Rocker
Had to buy a new EDF for my Durafly Vampire.I have brought the 68mm 5 blade 4000kv 850w motor from Hobbyking ,the standard motor was a 2700kv 5 blade motor.I do not have a great knowledge of electric motors etc..Will I have to upgrade the ESC or will it be alright just to put the new 4000kv motor in and just fly it with the standard ESC .I will be using a 4s 3300 lipo to fly the Vampire.I do not want to blow up anything or destroy anything else on the Vampire Thought I would get some advice before starting up the new EDF
Piers Bowlan
I expect you have one of these Rocker but if not they are pretty essential for checking how much power your electric flight set up is producing and how much current is being drawn. Simon Chaddock
Rocker Going from 2700kV to 4000kV with a similar size motor, using the same battery and a similar fan the current will rise considerably. something like 30%! As Piers has suggested you have to know the limit of your ESC and be able to measure the current so you can stop before it destroys anything. Nigel Dell
Rocker I would not mess about, it will draw more than the 40amp speedo it comes with, I would say around 60amps minimum maybe more so if it were me I would be putting in a 70 - 80amp one to be sure it was going to handle it with ease, I personally like the YEP range from HK they work well, but as they come defaulted for helicopter use (that have a slow spool up I would make sure you get the programming card to go with it. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20693__HobbyKing_YEP_80A_2_6S_SBEC_Brushless_Speed_Controller.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F20698%5F%5FHobbyKing%5FYEP%5FESC%5FProgramming%5FCard.html Hope that helps.
