john picton
Hi All, can anyone tell me how to connect a calculator to a micro switch which operates when the winder handle is turned please John
PatMc
The calculators specified here probably won't be available now but the article explains the principle. I made one years ago using the gearbox of a Megger & a cheap calculator. It worked but because the gear ratio was very high (IIRC 16:1) the calc couldn't keep up so I arranged the micro switch to operate from the input & multipled the result by 16. Of course after a few flights I knew how many winds each model took without the multiplication.

ericrw
Can anyone recommend a mechanical winder, for a rubber powered model ??
Martyn K
How big the motor? SAMS models have a range of lightweight winders suitable for indoor. For outdoor, I use a hand drill with the chuck removed and the shaft drilled to take a piano wire hook Martyn

Peter Christy
For my single-channel models with rubber driven escapements (yes, really!), I use an old hand drill with a "hook" made out of piano wire. The drill has around a 3 to 1 ratio. -- Pete

Mike Etheridge 1
You Single Channel guys should use one of these devices to wind up your rubber escapements. I am not sure where mine went after I converted my Junior 60 to proportional control?
