Worden
Brass Stencil JNL looks pretty close apart from maybe the S?
Danny Fenton
Thanks Worden never heard of that one will go and see if I can find it I spent most of last nights session creating the letters freehand in Illustrator. Annoyingly its the only stencil in that font on the airframe Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
Okay found it Worden, yes its very close but not quite right and would need a few letters altering. It is also not free at $25 so I will continue to work freehand But thank you for looking it is much appreciated
Worden
Quite right, it needs to be 100% to match the rest of the model.
Danny Fenton
Lol if only that were true, maybe 90% Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
Quite difficult to do as i do not have a straight on image of the nomenclature, this is my guess, honest opinion close enough? Martian
ok Danny first glance it looks pretty good but you said honest opinion so here goes:- needs a slightly bigger space between border and top of FIRST and break here needs a lower angle but the font is spot on sorry Danny
Danny Fenton
Thanks martian, no I am happy to get feedback. I am not thrilled with the S but I think its as good Ias i will get it The border gap is easily sorted, however I am not sure I agree with the angle, if you look at the arrow heads they are pointing at the correct letters in the FIRST and AID, could it just be the perspective is throwing it? Cheers Danny
Martian
you could well be right Danny on the perspective I was basing the angle from the break at left on the b to the break on the E which appears to be on the third break up from a line from the B if you see what I mean cheers Martian
Danny Fenton
making the arrow and text for the emergency exit panel has been very trying, wish I was better with Illustrator hopefully the plotter will handle it okay Cheers Danny
Martian
that looks good Danny
Danny Fenton
Unfortunately I underestimated the size of some of these and I am going to need to have some of the smaller ones done as dry rubs as my plotter will cut small characters but NOT this small!, remember the model is only slightly bigger than 1/7th scale. I know Flightline does dry rub, anybody else do them? Cheers Danny
Chris Bott - Moderator
How about making your own Danny? See here They also do water slide decal paper.
Danny Fenton
Thanks Chris I have been meaning to try some of this paper, this looks like a good excuse to do so I don't like decal paper as you always end up with an edge to conceal Cheers Danny
andy watson
I have never bothered looking anywhere other than flightline Danny. He does get very busy, so his lead times can stretch a bit, but Nigel is brilliant. Don't phone him unless you have an hour to kill talking about your model- he is the only person I know that gets as excited about your build as you do yourself! Can't recommend him highly enough. Danny Fenton
Thanks Andy, I know Nigel has a great reputation, trouble is we always want some immediately lol cheers Danny
Martyn K
Hi Danny I thought that I would wake this thread up. Is if finished yet or has the Piper taken over? Martyn
Danny Fenton
Hi Martyn, The Apache took over and now the Bistormer has taken over from that I am in communication with Nigel at Flightline and some of the artwork needs to be redrawn in Illustrator before he can do the dry rubs. Once they are done there is a little more stencilling to be done, the Underside roundels to do and then its on to weathering. So its not quite finished but very nearly. I have promises regarding the Apache that I need to fulfill before i can get back to finishing it. I am hoping that the Hurricane will be flown at Greenacres in the summer Cheers Danny
Martyn K
Thanks Danny I am looking forward to seeing it, completed and flying as well which will be a bonus. There will be a lot of spectators - so don't feel that you will be under any pressure. Martyn
Chris Bott - Moderator
Hi Danny Just forget that this is from daytime TV. There's a couple of minutes towards the end of this programme where a chap seems to be building a couple of full sized copies of your model Go straight to 36 mins and 30 seconds in... Danny Fenton
Thanks Chris, that was magic, Tony and his team have been responsible for many of the Hurricanes about today, including much of UP-W Thanks for showing it, for some reason I thought their premises would be larger.... Danny Fenton
Hi Martyn, I hope so, it should fly this year but I have a couple of things I want to cover in the magazine to do and then its bike clips time Hopefully it will still be around for next years Fun Fly Cheers Danny
