  1. Started in the 60 s , so I guess over 50 yrs. First radio was a single channel home built job, next Galloping ghost, then prop hit the market and we never looked back. But I must strss that even though I can fly anything fixed wing, I am still learning, and always will be Garry
  2. Sorry to hear that Shane. Have been flying most types of models with an Orange RX installed and never a glitch in 18 months. Maybe you have a duff one ?? With the price of them, I would be inclined to bin it Garry
  3. My club flys of Langar Airfield, which is now disused. We have a full width runway, about a mile long, and we have use of half of it. Fields on either side, and not an obstical to be seen Garry
  4. Extra 300 and Mini Pulse are the two that I fly on this size lipo Phil, but neither of them are 3D Must be one of the most popular size lipos on the market   Garry
  5. Hi Nigel I use mainly 4s 5000mah lipos flying twice a week throughout the year, and my oldest are coming up 4 yrs old, and they are from the big fish, so not the highest priced ones, but still give me a good 8 mins flight on full bore, and longer if throtle is managed senceably   GarryEdited By Garry Pollard on 17/12/2011 11:44:10
  6. Hi I always use the self adhesive stuff. I put it straight onto the lipo, and it never seems to come off. On bare wood, I put a layer of 5 min epoxy, let it dry, which gives a smooth surface and place the velcro onto this surface. Dont try and get it off, you will fail   A wrap round strap, and job done   Garry
  7. Glad to see your comment Timbo, as has been said before, there is no reason that forums cant co-exist together in harmony., and also as you have rightly said, it is the persons own preference which forum he frequents. Eric lost his wife a very short time ago. This is just info for peeps who didnt know of his loss.   Garry @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. Cou;dnt agree more Niel. If you cant fly in windy conditions take up another hobby. I fly twice a week, and apart from a couple of times it has been raining, I never miss my sessions. I average 8 to 10 flights per session, and fly 6 to 7 ib models, all on electric. Yes, ok I have had a couple of prangs this year, but hasten to add both were in calm conditions. This country is windy, FACT.   Garry
  9. Well done Dean,   Must have missed you at Langar today, as I left at 2.45 pm. Wind conditions were not good, so you did very well. Congrats once again   Garry
  10. Thanks Ken   The last time I spoke to him he was going on holiday to Rhodes. This was poss 3 to 4 weeks ago, so maybe your lottery idea is spot on LOL. Thanks Ken   Garry
  11. Hi Lads   Just after a bit of info about a friend. Has anyone heard anthing about Geoff 1? I know he went on holiday a few weeks back, and since then I have been unable to contact him on Here or on www.modelchat.org.uk Any info would be appreciated   Garry
  12. Hi All   I have aquired a powered glider, but would like to experiance slope soring. Trouble is i live near Grantham in Lincs, and we dont have slopes. Are there any local lads out there who could point me to an area near to Grantham   Thanks Garry
  13. Hi Tom   You can buy tickets at the gate Sunday and address is RAF Barkston Heath. It is on B6403 5 miles north east of Grantham Lincs and post code is NG32 2DQ.   Garry
  14. I would say the best advise you have had is from BEB. Get the BMFA involved, as long as you are affiliated. Also the advise re the noise meter is spot on, but as you rent the field you could be on sticky ground, if you will pardon the pun . Best of luck Stephen, keep me informed .   Garry
  15. Great news. They are superb, and dont expect a big bill, as you will be disapointed LOL   Garry
  16. Well done Dean, glad you joined the mad lot at Langar. Hope our flying times clash sometime in the near future   Garry
  17. As a Spektrum user for the past 4 yrs, using the AR 6200, and a DX 6i and DX7, my advise would be parcel the whole lot up and send straight to Horizen Hobbies. Their turn round rate is fantastic, and if you include a letter giving full details of the fault, it will come back working perfectly. Dont forget that the pilot is responsible for making sure every flight is safe, and with what you have told us, there i s no way I would fly before having it checked by the experts   Garry
  18. I did exactly the same mod as Phil B, on my Pulse 40 and after over 200 flights the U/C has never mooved. I also found that the wheels and spats supplied with the kit did not need to be enlarged. The only time I have had to change the wheels is when they wear out. Without the beefing up, I have seen the U/C ripped out on the first or second landing   Garry
  19. I am a mode 4 flyer. I can fly mode 2 but prefer the mode 4.   The reason is easy. When I learnt to fly, propotional had not been brought out( Im old!!) When it eventually arrive, I purchace one, but at the time I was only flying using 3 channels, rudder, elevator, and throttle. The TX was set up with throttle on left stick. I must point out I am self taught. So for a long time I flew a 3 channel model with throttle on left, and rudder and elevator on right.   I then went to a 4 channel model and without anyone to tell me the aileron went on the spare control. Well I didnt know, did I.   So there is the reason for flying on mode 4. My only worry is that I ran a flying club for 20 yrs and tought dozens of people to fly on this mode. Where are they now. Poss came to their senses and changed mode, who knows?   Garry
  20. Hi   A few days ago I piled in my Speed Air from 200 ft due to losing the Lipo and hatch cover. (MY ERROR) straght into a concrete runway. Bits all over the place!!   Gathered it all up and checked the radio to see if it had been damaged, and it worked fine. However it was shipped to Horizon explaining what had happened, and asking them to check it out.   Today, recieved a brand new 6200 Rx complete with satalite.   An invoice was enclosed stating that my original RX worked ok , but for my peace of mind they were supplying me with a brand new RX   Total cost 0.00 Not even a postage charge   Find me another company that would do that, cos I dont know of one.   Brilliant service Horizon, long may you prosper   Garry
  21. Sorry, maybe didnt explin the "height ". My worry was not the radio link, as I know that is solid to OOS, the worry was the time I had left before losing contact due to flat lipo   GarryEdited By Garry Pollard on 02/07/2011 14:17:48
  22. Thanks for the tips everybody. My main concern was should I get to LVC which I try not to do on my other models, and am high, how long before I loose radio link (Speeky DX7) I do have a watt meter and use it on all setups.   Garry
  23. Hi   I have just aquired a power glider, (my first). My question is how do you calculate the lenght of time the lipo will last. I see the flight as follows ! Motor on, climb to hight 2Switch off motor and glide 3 model looses altitude, so motor on again. How long will lipo last, or is this a "How long is a piece of string " question   What do the experts do   Garry
  24. Chris   130 mm back from top wing leading edge   Garry
  25. Dean Try reading your Personal Message box. There may be something of interest in there. I think I live quite close to you GarryEdited By Garry Pollard on 08/02/2011 20:48:15
