i'm not sure the offer will still be on by then. Cheers
  9. I've got a Irvine 53 in my Boomerang and i'm glad i have....it is a great little engine with heaps of grunt and will be just fine for putting in something bigger when the time comes. The SC52 in my XT 40 is just perfection. I think i will always err on the side of extra power (within reason obviously) where engines are concerned.
  10. I'm getting 12600rpm on the ground and it sounds more comfortable in the air than the 11x5 did so i'll run this for a while then try my 10x8 and see what thats like. Cheers for the pointers chaps.
  11. Been out every lunch time for 2 x 15min flights this week.....my neck's a bit burnt but hey its not that often you get this much back to back good weather. Today was just beautiful. Getting a bit concerned that my tx battery is falling over too quickly though so might order another and stay on the ground until the new one arrives to be safe. Really starting to push my Pulse XT40 around the sky now i've got it working sweetly.  What a lot of fun that plane is. I wonder if it would benifit from flaperons on landing?
  12. Mmmm when i bought it (2nd hand) the guy had a wooden 11x5 fitted which i stil haven't tried but not wanting to break it while i got used to the plane it i fitted the equivelant G-Sonic.....it took off like a shot and screamed its little head off, hence the need to calm it down a bit. I've tried 11x8 and while the performance is still great the sound difference is night n day, much quieter. I think an 11x7 which i'm just balancing up as we speak ready for lunch time will hopefully be the happy medium. I struggled to slow the thing down enough on the x8 so it'll be interesting to see what this one is like. I'll do my static rpm tests while i'm at it if there's time. Cheers Steve.
  13. Errr Super Custom 52A ABC type (2 Stroke).?
  14. I have a Pulse XT40 which i have been flying on a 11x5 prop but from the sound of it its obviously too shallower a pitch so i've lined up some alternatives to try 11x7, 11x8, 10x7, 10x8. I have an optical rpm meter which i'll be using but i don't have the original paperwork for the engine so i don't know what the optimum rpm is for this engine. Using the "Propping up" guide i can work out all the relevant figures, tip speeds etc i get from my tests but an idea of what figure i should be aiming for would be a great help...Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers.
  15. Has that been converted to a tail dragger or has it just got worms??
  16. I've just started flying mine (2 weeks ago + 6 flights) and it goes like a dream,,,,,and a bullit!!!!!!....but at the same time it flys slowly better then my high wing trainer.....the only thing i've found is that it doesn't like to stop flying when it comes to landing and tends to bounce up a bit too much, that said its never nosed over and the u/c is a s strong as an ox....if you can bend it i'd say you've crashed not landed heavily. Maybe i'll get used to that little quirk but it certainly hasn't put me off. Its a peach. I've got a 52 2stroke swinging a 12x5 currently......i have noticed that it will nick the grass if its badly unmown but generally ok. If your strip has longer than normal grass i'd run without the spats but thats about it.....it takes off so quick you won't need to worry about it.Edited By Paul Corbett on 02/04/2009 13:23:41

    F1?

I have to confess that i work for WilliamsF1 down in Grove, so today was a bit of a disappointment  to say the least, Happy with our car performance though...looks promising for this year on what i saw this morning. I thought things were looking up when the weather turned out to be peachy for this afternoon down the strip. I took my trainer and my new Pulse XT40 only to strip one of the bl@#dy nylon screws when i was putting it together so just had a couple of throw-it-about kind of flights on my trainer and called it quits...Wind was bitter when the sun went in.You are right what you say about the HD thing Richard..Its all down to the FOM or Formula One Management i believe(Bernies boys). I really like the new interactive features on the red button too. Nice.
  18. I flew my first low wing tail dragger (Pulse XT40) this week and coming from a Boomerang trainer i was amazed just how quick it was airborn, nearly caught me out too. It has the same 52 size engine as the Boomer but it was like it was launched from a gun.I reckon it was up after about a 10ft accel if that. Biggest difference was the landing though....It just wanted to float and float....it took 3 times around before i got the approach right. And there was me thinking about dialing in some flaperon for landing...NO NEED!! Loving the model though. I think me and it are going to have a lot of fun over this summer.
  19. I gave up my flying for the day as it was "maiden day" for my sons GWS Beaver (xmas presi)...Flew like a dream in the light winds with just a little trimming required and he was solo after 2 flights...even did a few landings but fluffed the take off so he's back on the sim for some more practice. I thought i picked things up quick but struth, he's only 10. All in all a very good first day with no breakages.  I secretly really fancy one myself now as it was very relaxing and everything i needed to fly was in my pocket which as a normal IC flyer is quite a novilty!!.. As the weather is looking great for a couple of weeks i think i could be out in the next day or so to blow cobwebs away. Bring it on!
