Ton van Munsteren
Some of you have already started the build of my new design the Sonny 1500, which is now the new freeplan in the RCME April 2016. Iam a little late starting this blog with my build pics but here we go. Lets start with the Sonny as it was a freeflight model from Graupner with a wingspan 711 mm Its a start and there are many pics to follow. jordan hall
Ton, i must say you have tempted me too and ive given in, already ordered some balsa wood and hopefully will begin building shortly. This will be my first ever balsa aircraft and balsa scratchbuild so results may vary buts its all a learning curve that must start somewhere
Ton van Munsteren
Jordan, Thanks for having a go at the Sonny, its not really a difficult model to build and Iam here to answere all your questions if needed. Hoping you will post pics of the build and enjoy your build. Ton
jordan hall
ton would you be able to tell me whats in the shortkit on rbckits as it may work out easier for me to get it to begin with and just add the spruce, electronics and build/cover it
Ton van Munsteren
Hi Jordan, Sorry don't know whats in the shortkit, but it should be all the cnc cut parts. Best is to send rbckits an email and keep in mind that they will be open comming week and after that close for a holiday. Here is a pic from a German forum the pic shows the complete kit, hope this helps you to have an idea of whats in the shortkit Here is the link to the German forum **LINK** Ton
jordan hall
im having a little trouble sourcing 4mm balsa sheets, would 5mm sheets be a suitable replacement for the tail.
Ton van Munsteren
5mm will make the tail section more heavy, so the model will need more lead in the nose to set the CG right.
jordan hall
ok ton thanks thats perfect and one final question before everything is ordered and paid for is what battery was used ? was it a reciever battery or a lipo with a bec and what size ?
Ton van Munsteren
Iam using an nicad reciever battery when Iam correct a 700ma, I can take a pic if you like. Ton

Ton van Munsteren
Here is the pic of the batt , but Iam not sure if it will stay in, because I want to make a towrelease system in the nose. For that I need to switch to a flat batt. Ton
jordan hall
cheers ton and if its any help heres a simple tow release i built before for a foam glider which consists of 2 bits of ply, a bit of wire and a servo which works really well go to 26mins and 26seconds in Jordan
jordan hall
today both the electronics and the balsa landed so the build process has begun, as of now only the tail is cut and shall be glued and covered tomorrow after sanding, loving this balsa stuff at the moment.
