Can anyone identify this model, please?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I've come across this early e-glider, but can't give it a name.

90" span 3-piece wing, fibre glass fuselage. Speed 600 motor + 8x4.5 folder.

Looks in good condition - especially the way the wing covering has gradually faded across the span.

I'm going to update the internals, but I'm curious as to hat it is exactly.

(No, it's not an Early Bird/Easy Pigeon etc....)

I had one briefly a few years ago. Unfortunately I'm at an age that I can't remember the name except it was a 'something 2000' or similar. Alex Whittaker gave the same model a favourable mention in one of his articles a while ago.

Mine came s/h with a massive stick ni-cad battery which weighed a ton. I flew it with a lipo which made it a good glider but because it was still old tech brushed motor & SC I had to be careful not to over discharge the battery.

Looks very much like the "Alpha 180" I've got. I bought it off a fellow club member some years ago and its also powered by a geared speed 600.

No idea who the manufacturer is (or was!). I only know the name because of the decal on the wing.....!

Flies very well, though!

P.S. Google indicates it may have been made by Protech.

Does it have a blown plastic fuselage with the tail unit fixed by an inverted "U" studding & couple of nuts ?
It does look to have the Protech style tail but I think a number manufacturers of Egliders used the same basic tail unit on one of a 3 or 4 fuselages that had similar overall dimensions but slightly different canopy shape. Wingspans of these models varied from about 60" with ailerons to around 90" with no ailerons. Sort of mix 'n match between brands.

Pat,

Nope, this has a genuine glass fibre fuselage, although the tail is indeed secured with 2mm studs and nuts.

I've had a couple of the blown-fuselage type of model, but this isn't one of them.

I'm still intrigued, and would just like to be able to name it.
