Peter Wood
Big argument, sorry, debate, at the field this afternoon. When the motor and battery have to be some distance apart, should the ESC be closer to the battery or to the motor? Anyone have the definitive answer and reasoning? John Privett
I don't know the reasoning, but the answer I've always seen is that if you have to extend any leads it should be the ones from the ESC to the motor and NOT the ones to the battery. Phil 9
twisting the wires together can reduce induction and RF interference >>
Tim Mackey
Shortest cable possible between the battery and ESC - the battery can help to "dampen out" back emf spikes, which could in some cases damage the input capacitors on the ESC
Garry G
I am building a small vintage style plan and due to space restrictions need to locate the ESC further back from the motor than the existing wires allow, i.e. extending the 3 wires by about a further 6 inches (150mm in new speak) so it sits behind the battery. Is this likely to cause any problems? Garry G
Pete B
None at all, Garry. Make sure the heatsink side of the ESC faces some free space to allow for heat dispersal Pete

Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
No problem Garry...extending the motor wires is just fine.....in one model (a pusher) I have extended the motor/ESC connection by about 15 inches Extending the battery to ESC wires is supposed to be a no-no but I & many others have extended them by a few inches without problems.....
