Tim Mackey
having read the latest issue, I was taken by the wire bending tool that Alex uses. I have an alternative type which I picked up at a model show some 20 years ago or so,( picture here )and although it still works OK the pulling action is by way of a steel peg, it tends to leave 'orrible deep score marks in this crummy soft piano wire thats around these days. I note that the one Alex uses has a freerunning "pulley wheel" that does the pulling, and this presumably leaves no such marks.Which model of bender IS this ? and more importantly where do I get one ! Myron Beaumont
Timbo Here's me thinking you had no vices !(bit primitive isn't it for an 'lectrics man ? )Grumpy
Tim Mackey
Ah thats just me metal bashing one Myron, I have 4 others of varying finesse :)
Alan Gorham
AllModel Flight Accessories do a wire bender that uses the free running pulley that Timbo mentioned. I have one of these and it doesn't dig in to the bit of wire you are bending.

Allan Jordan
Hi Timbo, How on earth do you manage to get your bench so tidy? do you have some kind of workshop gnome( not Myron I hope} Regards Allan J..TTFN
Tim Mackey
I am afraid I am cursed with a very tidy mind, and cannot work in clutter - or at least have to clean up the clutter afterwards everytime !I am blessed with a double garage / workshop, and by being organised, can manage to keep 2 X cars, and all my tools /hobby stuff in there as well. Heres a couple more for your delight and delectation.....
Wirebender Maker
I have been supplying This type for many years.
Tim A
I made one from scrap steel similar to the one Paul makes, the secret to forming even coils is to lock the wire so that it doesn't feed in as you are bending the other end. If you don't do this you end up with kinks instead of a nice smooth coil. Paul's is the only one commercially available I have seen that does this, so I don't know how the others can make good springs especially when bending heavier gauges. Oh and Timbo, can I use your workshop I can't find the bench in mine?
Tim Mackey
LOL....I can rent it out on mate's rates.

Olly P
Tim - you'll have to keep a careful check to ensure it isn't double booked! Paul, how much and how do I order? I could do with on of these and then I'll finally get some projects finished. Olly

Tim Mackey
Hi Paul, all we ask is that you make it clear to others that you have a commercial interest - most peeps just include the fact somehow in their username Edited By Tim Mackey on 15/02/2012 15:55:
Wirebender Maker
I have put a short video on youtube to show how easy it is to bend wire under carriages with the Wire Bender.
Tim Mackey
One way to revive a 7 yr old thread - sound would have been helpful
Wirebender Maker
Sound !! What with my broad Norfolk accent, no one would have understood me!
Tony H
Hi Paul, Thanks for my Wirebenders I bought from you a few weeks back they work a treat, the only commerical wirebenders I know of which easily bend 8swg acurately. £35 well spent I think, I didn't realise they were made to order I wondered why there was a few days delay despatching - worth the wait. Oh by the way Tim is right sound would be very useful on your youtube video. Regards Tony H
WolstonFlyer
I have been wondering how the wire benders worked - now I know I think I will have to get one, it looks very easy to do and better than using the vice and a big hammer! Shame there was no sound on the video.
Pete B
I bought one of these last year and although it hasn't had a lot of use so far, I turned up a very decent maingear leg for my VMAR Fournier as a first effort, albeit after some head scratching over the instructions, with no wastage on botched attempts. SO much easier than a vice and club hammer..... Don't be shy though, WM, I'm sure many of your words of wisdom were missed out in the on-screen captions and we'd enjoy hearing your Norfolk brogue..... Not cheap but worth every penny for the results..... pete
