If that is Saint-Gilles-des-Marais then it only has 88 inhabitants and your family will probably need to go into nearby Domfront and seek help in the Marie (Town hall) there which is located in Place Roire.  If he is still in hospital then the first place to ask for help is there, of course.  They probably cannot do much themselves but will be able to explain what to do.

Hi Shaun, sorry to hear about your father-in-law's problems.  You don't say in what part of France he is and this information is useful for locating the social services office best placed to provide help.  There is, of course, a poweful and active state social service in France.  This is a link to the HQ in the capital:  Social Services Paris  This service may be called upon, as well as numerous benevolent organisations.  Your relations should first approach the Town Hall in the area in which your father-in-law lives and see what can be done through them.  If it is a small commune then they may need the help of an interpreter.   Beyond that,  local religious communities will provide help and advice.

    Futaba 2.4 Rx

    Futaba recommend their 2,4Ghz Rx should not be wrapped in foam and that it be fixed on its edge to expose the largest area possible to ventilation.  They further suggest covering a clear canopy with a cloth or something if the model must be left in the sun.  As they say, there is no problem when the aircraft is flying provided some ventilation has been provided. Day-time temperatures where I am are in the thirties (celcius) at this time of the year and I just put the aircraft under a bench in the shade when not in use.  In such conditions it would be folly to leave things in the sun for long periods or, worse still, in the car boot .  The covering wilts and ripples in the heat anyway.  As do most of us.

Really great tests, Timbo.  Thanks very much for all the time and effort you have put into this.  Your results show that the 2.4Ghz system is almost bomb-proof.  Apart from when the voltage is dropped beneath a reasonable amount, there was just that one event of signal loss when you directed the antenna at the Tx, but that, curiosly it seemed did not occur again when you retried it.  On the whole very reassuring results.  In a much simpler, and less effective way I have tried to get my Futaba 2,4Ghz receiver to lose the Tx signal by placing it in a tin box and by placing large vans between the two - all to no effect.  great tests and nice results.  Good stuff.

Thanks very much for that info, Walts and for the link to your rcgroups thread.  Nice build!  I like the the oleo leg details and the neat catches on the cowling hatch, (where did you find those) .     Okay, so now I just have to order the beast from the UK and then gather the bits and pieces together.     No doubt I'll be back then to ask a lot of irritating questions.  Meantime, thanks for your help, Walts.  Hope the thing will fit in my tiny car; may have to cut a hole in the roof or knock out the rear window.

  8. That's good postage from the States.  Who was it by the way?  Pity about Pigs, I bought a prop from them but it was shorter than that and so I paid moderate costs.

  11. The simplest route is to take the plane along to a club and someone there will help you out in short order.  You will also get a chance to evaluate the club.

Not me, of course.

  16. Check that the prop adaptor is really tight.on the motor shaft.  I mean really tight.  Could be that when you speed the motor up the prop begins to slip.

That's very instructive, thanks, Eric.  It's also a trifle confusing -LOL.  It makes me wonder why the best postion for the Tx antenna is not horizontal to the ground so that the beastly doughnut, small though it might be, is pointing a meter or so off the ground.  I suppose like that you'd get the plane into the donought as you tracked it in landing. I have tried all ways that I can think of to get my 2.4Ghz receiver to suffer from the signal blackout in this doughnut, but so far have failed.  I have even, unwillingly flown over myself on occassion and still suffered none of its  effects, so maybe this area of weakened or absent signal is really very very narrow at these frequencies.
