Simon B
I've come to Cornwall with some sloping in mind, but the next few days seem to be pretty light on wind. I've brought a FlyFly Ask 21 with me and not sure what winds would be too weak for it...
David P Williams
I've done the same, but the winds are northerly and I'm down at the southern end of the Lizard - not much use
Simon B
Fortunately the direction looks OK here, I'm just worried about driving 40 minutes for no lift. I guess I could find a field or beach that isn't national trust land and break out some powered flying, but I can do that at home Edited By Simon B on 21/03/2016 23:27:
flight1
The forcast for to day is 6 m/hr you will need a light hlg to get eany joy St agness even though it gets a lot of lift from little wind. to morrow afternoon might be your best chance with 10+ m/hr wind
Simon B
Thanks flight1, I'm going to investigate some powered site possibilities today and i'lol go at natural tomorrow
Steve Houghton 1
That happened to me when I went to Cornwall for a week last April. Then we had very light north easterlies, so Staggies was the only flying venue for me with a wind direction like that, and I don't fly powered either. I did manage to fly the Wildthing but there was only just enough air to keep her airbourne. When I went down to St. Ives I ended up flying my Libelle DLG. SlopeFlyer
As often happens in Cornwall, there is either lots of wind or no wind. From little wind to 30-50mph forecast over the easter weekend. As always look out for walkers over this period, they are everywhere, most slopes having paths below where you fly. Enjoy! Cheers,
cymaz
St Agnes is great. Best site for a W is near the coastguard look out hut. NW is the next car park ( if you could call It that) north of that. SW is a carpark 200 m south of the hut. Try this site Edited By cymaz on 27/03/2016 10:11:
Simon B
I've been debating going today, but I've never flown in anything over 25mph winds. Today looks pretty full on. Any tips? Can't afford to replace my glider this month...
cymaz
25mph....that's a light breeze! Mate and I gave up at Perransands once as it gusted to 50mph. When flying off don't fly too far behind you. The lift will disappear and you will be in for a long walk to find it or apologising to a Sunday walker whilst picking the individual up off the ground. Spend most of the time practicing landing approaches
Simon B
I did it. Nerve racking, but someone else kindly gave me a launch and my tatty Durably P51 ascended to the clouds. I was too scared to try my Ask21 so figured something I'd be willing to lose was safer. The wind was blowing me backwards, but it coped admirably. Came a bit further back than intended but nowhere near other people and still with lift. Only had one flight but it was worth it. Will try it again soon with something less draggy. Top stuff. Simon B
Excellent, thanks James! You were very accommodating. Wish I'd spent longer there. Did you stay for long? Next time I'm down this neck of the woods I will ensure I bring more models for the conditions!
Wookman
Last time I MADE it to Aggy it was 60 mph sw. Great fun.
