David McCulloch
Where can I obtain these , as they are recommended in RCM&E Special this month
David P Williams
Try googling step blocks or step clamps. Proxxon do a set but there are probably cheaper ones out there..... David
Martin Whybrow
I haven't read the mag yet, but assume you're talking about machine tool jacking blocks. Try Chronos Engineering, G&M Tools, or Axminster Tools, they're all model engineering suppliers and should have them.
Scruffmeister
Only ones I could find were the Proxxon set - which at £20 for two of these (and a few other "less useful" bits) seemed a bit expensive. Surely these should be available cheaply somewhere, they're just pieces of aluminium machined into steps! Can anyone shed any more light? Martin Whybrow
Chronos do them for £6.33, look for Packing Blocks (Ref: PB33) here
Scruffmeister
Thanks! I think I must have skimmed over these as didn't recognise the picture in the search results for Chronos.
John Dean
I use ARC Eurotrade for my engineering bits - seem good value.
Doug Ireland
I made mine out of 3/4 MDF cut them out with a bandsaw. They work a treat.
Erfolg
Are these what I know as engineers "parallel bars"? Normally used on milling machines for accurately seting up a piece to be milled. If so I cannot see what use they are to us aeromodellers other than expensive precision bars of steel for weighting things down, If that is what they are being used for, any old lumps of steel will meet our needs. In my case I use Vee blocks, the weight is good, no need for the precision.
Scruffmeister
No, not same as parallel bars. These are the items in question as shown in the RCM&E Autumn Special 2013: Edited By Scruffmeister on 28/10/2013 18:41:
Mogs
I've used "Lego" to fullfill the job that these do.
Erfolg
To be honest and probably showing my ignorance, I do not know why I would want them. If I need to pack things up, I will use almost anything from blocks of wood, bits of old metal. vee blocks. I will now consider Lego, as we have some for the grandkids when they come to terrorise me. But then again Perhaps it is something else they do?
