Wildthing on the Gt Orme

Recommended Posts

Hi Guyssmiley

Snatched a quick flight off the Gt Orme this afternoon between the rain.

The wind was 20 to 25 mph and the lift was solid but I had some trouble making headway with the Wildthing.

I have not seen any advice on ballasting the Wildthing - wheres the best place to fix the lead and how much would I need for say 25mph winds?

hi, for ballast I put some flat lead flashng offcuts ( about an inch) on the CofG underneath on the fus.

But for 25 mph I'd say leave it out, when u get to 36-40 it'll help then.

I think the trick is to trim it and get the c of g at the optimum for the trim settings , then it'll just float out in a 25 mph wind..

Thanks for the advice guys. I also found some interesting comments on an earlier thread

I have decided to leave the WT60 unballasted and buy a WT46. I will make provision for ballast when I put it together - perfect solution - and an excuse to buy another WT!!

thanks again
