Phil 9
Anybody know anything more about this?
John Privett
There were a few photos and some video posted on another UK forum recently and a very brief outline of the story. I understand the whole story - and presumably more pics - will be appearing in one or more of the mags at some time. No idea which mag(s) though! Any comment from the forum admin on here? Simon Chaddock
Surely the only clever bit was controlling it from another plane flying in formation. Such a large model really shouldn't have any difficulty crossing the channel.

Such a large model really shouldn't have any difficulty crossing the channel. I tend to agree. The red tape was also probably quite a challenge. It's been done before from a boat, and one crossed the Atlantic. For less than £200, it could have been made to make the trip by itself, including take off and landing. Apart from the red tape again. Chris Bott - Moderator
I think maybe flying the model across is the easy bit, but if I try to think what I'd need starting from scratch right now if I wanted to do it it's mind boggling. How do I find a chase plane with a pilot willing to do it and fly at the speed I need, and have my transmitter turned on in his cockpit? What locations? What permission do I even need and who from? Especially from the French side. Can I coordinate all the eprmissions to be on the same day? When can I do it, what's the weather going to be like? I need to get accross there with the model and do I need accommodation the night before? What about takeoff and landing, can I do that from the chase plane or do I need an extra pilot at either end? Do I need any contingencies if the model goes down? I'm sure there's pelnty they came accross that I haven't thought of yet either.
Plummet
He said a few words to the crowd ar Rougham. The gist was that it was the paperwork that was hardest. It seems that the french equivalent of the CAA can be hard to deal with. Plummet
