jimmy bond
Sorry to carry on with this subject on a bandsaw purchase but i hope to get some feedback.I intended to get a Proxxon bandsaw knowing it as a good name ,i already have the smaller circ saw, which can be a bit underpowered, and not cheap.looking at other options i have seen a couple of new models.I do not know though if they are known to anyone here.first off draper have 2 i have seen, one can be had for around £90 the oyher £180,then i see screwfix do a saw by Titam which looks ident to the cheaper draper, gets a lot of good fedd back then at the end half a dozen really poor reviews.then i see a saw by a company called scehppach basato1 which looks like the proxxon but cheaper. The main thing with the titan was poor supplied blades and correct setting up.The reviews in gen said a new blade is needed slightly wider and go a tad longer 56 .5 and alls well but then the later reviwes said a 56.5 blade wont fit but many was using.the more i look the more undecided i get. if anyone as used the draper, titan or scheppach basato 1 any feedback is great. PatMc
Jimmy, is this the Scheppach bandsaw you mean ? If so it's larger & much more powerful than the Proxxon. Never came across it before but if the quality is good it looks better as well as cheaper than the Proxxon. BTW you don't have to get the makers own blades there are plenty of just as good, usually cheaper, alternatives who specialise in making up specific length blades for any make of bandsaw. They also often have a wider choice of teeth styles & TPI. Edited By PatMc on 11/12/2013 10:08:
Flying Flea
Jimmy, I think PatMc has pretty much nailed it there. In my job I show people how to use these small machines and they all have their pros and cons. A lot will come down to how much room you have available to store and use the machine. The little proxxons are small and fairly light and can be put under a bench when not in use, but they are fairly costly. The Sceppach on the other hand is quite a bit larger and heavier and will probably need be to fixed in place on a workbench, but you will be able to cut far bigger material on it, than just modelling material. It will come in very handy for DIY stuff too. At that price it looks to be very good value, for a quality piece of kit. As for blades,if you buy just a couple, they should last you quite a while, usually about 6-10 teeth per inch (TPI) for most woods will give a reasonable finish. Hope this helps, Regards, Kieran. jimmy bond
thats the one Pat,To me it looks the same shape as the Proxxon but i can not see a weight listed for the proxxon.the draper and titan are 17kg,so half the weight.the scheppach i think will be too big for the space i have. Dai Fledermaus
Scheppach, a German company, has a well earned reputation for making quality woodworking machines. I nearly bought one of their planer thicknessers at one time before changing my mind at the last minute and bought a British made Sedgewick machine. If it's within your budget I would go for the Scheppach. I don't think you'll go far wrong.

AFAICS the Proxxon is 7.5Kg, the Scheppach Basa 1 is 28Kg. Apart from size the only advantage the Proxxon seems to have is that it's variable speed. OTOH the Scheppach seems to be better in a number of ways & can be had for about £90 less from Screwfix. There's also a lighter - 18.5Kg, cheaper - £110 Scheppach bandsaw that takes the same size blade as the Basa but I don't think the same quality. cymaz
I managed to purchase a Sealey Bandsaw with sanding wheel - its like another right hand. Blades need changing now and then when they snap. I'm at a loss without it when that happens. This might do the trick for you
Stevo
Hi! Don't be tempted with a 3 wheel bandsaw, go for a 2 wheel, but anything Proxxon is well worth it. I scoured ebay for two months before I got mine, and got an Electra Beckham for £100... it will cut anything I throw at it, nice solid cast iron table.... 150m round trip but really worth it! Go for a smooth table and not one that is ridged in anyway... Blades are from Axminster power tools. Never had a duff one... Oh yes and fit dust extraction
