john stones 1 - Moderator
The price puts you off and I've had tools of them and wing bags and all been great stuff John
Plummet
Well - yes and no. I have not used that exact model of rotary cutter, but I regularly use one to cut fabric. (I make some of my own clothes as well as the odd windsock and wing bag and suchlike.) PROs They can cut a good clean line and it is very quick and easy to use. BUT. They are very sharp, and need care in use. Always retract the blade when not in use. You always need to use a cutting mat. You need to be very careful to care for the cutting edge of the blade. If you roll over anything metallic you will notch the blade and it will perforate instead of cutting. As far as the price is concerned - it does seem cheap compared to other ones I have seen and used. Dylan Reynolds LaserCraft Services
for the price it's probably worth a punt, I may order one, next time I order. I have one of those gyro cutter things that were all the rage a year or so ago, just don't get on with that at all
Tim C
I have what looks like an identical model from ebay, while it will cut film fine, a good old swan morton and rule is far better. What they are brilliant for is cutting Glass Cloth, no more frayed edges
Chris Barlow
Like Dylan say's it's worth a punt at that price. Might order one to see if I can get on with that type of cutter before ordering a better one if needs be.
Fatscoleymo
Hi John, wonder if they do spare blades? I've used wifey's dressmaking rotary cutter - very good for glassfibre cloth, but never tried it on film or Solartex... don't know why. Wifey just told me she paid £11 in a craft shop for it.....will have to look at her allowance... Fats
Luke Lane
The best cutter for film, fabric & paper is the iSlice. You can buy them for about £4 from Lakeland.

Essjay
I know it's quite a bit more expensive, but check out this video of the 'Gyrocut'. I have one, and it makes cutting shapes in covering materials a real doddle. **LINK**

Martin Whybrow
It looks like a copy of the Olafa rotary cutter design; our LMS, when it was still open, used an Olfa OP-1 to cut covering from the roll; it cut really clean lines and he said he'd had it for years and never replaced the blade; sadly, they don't appear to be available in the UK and Olfa weren't terribly helpful in advising me where I could buy one. Essjay
John, you can order the Gyrocut from the Traplet shop on the following link. They're selling for £10.95, and the postage is around £2.80. **LINK**

The ones I have used (see above) have been Ol(a)fa. Have a look in needlework shops or craft shops. If you are lucky enough to live near a Boyes department store then they sell them. Martin Whybrow
I can find Olfa cutters, just not the OP-1 which is a very handy design for cutting film.
Plummet
A quick Google ( other search engines are available.) **LINK** Plummet
Martin Whybrow
That's much larger than the OP-1, but it look similar in principle; presumably the larger diameter blade on this would give more life than the small one in the OP-1.
